Michailidis, Dimitrios ; Hurník, Jaromír (advisor) ; Dudáková, Tereza (referee)
This thesis focuses on analysis of current problems of so called "South wing countries" of EMU and Ireland (countries which are being called "PIIGS") from the theory of optimum currency area point of view. It uses the static and dynamic version of the theory as a framework for analyzing the problems of internal and external imbalance within those countries and mainly the connection between current accounts deficits, high level of private and public debts, loss of competitiveness in international trade and high percent of unemployment. The thesis comes with a conclusion that the main factors behind the crisis were inflation and inflation expectations which then through different inflation differentials created asymmetric shocks in monetary policy. This inflation differential phenomenon is described in Walters critique and with other theories creates the basis of analytical part. In the appendix it assesses the readiness of Czech Republic for accepting the euro, based on the analysis made in this thesis.

Yugoslav Experiment as an Inspiration for Reform Process in Czechoslovakia
Uxa, Šimon ; Tejchman, Miroslav (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
The paper Utilisation of the Yugoslav experiment as an inspiration for the Czechoslovak reforms in the period of the Prague Spring deals with a comparison between the fundamental elements of the Yugoslav self-management model, which started to develop in the Balkan country from the end of the 1940s, and the prevailing visions and targets of the Czechoslovak reform process of the second half of the 1960s. The economic system of the Tito Yugoslavia represented, in fact, the only alternative to the directive Soviet model which was copied from the Soviet Union by other countries of the East Block. It is mainly for this reason why it is highly possible that the Czechoslovak experts looked for an inspiration in the already working Yugoslav system whose strong and weak points could already be seen in practice. For the purpose of this comparison, we have chosen five main backbones of both economic systems, as follows: planning, position of enterprises, price system, foreign trade and private enterprise. The selection of the phenomena is conditioned by their existence itself, and mainly by their significant importance for both the Yugoslav experiment and the reforms of the Prague Spring. Keywords: Yugoslavia, self-governing socialism, Czechoslovakia, reform process, 1960s, planning, price systém, position of...

Vojáčková, Lenka ; Blažek, Jiří (advisor) ; Rumpel, Petr (referee)
The importance of innovation for competitiveness and economic development forms an important topic in current economic geography and related fields. At present, many authors are of the opinion that diverse networks of relations, connecting sources of competitiveness at different spatial levels are vital to a firm's competitiveness. With this thesis I hope to contribute to the understanding of the geography of relations crucial for the innovation and competitiveness of SMEs. I focus on Czech producers of outdoor equipment, which constitute a young, progressive and less-studied sector. I am especially interested in the location of strategic knowledge and the importance of various types of closeness in accessing such knowledge. In the Czech outdoor industry, a-spatial forms of proximity have greater significance. In contrast to international trade fairs, firms do not consider regional sources of competitiveness relevant. National and international social networks are important as well. The interconnection of formal and informal relations is very common in the outdoor industry as a significant number of entrepreneurs are members of the mountaineering or climbing community themselves. About 50% of these enterprises have moved their production to East Asia, where they are able to find cheaper labour as well as...
