Unsupervised Cloud Classification of Sky Imagery
Piter, Oliver ; Šikudová, Elena (advisor) ; Rittig, Tobias (referee)
Cloud classification task is a task where we classify images of clouds into groups of similar images. Images are similar in terms of texture, shape, colour, size and other visual aspects. The aim of this work is to create an algorithm that can cluster images of clouds based on their sky coverage so that a user can request a specific type of cloud coverage from database of images and use the images for downstream tasks such as procedural sky generation. We use various models for feature extraction based on contrastive learning and image reconstruction and for clustering we use self-supervised learning and distance- based methods. These methods were used for clustering a subset of our data and evaluated based on visual consistency of clusters and cluster separation metrics. 1
Features of foreign investment in developing countries
Doubová, Klaudie ; Balaš, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šturma, Pavel (referee)
Název diplomové práce v anglickém jazyce, abstrakt v anglickém jazyce a tři klíčová slova v anglickém jazyce Title: Features of foreign investment in developing countries Abstract: Thesis explores the issue of foreign investment in developing countries. The focus is mainly on the contractual relationship between China and African countries. This thesis answers the questions of what the features of African Chinese investment treaties are and whether these investment treaties are comparable to the treaties that China concludes with developed countries. In order to understand these issues, the thesis first discusses the history of investment protection and defines the basic concepts in this legal area. The following chapters provide a detailed analysis of bilateral investment treaties concluded between developing states as well as developed states. The aim of the thesis is to review the implications of these African Chinese treaties for Africa. Keywords: Bilateral Investment Treaties, basic principles of foreign investments, China-Africa Investment Treaties
Rhythm recognition
Vomelová, Lucie ; Mareš, Martin (advisor) ; Pešková, Klára (referee)
Rhythm is an important part of music. It is easy for humans to hear or feel the rhythm of a song, but automatic rhythm recognition is a complicated task. In this work, we in- troduce an algorithm for automatic rhythm recognition in songs with constant tempo. The algorithm follows these steps: onset detection, tempo analysis, beat detection, and rhythm detection. We introduce different approaches for each step. The goal is to com- pare the approaches to find the best one. We provide a Python package implementing all of the described approaches and steps. We also conduct experiments to determine the best approach in each step.
Visual Editing of Domain Control Knowledge for Planning
Gráf, Martin ; Barták, Roman (advisor) ; Chrpa, Lukáš (referee)
The ability to only define the physics of an environment in classical plan- ning tasks has been a long-standing obstacle in practical applications of such an approach. Current generic planners are typically capable of finding a solution to a given problem, but their inability to consider domain-specific constraints is often mirrored in a significant performance gap when compared to domain-specific algorithms. Remedying this gap would prove invaluable in making classical domain-independent planners viable in production envi- ronments. In this paper, we will first introduce the area of classical planning and briefly touch on popular approaches to solving planning tasks. We will then show the principle of Attributed Transition-Based Domain Control Knowledge, which encodes additional problem-specific information into a domain. Finally, we will present our implementation along with experimental results.
Fashion hanbok - linking tradition and modern trends
Staroverova, Yaroslava ; Mazaná, Vladislava (advisor) ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the development of korean traditional clothing, called "hanbok" and puts emphasis on modern designers. The first part of this thesis goes into individual parts of the hanbok, such as color, motifs and textiles. Due to the need for later analysis of modern hanbok designs. The next part focuses on a brief description of development of hanbok from the conclusion of the Jeoson period through Japanese occupation to the present day. The final part focuses more on the new and diverse forms of hanbok, not only as everyday clothing, but also as clothing that can be seen in digital form, virtual reality or in games as well. Different ways of promoting awareness of hanbok are also discussed. The aim of this thesis is to cover and describe the journey of the hanbok to the present day and to show new forms of the hanbok. The thesis will also answer the questions of how much impact the hanbok has on contemporary fashion in Korea and over the world as well, and if we can see hanbok fashion as part of the Korean wave.
Repeated low-dose flubendazole treatment and its effect on glioblastoma cells
Namyslová, Marie ; Szotáková, Barbora (advisor) ; Králová, Věra (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: Marie Namyslová Supervisor: prof. Ing. Barbora Szotáková, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: Repeated low-dose flubendazole treatment and its effect on glioblastoma cells Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive and common primary brain tumours in the adults. GBM is resistant to current treatment and the median survival of treated patients with this disease is around 15 months. The very poor prognosis of this disease has prompted the research of new therapeutic strategies. A promising direction is represented by drugs already registered for other indications, such as the anthelmintic flubendazole (FLU) with potential antitumour activity. The aim of this work was to study the effect of FLU after repeated low-dose treatment of GBM cells. Two cell lines, U87MG and U87MG-IDH1mut, were used for this work and the effect of repeated doses of FLU on cell viability (using the WST-1) and on cell morphology (via phase contrast microscopy) was investigated. Furthermore, changes in the expression of cell cycle markers, proliferation, growth, and resistance markers after FLU treatment were evaluated at the mRNA level (RT-PCR) and protein level (Western blotting). Subsequently, the activity of initiator and...
Cross-lingual transfer for the annotation of the SynSemClass ontology
Kašpárek, Petr ; Hajič, Jan (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Jan (referee)
This work compares two approaches to automatic preannotation of semantic class to verbs in a sentence for the purpose of adding a new language to the SynSemClass ontology. Both approaches rely on a multilingual deep learning classification model fine-tuned on already annotated English, Czech and German data of the ontology. The first, more classical, approach is annotation projection. It uses a parallel corpus and the aforementioned model to make predictions on a source language already present in the ontology and projects the predictions onto the target language using automated word alignment. The second approach, zero-shot cross-lingual transfer, assumes that the multilingual properties of the underlying model are sufficient and that we can make reasonable predictions directly on the target language, even though the model was never trained for that specific task on the specific target language. For the purpose of evaluation, we manually build and annotate a small Korean language dataset to test the performance on a language significantly different from English, Czech and German. We conclude that the zero-shot approach performs notably better than the alignment approach (p < 0.005) obtaining 0.54 both in recall and precision, compared to 0.37 and 0.41 in recall and precision respectively of the alignment...
Naturalistic elements in the novel Fortunata and Jacinta
Klokanová, Diana ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Kavková, Kateřina (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on the naturalistic elements in the novel Fortunata and Jacinta, which was written by a Spanish author Benito Pérez Galdós. The initial part is dedicated to the author's biography and the historical-literary context of naturalism. Furthermore, the work examines thoroughly the novel itself. The analysis of behaviour and the manner of speech of the characters is oriented on identification of motives for their actions. The features and manifestations of naturalism are also presented. The work also examines the influence of a person's surroundings and the hidden meaning of the characters. In the closing part the work analyses the impact of naturalism on human character and emphasises the role of symbolism.
Order Independent Transparency
Rožek, Matúš ; Kahoun, Martin (advisor) ; Iser, Tomáš (referee)
Rendering transparent geometry in realtime brings a set of problems as the transpar- ent objects need to be sorted first and rendered in order from back to front for their correct overlaying. A set of rendering algorithms called Order Independent Transparency (OIT) tries to accomplish this without sorting the geometry in advance. We create a program implementing five algorithms and compare their weaknesses, strengths, and properties. Some algorithms might excel in certain conditions and produce great results, yet fall short in slightly different environments. We aim to answer the question of which OIT algorithm is best suited for which scenarios.
Testing of the efficacy and toxicity of new potential anthelmintics OMK3 AND OMK4
Žáková, Barbora ; Skálová, Lenka (advisor) ; Szotáková, Barbora (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biochemical sciences Candidate: Bc. Barbora Žáková Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Lenka Skálová, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: Testing of the efficacy and toxicity of new potential anthelmintics OMK3 and OMK4 Haemonchus contortus is a parasite of smaller ruminants, mainly sheep and goats. It causes a disease called haemonchosis, the main symptom of which is anemia, whitch can lead to the death of the animal. Anthelmintics are used to treat this disease. However, these drugs have become ineffective due to resistance developing against them. Haemonchosis is thus becoming a significant global problem. Therefore, it is necessary to search for new anthelmintics with a new mechanism of action. In this study, the potential anthelmintic effects of new derivates of benzhydroxamic acide, OMK3 and OMK4, were investigated. The aim of this study was to determine whether these substances have an effect on eggs, larvae and adults of H. contortus, and to compare their effects on sensitive and resistant strains of H. contortus and to test their potential toxicity on sheep livers. For this purpose, eggs, larvae and adults of H. contortus were isolated, precision-cut liver slices from sheep were prepared, and the following tests were used: egg hatch...
