The focus of the bachelor thesis is to examine in closer detail the piano composition Piano Sonata in E minor, op. 2 by the Slovakian composer Alexander Moyzes (1906-1984). This is achieved through the compositional-technical analysis of its printed version that was published during the composer's life, in 1947. The aim is not to place the composition primarily within the historical context as a considerable amount of related sources has been collected; a large space of the work is therefore occupied by the analysis of these sources. Through the detailed study of these the thesis attempts to outline the genesis of the above mentioned composition and briefly comment on the development of Moyzes's compositional activities. Key words: Alexander Moyzes, Sonata, sources, musical analysis
