Poverty and social exclusion: an ethical challenge for the Czech society
KOLÁŘOVÁ, Lucie
The thesis deals with the role of the state and society in their attitudes to poverty and social exclusion. The introductory part aims at characterising the phenomenon of poverty and social exclusion, and deals with the issue of how the society perceives poverty. It focuses on the concept of the culture of poverty, and attention is given to the need of solidarity, social justice and the social state. The following part of my thesis deals with the extent of poverty and social exclusion in the Czech Republic, as well as possibilities of a social safety net in the Czech Republic. It describes particular examples of the manifestation of social exclusion and poverty in the Czech society, especially in the sphere of housing, opportunities in the labour market and falling into destructive debts. It sheds light on the situation of Romanies as the worst affected population group. The current situation in the Czech Republic shows that the attitude of the society to poverty as a personal fault and failure, impedes mutual solidarity, and generates strategies connected with repression that fail to understand the causes of poverty. For this reason, they cannot be adequately efficient. The society should react to, consider and efficiently solve poverty-related problems. Inspiration may be found in Christian ethics and its concept of human dignity.
Criminal activities of juvenile in the region of Znojmo
SVOBODOVÁ, Alice
The issue of juvenile delinquency is one of the key areas on which the attention of criminologists and the entire society is focused. Despite the public debate over this issue, brutality among the youth, extremism and drug addiction are growing. Child crime, and especially that of juveniles, is becoming, to an increasing extent, a socially significant problem over time. The topic of the thesis is juvenile crime in the Znojmo region. The thesis will deal with the development of juvenile delinquency in the Znojmo region and in the Czech Republic in 2005-2009. In the theoretical part, I will deal with crime-producing factors that affect the emergence of juvenile delinquency. I will focus primarily on the influence of family, inheritance, schools, peers and media. Furthermore, I will focus on the types of the crimes that are committed by juvenile offenders. Another chapter is devoted to the methods of repressing juvenile delinquency. At the end of the theoretical part, the crime prevention in Znojmo is discussed. The practical part of the thesis analyzes and evaluates statistical data in order to find out about juvenile crime in the Czech Republic and in the Znojmo region for the period of 2005 - 2009. The data resources used include the following: police statistics from the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, the regional police department in Znojmo, the Czech Statistical Office, and the documentation from the department of social and legal protection of children. To facilitate comparison, the resulting data was converted to the same measurable unit, i.e. the crime index.

Public awareness of drug problems in České Budějovice district
KOZLOVÁ, Lucie
ABSTRACT Addictive drugs are all around us and they have become a part of our lives. The issue of drug abuse is of critical importance, global, and difficult to solve. Typically, drugs are categorized as tolerated or not tolerated by society, and more or less risky. It is vital, therefore, to know the attitude of public to the issue. Lots of drug abuse causes have already been revealed, just like the reasons why some users develop addiction while others do not. In all probability the abuse of drugs or the addiction development cannot be put down to a single background factor. Everything will depend on personality traits of the individual, on his or her environmental conditions, and on specific effects of the drug. Since I take much interest in these issues, I have chosen for my thesis the subject of Public awareness of drug abuse issues in the District of České Budějovice. I investigated what people knew about drug abuse at the District where I live; their opinions of drug abuse; whether they believed that drug abuse deteriorated social position of an individual; whether they believed it boosted the rate of crime; if people were informed about facilities assisting recovery from drug addiction within the District of České Budějovice; and, last but not least, whether they suspected what drugs could come in their way here. The thesis aimed to examine what people knew about the drug abuse issues in the České Budějovice District. This objective has been met. Fifty three percent of respondents were found well informed on the subject, while the remaining 47% lacked the information. The survey was to prove or disprove hypothesis that the public was unaware of organizations providing help to drug addicts - the hypothesis was not confirmed since 51% of respondents were informed about the relevant organizations and 49% were not. Another hypothesis predicted that the public could not tell the illegal drugs from the legal ones - it was not confirmed as the public was found sufficiently informed. The hypotheses expecting the public to believe that drug abuse drives crime and deteriorates the addict's social position were confirmed by the bulk of respondents living in the District of České Budějovice. Ninety nine percent of the respondents believed the drug abuse pushed up the crime rate and 95% were of the opinion that it affected the addict's social position. As follows from the survey, the public in the České Budějovice District was relatively well informed of the drug abuse issues, though the differences encountered between awareness and unawareness of the subject were just minor. I intend to release the thesis as an information source for the general public(in the form of brochures, internet publications or periodicals); moreover, I want to offer the results to organizations engaged in the drug abuse treatment and to students of the University of South Bohemia to serve as training material. The public will find a wealth of important drug-related information in the paper, while the addiction treating organizations will be prompted to fill the gaps still existing in information available to the general public.
Criminality connected with narcotic-psychotropic substances
LEŠTINA, Pavel
Criminality, in general, characterizes a quality, or actually a poor quality of the social environment. The entries connected with drugs present an important part of the national and worldwide statistics. The opinions, which the society form in accordance with this issue, are often influenced by misinterpreted or inadequate information and therefore sometimes confuse the pros and cons. Drugs and criminality walk ``hand in hand{\crqq} through our society and burden all its aspects.he research part of this work does not focus directly on the basal information, which belong to the essential knowledge about drugs, but rather intervenes into areas, which together with the basic information, form compact quota of such resources, that set up prominent range of information linked with drugs.
