Rituals at Alternative Nursery Schools

This bachelor thesis examines use of rituals at alternative nursery schools. The theoretical part explains the term ritual and usefulness of rituals for children of preschool age. Further, the term alternative is discussed and programmes of alternative nursery schools are introduced. The practical part presents records of the course of the day at alternative nursery schools with emphasis on rituals. The method used for the research is direct observation and interviewing with teachers of alternative nursery schools. The practical part is illustrated by texts of rituals collected during the research.

Physical transformation

The theoretical part of the thesis should bring us into the issue followed by subsequent analysis and comparison of body modifications such as piercings, microdermal implants, tattoos and corsets in the socio-cultural discourse. The following section should be focused on the differences between ethnic cultures with respect to the issue outlined. The output of the practical part is based on theoretical knowledge, basic manual should be the final product, which would introduce the issue of deliberate physical transformation of the main points to the general public.

Ritualisation of marginal life situations in contemporary society

The thesis deals with contemporary form and course of rituals, which are connected with boundary life situations. And also their comparing with rituals of archaic and traditional societies. The first chapter is dedicated to the ritual, its possible forms and courses, as well as its meaning. The second chapter deals with charakteristics boundary life situations and rites of passage too. The third through sixth chapter describes separately four boundary life situations, namely birth, maturing, marrige and death. Individual milestones of life are characterized in the thesis in detail and there are gived the examples of rituals typical for them. The thesis describes also social roles and changes of theirs, which are influenced by boundary life situations.

Body Design

The long-term topic of my artistic interest is an attempt to link sport with art by examining the human body and movement. In this bachelor thesis, I build on already existing work and I further develop this idea. I deal with a sport as a cleansing ritual and I focus on a sweat as a phenomenon of physical activity. I find grace in this body fluid and I use it on a commercial level. Using the sweat, I create a unique T-shirt design and I present it through a website created just for this event.

Anenský dvůr used to be a farm surrounded by fields just a few dozen meters from the Austrian border. It worked even during the fifties before the creation of the Iron Curtain. Agricultural activity slowly subsided, people disappeared. Nature began quietly but ceaselessly, in small portions, getting on its side after the interval division. Buildings and their surroundings started to change. Nature has changed in fifty years place unrecognizable. Clearly defined boundaries are erased, flash greenery spread to the surrounding area and has created a specific single entity defining the surrounding chaos. Such a situation is the basis for the layout of the new cemetery. Current enhanced peripheral borders are strengthened by planting oaks, while the interior is modified. Most of invasive acacia and other shrubs are removed. The original character of the place, floodplain meadow is reinforced by planting new trees, such as birch or cherry. The new cemetery consists of two main areas - internal groomed lawn under clearly defined square walls, which leads to deposition of ash and vice versa in the outer belt informal grown meadows are individual pavilions cemetery.

The Feast

For the realization of forest feast, I chose the form of a happening, and consciously find myself on the edge of art and ritual. I see art as both artifacts created a situation for forest receptions, so the process of formation and reflection receptions, concept or screenplay. The feast of Christ gradually became a major theme in the history of art to the modernist and contemporary design. However, I wanted to draw your own version of a symbolic feast as it is for me the key theme of the relationship between man and nature, I placed a feast to the natural landscape. That is my role model in the theater of orgies and mysteries Herman Nitsch and installation Woman House Dinner Party by Judy Chicago. My happening also counts with people, which is thought imminent. Already during previous meetings with small domestic fire, we realized that it is an intimate ritual and should be well participants choose to debate with them about the situation, well brighten intention. Some of the invited guests with my thoughts directly disagreed and refused to participate. That's why I later reviewed, it is a community event. Close relationships that are fundamental perception of that experience helps a reality shared apartment, in the city center on Minority 12. Here, daily life is characterized by the features of a small community. One of the reasons why some invitees refused participation is likely that not so common reality. They do not have a clear awareness of the artistic realities and contexts that allow action should be viewed with a certain detachment, as a result of some conceptual activity of the author. Death and rituals associated with death of children at elementary school a in present-day society.

This thesis deals with the view of death in current society in ČR. The first part of the thesis defines the concept of death which touches our lives. It examines death from the point of view of sociology, psychology and theology. The second part is dedicated to meeting children with death in their life and is focused on possibilities to meet with the topic of death in school education. The third part follows up with rituals which help us to go through certain situations together. The final fourth part shows us results of quantitative research in the understanding of death in children of younger school age.

Rituals connected with childbirth in Bohemia and Moravia since the 17th century to the present

This thesis deals with rituals connected with childbirth in Bohemia and Moravia since the 17th century to the present. The first chapter describes the word ritual, especially the transition ritual, which is understood as a necessary assumption enabling the transition from one stage of life to the other. The next chapter presents the family and its development across the centuries from the traditional conception until the modern one. The family also plays an important role in education and in the child's integration into society - this is discussed in the third chapter. The fourth chapter maps the rituals connected with childbirth adhered to in the past. The fifth chapter continues analyzing the situation about current rituals. The last chapter compares the situation about the implementation of rituals in the past with the situation nowadays. It is concluded with the authors own research, which was based on real data collection.

Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg and the Order of the Golden Fleece

This thesis is devoted to the ceremonial conferment of the Order of the Golden Fleece to Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg, which took place on 1 December 1650 in Brussels. Its aim is to reconstruct the course of the individual steps of the Golden Fleece ritual celebrations. The author approaches to the celebration from the symbolic content point of view in order to interpret all chronologically arranged parts of performance. Communication net analysis of Jan Adolf Schwarzenberg is also considered to be an important tool to obtain the above mentioned awards. The author also deals with symbolic meaning of preserved Greeting sheets, sent by the Count of Schwarzenberg to the communicators in order to congratulate them on obtaining the Order.

Nasal Fixation by Methamphetamine Users

The diploma thesis theme, which I have chosen, Addiction to the nasal use of pervitin, is based on my long-term interest in this subject.One of the factors that may be important in the study of any drug problem is the ritual. Rituals here may appear on several levels - it may contribute to the formation and maintenance of a dependency, in the application itself (creation of "lines" on the mirror, the use of identity cards, sniffing with a rolled banknote, etc.) and can take various forms (e.g., group or individual) (Holzbachova, 1999). For my thesis, I have chosen the method of qualitative research. The basic approach of qualitative research includes the grounded theory. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and describe the different aspects of ritual behavior of nasal drug users. The research question was to discover, which aspects of ritual occur in nasal drug users. As it is described in literature, all drug users ritualize the drug application to some extent. This represents stylized and routine behavior that occurs during drug use. There are situations, like the procurement of drugs, methods of taking, activities following the use of drugs and the ways to prevent the negative effects of drugs (Grund, 1993). During an interview, two of the interviewees said the word "ritual". Cyril considers it a ritual and the activities precede sniffing. These are activities associated with the hunt for the drug, the journey to the drug and the nervousness "before trip", which according to him is stronger than the feeling of drug application. Dana describes the application procedure as a ritual. However, she describes as ritualistic her behavior during the purchase of a sufficient supply of cigarettes for intoxication or when applying the drug on the toilet seat, wiping the toilet boards before the actual preparation of the drug for application. Although the other two interviewees did not use the word ritual in their answers directly, some ritualistic elements signaled a routine behavior in conducting the drugs process by them as well. In general, we assume that the thesis can contribute to the discussion about the ritual aspects of drug users. This work brings in new information about the rituals of nasal drug users. We anticipate publication in a professional periodical.
