Recognition of 3D objects with uniform surface reflectance
Žemlička, Jakub ; Svoboda, Tomáš (referee) ; Urban, Martin (advisor)
A new approach based on the edge examination has been developed for the detection of polygonal structures as an alternative to MSERs and Harris points. The recognition of objects with a uniform surface was the initial motivation. The detected polygonal structures can be used as supplementary features for the nonuniform object recognition as well. Finally, the method has been tested on the real application of the viewpoint invariant car license plate detection. The main contribution of our approach is the ability to detect polygons regardless to their size, number of vertices and orientation. The polynomial time complexity for low polygon degrees allows our method the real-time performance. Moreover, the searching algorithm can be modified to find more types of polygons at a time very easily.

Questions of anesthesia and perioperative care from patients view
Hrušková, Veronika ; Bartůněk, Petr (advisor) ; Valenta, Jiří (referee)
The main purpose of my graduation thesis was find out how informed the patients are in choosing types of anesthesia, its range and restriction. Than I observed an influence of a general nurse on patient's informedness on anesthesia. Main principle of my thesis is an empiric part, where I was caried out a quantative research. Here I bring a result which I obtained from a group of patients of two Prague hospitals. The informedness of patients and their point of view on influence of nurse turned out to be on quite good level there.

Lurcher mutant mice represent a model of olivocerebellar degeneration. They are heterozygots carrying a mutation in the glutamate receptor 52-subunit gene. The receptor malfunction causes excitotoxic apoptosis of Purkinje cells, extinction of which leads to secondary degeneration of cerebellar granule cells and inferior olive neurons. Lurcher mutants suffer from ataxia and deterioration of spatial learning and orientation ability. The aim of the work was to assess the effect of embryonic cerebellar tissue transplantation and enforced physical activity as well as the effect of their combination on spatial orientation ability in Lurcher mutant mice and to observe cerebellar graft survival in adult and young Lurcher and adult wild type mice. For the graft survival analysis adult wild type mice and young and adult Lurcher B6CBA mice were used. To study the effect of the transplantation and enforced activity on spatial orientation adult and young Lurchers of the same strain were used. The graft obtained from mouse embryos without the Lurcher mutation was applied into the cerebellar area of the host as solid pieces. Control mice were treated only with vehicle. Enforced activity was represented with repeated rotarod training. Spatial orientation was tested in the Morris maze 9 weeks after the surgery. Histological...

A person with hearing impairment in the role of a patient
Pisingerová, Dana ; Strnadová, Věra (advisor) ; Dršata, Jakub (referee) ; Herdová, Stanislava (referee)
Title: A person with hearing impairment as a patient The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis introduces basic notions related to the acousticequilibrium apparatus, characterizes hearing diagnostics, describes types and levels of hearing impediments, explains communication means of people with hearing impairments, presents assistive devices for them, elucidates personality of these people and outlines care of patients with hearing impairment in hospitals. The empirical part is based on a questionnaire investigation among hearing impaired persons of age over 18 years old. It is aimed at mapping of type and level of their hearing loss, communication means used in daily life, at the general practitioner and in hospitals. The questionnaire examines if the people with hearing impairments understand written messages or need an interpreter and what experience they have with hospital stays. The questionnaire for medical workers with high school education or university degree traces their experience with nursing of hearing disabled, if they are aware of interpreting service possibilities for these patients, how they perceive communication with people with hearing impairments, and if the nurses welcome new information on this area. The thesis concludes with a comparison of subjective perception of the...

Marketing of a Nonprofit Project – Ladronkafest
Niklová, Magdalena ; Mikeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vocel, Marek (referee)
The main topic of this bachelor thesis is the Marketing of a Nonprofit Project -- Ladronkafest. It focuses on the main characteristics of the nonprofit market, the differences between commercial and noncommercial markets, the entities operating in nonprofit business, main issues, problems and obstacles the marketing managers need to face. The main goal is to research marketing theories to learn and understand the tools the marketing and commercial communications offer and to apply them to a real project. The field research provides a comprehensive picture of the applied marketing and communication strategies in case of a concrete project, Ladronkafest, a leisure time festival, sport and cultural event. It describes the instruments employed and evaluates their effects. It also reviews the space given to nonprofit organizations participating on the project for their own promotion and concentrates on the benefits and consequences of the relationships with sponsors and other partnerships of this kind, such as partnership with media and suppliers.

Genetic structure of local domestic breeds
Neradilová, Silvie ; Baranyiová, Eva (advisor)
A switch from hunting to beginnings of farming and agriculture was a crucial step for humans and for developing civilization. This period was suitable for domestication processes. Dogs were the first domesticated animals at all. Their breeding was connected with settlement and cattle protection and they were used as shepherd and hunting dogs. In some cultures they are even used as food source. Recent trends lead to breeding of new breeds and division of original gene pool into smaller closed groups which lead to an increase of homozygosity and to display recessively inherited diseases. These effects are mostly visible in small local breeds that have a small population size. Global protection of genetic diversity in cattle, poultry and pigs was already addressed in many studies, probably because of the high economic value of these animals. Impact of domesticated carnivores to humans is comparable and due to the growing market in veterinary services it is needed to protect sufficient genetic variability of various unique races. The aim of this work is to compare selected local breeds of dogs from different regions of origin, to evaluate their overall genetic diversity, to determine the occurrence of candidate types of diseases and to compare the frequency of these diseases in selected breeds. Main output is to recommend appropriate methods to protect the gene pool of these unique races. Central European breed (e.g. Český Fousek), subtropical breed (e.g. Sarplaninec), tropical continental breed (eg. Basenji), tropical island breed (e.g. The New Guinea Singing Dog) will be selected. The material will be collected at exhibitions and in cooperation with local farmers. The samples will be processed by classical methods of population genetics in the laboratory of molecular genetics FTZ ČZU.

The study of molecular and biochemical bases of cytochrome c oxidase deficiency
Veselá, Kateřina ; Zeman, Jiří (advisor) ; Farghali, Hassan (referee) ; Drahota, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis has been worked out in The laboratory for study of mitochondrial disorders (Department of Pediatrics, 1st faculty of Medicine, Charles Univezity in Praha), which serves as the diagnostic center for patients from Czech and Slovak Republics. During the last years, more than 40 children with isolated COX deficiency were diagnosed in our lab. But molecular background except 12 patients with mutations in SURF1 gene was remaining unknown. Due to the lack of adequate treatment for these patients, the genetic counseling and the possibility of prenatal diagnostics have high importance for the families. The possible dual origin of the defect with different hereditary aspects makes the genetic counseling in the affected families complicated and prenatal diagnostics based only on biochemical analyses very problematical if even possible. This work had been arisen basically from the necessity to find the molecular background of isolated COX deficiency in our patients. In addition of simple characterization of molecular background and optimalization of methods for routine diagnostics, we were able to study the impact of several mutations in nuclear genes for COX assembly factors on the biochemical, structural and histochemical level in affected tissues.

Diabetes Mellitus type I. in childhood: quality of life study
Bendová, Markéta ; Mareš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vlčková, Naděžda (referee) ; Gayer, Jan (referee)
The thesis is devoted to the diabetes mellitus type I child patients' quality of life. The first theoretical part deals with the quality of child's life as such. The influence of a chronic disease on a quality of life is discussed in this part. In a chronic disease, of which diabetes is an excellent example, a social support is of essential importance. The second theoretical part depicts the nature of diabetes mellitus type I, its treatment and special regime of patient's daily life. The practical part of the thesis explores the quality of life of diabetic children using a Czech version of formerly English questionnaire. A survey of "Benefit of the disease from the child's point of view" has also been made.
