Jan Werich's travelogue texts essays and critical reflexion in media

Thesis describes Jan Werich's creation of opinion he wrote during the 50's and 60's of 20th century and that was published as a book or in press. Author concentrates on genre analysis and composition of Werich's texts. First, describes character of the texts and tries to classify them. Then, detailed description of those texts follows. The critical reflexion in media is also included. Thesis presents content of each critique and it compares all of them. The description of Werich's creation and critiques are supported by quotes. In the end of the thesis, all the critiques are compared quantitatively and qualitatively.
A2 - fortnightly cultural magazine and its way for actual topics in the year 2011

The Bachelor thesis "A2 - a fortnightly cultural magazine and its way towards the actual topics in 2011" is trying to comprehensively describe the seventh year of the A2's existence, especially the key values of its gatekeeping. The quantified textual patterns of the magazine are based on quantitative research of the whole year and imply expectations about the specific journalistic genres. Similarly, the proportionality between the two major sections of the cultural magazine - artistic creations and social issues and development - are described alongside with the most frequent contributors and the prerequisites for their work as cultural publicists. The following qualitative research analyzes the issues focused on cultural criticism or artistic profession (specifically issues 3 - The magazines about literature elsewhere, 12 - Popculture monsters, 18 - Cultural journalism and 23 - Profession: artist). The thesis is trying to reveal the key values for choosing the covered topics and how A2 uses the genre of essay, which is often the key part of particular issues. Apart from that, the thesis seeks common features of the coverage of specific artworks in the magazine compared to other Czech media. Paola Mastrocola vs. Contemporary Italian Society. Thematic analysis of author's narrative and essay works.

The topic of this thesis is a thematic analysis of literary works of contemporary Italian writer Paola Mastrocola. The introduction is a short introduction of the author (her biographical and bibliographical data). After that there is a research of the most important topics that are shown the most in the Mastrocola's works (both prose and essays). The following section focuses on the artist's work with exaggeration, the use of irony or humor and comic elements, the difference between direct and indirect criticism. The conclusion summarizes the thematic analysis and the main common attributes of Paola Mastrocola's production. Finally, there is a sketched picture of contemporary Italian society, which the reader gains from her works. Argirópolis - aspects of essay and utopy

The purpose of this work is an interpretation of the essay Argirópolis written by Argentine author Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. This work aims to determine the aspects of the essay and the utopia in Sarmiento΄s work; the interpretation, i. e. reading of the text in wider context, integrates Argirópolis into the contexts of the essay and the utopia in order for the present work to transcend the writing΄s historical ambit and portray the timelessness of Sarmiento΄s ideas. The first part of this work examines the essayistic genre, describes its genesis and sources in Europe and Latin America. This section accentuates the singularity of the Latin American essayistic tradition and presents the basic characterization of the form of essay. The analysis of essayistic aspects of Sarmiento΄s book is based on characteristic attributes of the essay. The second part of the work is focused on the utopia. In the context of the utopia, this work attempts to elucidate why Sarmiento preferred the genre of essay to the novelistic genre, while creating a book containing utopian aspects. The last part of the present work is focused on the peculiarity of the Latin American utopian thinking and includes the analysis of the aspects of the utopia in Argirópolis.
The Topic of Human Identity in Václav Havel's Work

In the first part of the text is a short overview of historical events and changes over the society inside of the normalization Czechoslovakia. It means especially establishing of the Charta 77 and VONS as the most important organizations in battle for human rights and freedom during this period. It was also described a psychology of communism whose consequences within national identity have been way too serious because they intervene in the present. Václav Havel was one of the main representatives of Czechoslovakian dissent and his plays were featuring the problem of human identity in this painful period. An objective of this work was to find a connection between problems of human identity loss inside the real normalization society and inside of Václav Havel's works. A considerable part of this text was dedicated to analysis of his special method of writing. His plays, essays and correspondence have been compared. The play Largo desolato (1984) was selected for a detailed interpretation and for the finally comparation with the texts of another Czech dissidents (Kantůrková, Kohout, Vaculík). A search for the Mexican identity in the essays of Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes

The work focuses on the specifics of the Mexican culture in the essays of Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes. It considers the need of self-expression and self-delimitation in the national and the Latin-American level. It makes connection to the previous essays on the Mexican culture by Alfonso Reyes and Samuel Ramos and other essayists. It characterizes the approach to the Mexican history and its historical specific moments, to its partial components and an overall view. It observes the style of the essays and the particular elements, which the authors observe in the Mexican culture, and compares the essays from the historical point of view and from the personal view of the authors.
Political Trends in Contemporary Austrian Literature: An Analysis of Essays by Robert Menasse

This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of critical essay writing in the context of contemporary Austrian literature as exemplified by the author Robert Menasse. The introductory chapter presents Robert Menasse's life and work. The following chapter deals with Austria's interpretation of, and its struggle to come to terms with, its part in the complicated history of the last century as well as how this is reflected in post-war Austrian literature. The focus of the chapter is the issue of national identity - the development and re- definition of the proposition of Austria as the "first victim" of Nazi Germany - and its reflection in Austrian post-war literature. The key element of the thesis is an analysis of the essay collections, The country without qualities and Explain Austria to me. Through critical analysis of a wide range of topics in his essays - social partnership, the Austrian Independence Treaty, neutrality etc., Menasse presents a comprehensive picture of Austria with all its contradictions.
Luigi Pirandello: humor in his novel Il Fu Mattia Pascal

This thesis deals with an italian writer Luigi Pirandello and with one of his most famous novel: Il fu Mattia Pascal. The main aim is to find the examples of Pirandellos humour in this novel and to prove, that the novel is rightly called one of his first humour compositions. At the beginning of the thesis I introduce the writer and his works generally. Than I focus on his essay LUmorismo, which is important for analysis of the novel. In this essay Pirandello summarized the concept of his conception of humour. On the basis of the essay I analyse the novel.
