Czech-Taiwanese Cultural Standards in Business and Study Environment

The aim of this thesis was to examine the Czech-Taiwanese cultural standards in business and study environment from the perspective of Czech students and businessmen. The first chapter deals with theoretical bases of cultural standards including explanations of key concepts. The second part deals with the development of Taiwan focusing on the major historical milestones. There is also economy, demography, political and social system, religion, education system in Taiwan and Czech-Taiwanese relations mentioned. The research of cultural standards using method known as critical incidents realized on the basis of in-depth interviews as following. Finally there are recommendations for Czech students planning to study in Taiwan and Czech businessman starting to cooperate with Taiwanese.
Italian cultural standards from Czech and Slovak perspective and their comparison

The aim of this thesis is to identify and more closely analyse Italian cultural standards, specifically from the perspective of Czechs and Slovaks, who came to a closer and more extended contact with the Italian culture. Identification of these standards was based on in-depth personal interviews and the theoretical part of this thesis. This part is focused on terms such as culture, intercultural communication, culture shock, cultural dimensions and standards. The practical part of this work is dedicated to the research itself and its evaluation as well as Italy per se, its history, culture, economy or demography. This work can also serve anyone in closer personal of professional contact with this culture.
Comparison of Czech-American and American-Czech cultural standards in study environment

Nowadays, exchange programs are becoming increasingly popular among students all over the world. Thanks to high-quality education, the United States are much desired destination, the Czech Republic attracts Americans with its great location in the heart of Europe and rich history. Cultural values in American society are however in many respects way different from the ones we share in Czech environment. Therefore cultural shock can appear when a student decides to move to another country in order to study there. Understanding cultural differences is essential for successful interaction with local individuals. The main topic of this thesis is the concept of cultural standards defined by Alexander Thomas, applied on university study environment in the Czech Republic and the USA. The aim was to identify Czech-American cultural standards in the study environment from the perspective of Czech university students who studied in the US at least for one semester and US-Czech cultural standards from the perspective of students from the USA. Identified standards were then compared with theoretical conclusions from research of cultural dimensions done by Fons Trompenaars and Geert Hofstede. At the end, recommendations are written for students of both nationalities, which should help them to integrate into foreign environment and eliminate potential culture shock.
Czech-Mexican and Mexican-Czech cultural standards in the study environment

The main objective of the thesis is to define a Czech-Mexican and Mexican-Czech cultural standards focused on students. The findings are compared with the theory of cultural standards by Ivan Nový. Identification of cultural standards is studied on the basis of the cultural standards method of Alexander Thomas based on an analysis of recurring conflict situations. The data collection was carried out through qualitative interviews with Czech having experience studying in Mexico and Mexican who studied in the Czech Republic. The research aims to analyse the differences in the approach to the time, the perception of authorities and difference in the meaning of education of Mexicans and Czechs. In the end, research findings provide recommendations for Czechs planning to study in Mexico as well as for Mexicans who wish to study in the Czech Republic.
Czech-Canadian and Canadian-Czech cultural standards from the exchange student's perspective

The aim of the thesis is to identify and evaluate Czech cultural standards from the perspective of Canadian exchange students and Canadian cultural standards from the perspective of Czech exchange students, using the method of cultural standards, which is based on qualitative research through in-depth interviews form. Individual goals of the thesis include comparison of the results with theoretical research and analysis of historical and socio-economic impacts on Canadian culture. In conclusion, the author proposes recommendations for the Czechs and especially the future Czech students who plan to study in Canada.
Vietnamese cultural standards and their impact on the life of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic

The dissertation focuses on Vietnamese culture from the perspective of the Hofstede´s model of cultural dimensions and also describes its development and the factors that shaped it. Emphasis is laid on Vietnamese business etiquette, which includes previously discovered evidence of a Vietnamese way of thinking and acting. Attention is also paid to the characteristics of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic, the static data related to this minority and evaluation of its integration. The goal of the research is to reveal the cultural differences between Vietnamese and Czech society and describe the influence of the Czech environment on original cultural values and habits of members of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic.
Czech-Indian and Indian-Czech cultural standards in the workplace

Nowadays, most of the countries in the world are getting more and more dependent on each other, both politically and economically. Along with that, cultural clash comes inevitably influencing are private lives and working environment. Multinational companies get the opportunity of using the potential of diverse cultural environment which is challenging the managers, and other employees, to increase their competencies. The goal of this thesis is to identify the Indian cultural standards from the Czech point of view and the Czech ones from the Indian point of view. The theory of the thesis is based on cultural models by Geert Hofstede and Fons Trompenaars. The cultural standards are being identified by using the method of critical incidents where the selected respondents are being interviewed. The thesis analyses at which aspects the two examined cultures differ the most and how it influences the working environment and performance. The research results are compared to other theoretical models and the thesis provides recommendations on how to work with the identified standards in order to make the Indian-Czech cooperation as efficient as possible.
Česko-skotské kulturní standardy v pracovním prostředí

This diploma thesis is focused on Czech-Scottish cultural standards at work environment. The main aim is to define Scottish cultural standards at work environment from the Czech point of view and to compare them with the theory. The thesis begins with the definition of culture, cultural dimensions introduced by G. Hofstede, F. Trompenaars and E. T. Hall and cultural standards by A. Thomas. It continues to the description of Scotland with its geography, history, language, economic situation and various systems in the society, such as the legal system, educational system, health care system, a role of the family and religion. Further, Scottish national identity, key values and traditions are identified and there are added some information about work in Scotland. The thesis then leads us onwards to the determination of eight cultural standards at work environment and six cultural standards connected with the daily life in Scotland based on the qualitative research. The standards concerning work environment are further compared with the theory. At the end of the thesis, there are provided some recommendations for Czechs who are going to work with Scots.

The thesis describes the theory of culture, national culture, prejudice, our perception of other cultures and measurement of cultural differences through cultural dimensions. The work focuses mainly on cultural standards method. There are detected the czech-russian cultural standards and in the theses is provided comparison of these standards with the prejudices of the Czechs against the Russians. The main objective of this work was to develop recommendations for Czech students going for studyies to Russia.
Intercultural communication CR and USA

The main goal of this master's thesis "Intercultural communication CR and USA" is to explore intercultural differences between Czechs and Americans, discover points that may cause conflicts between them and identify American cultural standards according to Czech people. Diploma thesis consist of three parts. First part is dedicated to theoretical concepts and technical terms, which helps to understand processes of intercultural communication. In methodological part are described used methods of research and characterized group of respondents. Last part shows results of research, where explored conflicts are and identified American cultural standards. Thesis include recommendations, which can be useful for Czech people, who plan for different reasons communicate with Americans.
