Inventure of the City Center ? Brno – Veveří – Žerotínovo náměstí
Holá, Martina ; Chládek, Pavel (referee) ; Hybská, Bohumila (advisor)
The main subject of the thesis is a revision of current area framing northwest part of Žerotín Square, that nowadays consists of so called White house (center for children health care and a seat of a medical school). The design is based on theoretical situation concerning the removal of White house and therefore it uses the newly existing place as a subject for new architectural solution. The solution emphasizes the completion of current block of buildings with large courtyard and corner between Žerotín Square and Veveří street, which is very important for traffic. The thesis is focusing on finding the right form, scale and functional content which would reflect the importance of the location, especially focusing on the Brno’s ring road that goes directly to Denisovy sady and accessibility of this city’s part. It also respects the design of the back side of the Red Church. The design uses the newly existing place as a location for new apartment building that reflects the scale of similar buildings in Marešov and other nearby streets and it also proposes administration building as an architectural solution for this location, which would be used as a seat for both municipal and national institutions.

New South District and its Connection to Svratka
Leitmannová, Barbora ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
The Master‘s thesis deals with the processing of the architectural study of the city block in the planned new South Quarter near the Svratka River. The project builds on a pre-diploma project whose aim was to create a territorial urban study for part of this neighbourhood. It was a section between the New Railway Station, Opuštěná Street and the existing Zvonařka Bus Station following the river embankment. The subject of the master‘s thesis is a block from this newly designed urban structure, situated in very close proximity to the river. he project focuses on the block as a whole. It conceptually solves the links between newly designed buildings, individual operations, and functions. It deals with the relationship between streets, river and buildings. Great attention is paid to the maximum use of greenery in the form of extensive and intensive roofs, internal blocks, private gardens in the inner block, as well as private front gardens. The concept seeks to provide a wide range of options and differences. This creates a closed city block that is open and responding to the river with its shape, that consists of free parts. The first / majority are the street lining. It is mostly 5-storey. Corner buildings are raised by one floor, allowing roof intensive gardens to be created. It includes a diverse range of residential units overlooking the river. Housing prevails here. On the ground floor there are a few commercial units and work-and-live. The work-and-live area also includes a private front yard on the street and private raised gardens in the interior. The second part consists of two objects extended over the pedestrian shopping promenade. One of the objects was subject of my detailed architectural study. There are the most luxurious apartments, ground floor showroom and concept store. The third part consists of a lowered 2-storey embankment building, which by its height provides the rest of the block with a beautiful, unimpeded view of the river. It covers the
TRANSFORMATION OF BRONX IN BRNO
Najvarová, Lucie ; Karasová, Miroslava (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The strategy reacts to social exclusion of inhabitants of the Cejl district. It supports employment and intends to build a dynamic public space, that is missing in the area. Social urbanism focuses on the interaction of inhabitants between each other and with the spaces, and creates conditions for new workplaces. The massive broken block gets the order. The park defines a system for future development and opens up new possibilities of usage. Thanks to its low cost construction, the park can work immediately. The order created by the park allows the future objects to emerge freely and spontaneously. The design is not definitive, but it works in every phase or combination.

The diploma thesis related to rehabilitation of the historical inside and adjacent neighborhood Kyjov deals with the analysis of the actual state of the city, the evaluation of its problems and potential and the subsequent design of the urbanistic, transport and functional solution. The goal of the thesis is to create better life conditions and thus to attract more new inhabitants to the city. Building new apartment buildings, leisure centers and coworking centers could help to achieve the goal. Designing of new public spaces, which offer plenty of meeting and relaxing places makes the life more quality. NEW ON THE „OLD“ – Brno, Bratislavská - Stará Corner
Janíček, Vladan ; Sochor, Jan (referee) ; Františák, Luboš (advisor)
NEW FOR OLD project addresses the corner of two streets of Brno and Bratislava old. According to the assignment, there should be designed multi-functional building with 60 percent of the residential areas and 40 percent of other functions. In my case, it is only in residential and commercial functions. The house has two floors garage, two floors of commercial stalls and up above them in the form of small solitary building performs the function of housing. Materials of construction are mutually traced from protruding mass at the flush passage to a detached house on the northern border. The whole building is to some extent a paraphrase of the concept of yin-yang.
Cultural Center Brno
Slunečková, Magdaléna ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor) ; Berková, Petra (advisor)
The work deals with a design of Culture centre in Brno located on the gap site in front of park Obilní trh on Údolní street. An urban design concept keeps all of existing buildings that are currently in use and completes a frontage line of surrounding historic buildings. Broader entrance area is created by a cantilevered structure. Main point of the design is a courtyard, or a big atrium with symetrically curved shape, allowing daylighting and interconnection of inner spaces. Architectural design is given by a concept of the cultural center being a „sprouted grain“, or a place for talent display and collective evolution. Hallway, passageway, corridors and foyer are placed around a courtyard, space dynamics is itensified with a circular staircase. The Building of the Cultural center is composed of two parts: anterior one (northern part) with a courtyard and posterior one with bigger multipurpose hall and its support area (southern part), set in a sloping terrain. Anterior part consists of several rooms of versatile use (smaller hall, practice rooms, clubrooms) and studios that can be linked together to create an exhibition area, plus staff, technical and sanitary facilities. On street level, there are entrances to commercial spaces and a tea-room with a bookstore. A street-facing facade (northern one) is designed as a curtain wall, glazed in central part with circular staircase and thin marble pannels cladding on sides. As for the courtyard, a structural facade with glazing in combination with marble panelling is used.
NEW ON THE „OLD“ – Brno, Bratislavská - Stará Corner
Feňo, Radomír ; Mutina, Petr (referee) ; Jura, Pavel (advisor)
The designed site is situated in cadastral area of Brno Zábrdovice. The land is located in an opened housing estate with two plain gables and the parcel now serves as a parking site. A primary school and a grammar school is located nearby. Opposite the parcel there is a children’s theatre called Radost. In Zábrdovice there is a lack of public sites and municipal parterre. Majority of buildings has residential function and shops, administrative offices and services are missing. The building resolves the situation by adding street line and closing the block with broke through corner, which creates a space for a garden in the inner area and for a square in front of the theatre. The building in Stará street is designed in harmony with the original style of the street. Profile of the street reflects the height of the ledges on the opposite side’s buildings. To the square, contrarily, the two large building are directed and together with the theatre they create quite a lot of space. In the inner area a long and low courtyard balcony house is situated. The edifice creates three areas each with different level of privacy and also with different function. A public building with offices, ateliers and a café, while majority of the flats are oriented to the inner area and home for elderly people to a peaceful garden.
Kopřivnice – Housing along Kopřivnička
Kóňová, Patrícia ; Mašek, Radomír (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The prefabricated apartment buildings are on the west bank of the river and family houses on the east bank of the river. On the east side there are private areas of family houses and on the west side there are prefabricated buildings with poor quality public spaces. There is only the anonymity of the city, isolation and a lack of human dimension. My concept solves the problem of combining two opposing approaches. It emphasizes neighborly relations in the form of community and the development of community thinking. What should urbanism that unites people look like?
