Business Angels in the Czech Republic

This dissertation thesis concentrates on Venture Capital in the form of Business Angel investments in innovative companies in the Czech Republic. Primarily, the general knowledge of the Business Angel investments among entrepreneurs and students, the utilization rate of angel investments and the terms of cooperation between investors and entrepreneurs were analyzed. The main objective of this work is to design a methodological procedure of optimal cooperation between Business Angels and innovative entrepreneurs that has had a positive impact on the prosperity of all stakeholders. The theoretical framework summarizes the importance of Venture Capital as a source of funding new and innovative technology companies. Moreover, it focuses on realized research concerning angel investment in the USA and Great Britain. The primary research was realized in the form of interviews with investors and entrepreneurs, who had raised capital from Business Angels. As well, was realized five year long research among the students of universities all over the Czech Republic via questionnaire. Based on the analysis of secondary research and results from qualitative and quantitative research, were designed a normative model, descriptive model and methodology of cooperation between Business Angels and entrepreneurs. The proposed models and methodology respect the international practice, and the outputs have been tailored to the Czech environment as well.

Analysis of public debt in the EU focused on the development of the Slovak Republic

The thesis is providing us with evolution of public debt in European Union, focused on situation of the Slovak Republic. It was written in a period, when issue of deficit funding became one of the most frequent topics all over the world. Finding reasons of indebtedness and summarizing cases which should be warning for policy makers is one of the main tasks. Thesis is also describing actions and interventions of European institutions, which resulted to higher debt. Analysis of public debt in Slovak republic is focused on structure of debt in local and central scope in compliance with several criteria. Thesis is evaluating position of Slovak Republic compared with other European countries and analyzing data according to key economic thought to forecast possibilities of future evolution.

Private Equity and Public Stock and Bond Offerings as Business' Financing Arrangements

This thesis inquires into the problems of funding businesses by means of so called alternative financing arrangements, i.e. by Private Equity and Public Stock and Bond Offerings. The first section involves basic ideas and characteristics of the Czech capital market and its structure. The following three sections deal, in sequence, with particular means of financing. They comprise theoretic aspects of particular financing arrangements as well as analysis of advantages and disadvantages to businesses, resulting from their application. Furthermore these sections provide for characteristics of situation in sectors of these particular financing arrangements within the scope of the Czech capital market and detect potentials to improve it.

Budget Analysis of South Moravian Region in the Period 2006-2011

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the impact of the current economic cycle of South Moravian Region in comparison with other regions of the Czech Republic. I describe in the theoretical part the formation and position of the regions within public administration and regional policy and its funding. I analyze in detail the budget classification, the structure and the principle of management regions. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of the state budget and the budgetary designation of taxes. I analyze in detail various components of income and expenditure of South Moravian Region in 2006--2011. In conclusion, based on the budget balance, the regional debt and other economic indicators, I do a comparison of developments and trends in this region with other regions of the Czech Republic.

Economic performance of the EU vis-a-vis the USA

Diploma thesis "Economic performance of the EU vis-à-vis the USA" deals with the issue of EU economic underperformance vis-à-vis the US economic efficiency. This negative trend can be observed since the early 70's. The analysis is based on the assumption that the economic gab between both economies rests on structural grounds. This paper focuses on two areas, which are important for economic growth in the EU. Firstly, it is the economic competition in the Common market. This theme is directly related to the process of European economic integration. The analysis indicates that good market accessibility for competitors stimulates productivity growth in the respective industry. However, firms in the Common market have to face higher barriers to entry and exit than their counterparts in the US. The second field of study deals with research and development in the member states. Present endogenous growth theories assume that technological progress is a crucial factor of long-term economic growth. European Common market should therefore create conditions favourable to business funded R&D so that more and better innovations can be introduced in Europe. Comparsion of goverment`s intervention in the US and Europe during recent economic crisis

This thesis focuses on comparison of the government's interventions of the United States and Europe at the end of 2008, thus in the worst phase of the financial crisis. It particularly focuses on the rescue packages in the US and Europe, that should have brought the calm on the turbulent financial markets. From those packages it chooses the crucial parts, which it describes, and follows their impact on capital markets. The last part addresses the comparison of these interventions both from their content and their impact and quality. It analyses the causes of this crisis from the whole beginning in the 2001, through the times of very low interest rates of federal funds of FED, until the beginning of the subprime mortgage crisis. Next point is description of the mortgage crisis progression, that stroke the interbank markets in the first wave, following with the financial crisis, which is the cause of current economic decay and fall of GDP growth almost in all of the developed economics.

Redistributive aspects of tax reform in 2008

This bachelor thesis is focused on the tax reform of year 2008. The tax reform in 2008 has brought many changes, and my goal is to not only characterize these changes, but also show the effects of this reform on the state budget. The theoretical part is focused on the revenue side of public funds. The income tax and the views on the tax system in the Czech Republic are mainly reported here. In the practical part the tax reform of 2008 is presented in further detail, in particular changes in each type of the taxes. This thesis analyzes the impact of the tax reform on the state budget, the development of revenue in years 2007 and 2008 and their comparison.

Cultural Monuments and their Role of Regional Development

The cultural relics represent an integral part of the tourism that has become a global phenomenon in the recent years. The influence of the the cultural monuments over the region can be examined through the tourism. Every year a large amount of money is spent on the restoration and care of the cultural monuments therefore a part of the thesis deals with the development of the funds provided by the Vysočina Region during 2004 - 2009. The thesis is particularly focused on the current state analysis of the cultural relics situated in the Jihlavsko microregion. The analysis is implemented from the perspective of the town Jihlava citizens and the mayors of selected member municipalities situated in the Jihlavsko microregion. The town Jihlava takes pride in a large number of religious monuments therefore especially a cognitive tourism prevails here. The questionary survey examined the satisfaction of the town Jihlava citizens with the cultural monuments state and the services related to the tourism. The graphic and verbal comments were used by the evaluation of the survey. The thesis also includes the analysis of the strategic document called "The Microregion Jihlavsko Strategy of Development".

Analysis and evaluation of impacts on the independence due to the districts of Prague into separate villages.

The aim of this work is to analyze and evaluate the impacts on the economy in the eventual independence of a size different boroughs of the City of Prague into separate villages in the years 2001-2015. This topic is very timely considering the frequent discussions on financing municipal districts of Prague. Prague is also the economic center of the Czech Republic. Topicality is enhanced by the fact that the model of subsidy relations between Prague and its city districts often changes. In the theoretical part are listed and explained basic terms and definitions relating to the issue. This section deals mainly with the economic theories of the budgetary determining taxes, financing municipalities and boroughs in Prague. They did not omit the legislative requirements of the functioning of municipalities and boroughs of Prague. In the practical part is evaluated development funds that flowed into the budgets of different sized urban areas and that the budgets of such units in a given period of time passed, if those units were part of the capital Prague. Part of this work is part of a proposal for legislative changes that would empower any Prague districts only allow a referendum. Finally, the comparison of the current state and the independence of the aforementioned boroughs of the capital, and in terms of income of the urban areas and in terms of financing certain obligations boroughs based on current legislation.

Motor vehicle taxation in the EU

The aim of this thesis is to describe the motor vehicle taxation in the Member States of the European Union. The thesis is divided into three sub- chapters. The first chapter describes the historical development of the laws of the Member States of the European Union in the field of vehicle taxation. This chapter also describes types of charges, which may be subject to motor vehicles. This chapter ends with the introduction of EURO emission standards and their impact on motor vehicle taxation. The second chapter is devoted to the collection of road tax in the Czech Republic and its beneficiaries, the State Transport Infrastructure Fund. The third chapter discusses the issue of motor vehicle taxation in individual member countries of the European Union, including specific taxes in individual states, their structures and their revenues.
