Problem posing as a way to mathematical literacy
Tichá, Marie ; Hošpesová, A.
In our work we search for ways of development of students' mathematical literacy. We aim at students' ability to utilize mathematics as a suitable tool for understanding of the world. Our aim is that students will be able to develop their knowledge. We stress not only solving of various problems. Also problem posing gets in the centre of our considerations on mathematical education. We believe that problem posing should be one of central topics of teaching of mathematics. It could be understand as aim as well as means of education and in addition also as diagnostic and motivating tool.
Substantial Learning Environments for Natural Differentiation
Tichá, Marie
In the contribution we will discuss several questions related to the creation and discovery of substantial learning environments and the potential they bear for general improvement of education. The concept of "substantial learning environment" will be characterized. We will also demonstrate what potential it has for natural differentiation as one of the forms of inner motivation.
Problem Posing, a Way to Teachers' Change
Hošpesová, A. ; Tichá, Marie
Problem posing is an important component of a teacher's everyday activity. This contribution wants to show how problem posing may be used as a way to an increase in teachers' professionalism, to improvement of their subject didactic competence and also as a diagnostic and motivational tool.
A survey of global investigations of linear differential equations
Neuman, František
In contrast to the local investigations of behavior of solutions of linear differential equations, that started already in the XVII-th century, here we present a survey of methods and results of a global nature. It was possible to establish the unified theory of global properties of solutions of linear differential equations: to describe global canonical forms, distribution of zeros of solutions and other global properties of the equations studied.
Living and Nonliving Mosaic
Ilucová, Lucia
Suitable statistic characteristic for variability of elements of set with some feature is coefficient of variation. Planar tessellation (the set of figures which cover the plane without gaps or overlaps) is presented as an example for application of this characteristic.
Mathematics in Paracelsus' time
Saxl, Ivan
The life of five mathematicians, Nicolas Choquet, Éstienne de la Roche, Johannes Widmann, Adam Ries and Albrecht Dürer, are described and their main mathematical achievements consisting in writing textbooks of different kind are discussed.
Paracelsus and his work
Saxl, Ivan
The life, ideas and works of Paracelsus as well as some recent activities inspired by him are shortly presented and reviewed.
Od pixelů a myšlenek k matematickým znalostem v digitální knihovně
Rákosník, Jiří ; Sojka, P.
Experience in setting up a workflow from scanned images of mathematical papers into a fully fledged mathematical library is described on the example of the project Czech Digital Mathematics Library DML-CZ. An overview of the whole process is given, with description of all main production steps. DML-CZ has recently been launched to public with more than 100,000 digitized pages.
Czech Digital Mathematics Library DML-CZ
Rákosník, Jiří
The aim of the paper is to explain principles of the digital library and processes and methods of its creation, with special consideration of requirements of mathematics, and to present Czech Digital Mathematics Library representing the solution of the project supported in frames of the R&D programme Information Society.
Programy a algoritmy numerické matematiky 14
Chleboun, Jan ; Přikryl, Petr ; Segeth, Karel ; Vejchodský, Tomáš
The book contains papers presented at the international seminar Programs and algorithms of numerical Mathematics 14 (PANM 14), held in Dolni Maxov, Czech Republic, June 1-6, 2008. It is the fourteenth volume in the series of the PANM proceedings. The topics of contributions include numerical methods for fluid flow modelling, the finite element method, a posteriori error estimates, topics from numerical linear atgebra, etc.
