Raw materials of Manětín area and their presentation in the form of educational patthway
Čada, Martin ; Přikryl, Richard (advisor) ; Matějka, Dobroslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the geological history (Late Proterozoic to Quaternary) of the Manětín Permian-Carboniferous basin. It also studies the historical and present use of raw materials (ores, non-metallics, caustobiolites) in the Manětín area, the northern part of the Plzeň-sever district. In appendix, information panels of the educational pathway are proposed. The Manětín basin consists of two structural levels. The lower one (Proterozoic metapelites) forms the base of the basin. The upper one (Permian-Carboniferous clastic sedimentary rocks) is the filling of the basin. There are also a few Proterozoic and Tertiary volcanic bodies. In the past, ore deposits (gold, silver, iron) had been exploited in the Manětín area. Non-metallics (glass sand, ocher, pyrite-slate, roof-slate, structural clay products, arkose) had been largely used, too. There was only a small scale extraction of caustobiolites (humites). Today's extraction is focused on natural stone (crushed stone) only (Zahrádka and Březín deposits). The proposal of the educational pathway contains seven information boards, that show the geological history of the Manětín basin and the use of local mineral raw materials (gold, slate, natural stone) with it's influence on the landscape, society and industry, particularly glass production. Political Prisoners of Jáchymov. Oral History in Theory and Practice
Bouška, Tomáš ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee) ; Valeš, Lukáš (referee)
The aim of this doctoral thesis combines the possibilities of oral history in theory and practice. The first part prepares the field for delivering results of my research which is targeted at mapping and understanding recent history using oral histories of twelve survivors of communist régime imprisoned in the 1950s in the Jachymov district. At first, I demonstrate the usage of oral history and related thinking about it abroad and in the Czech context. I deliver the empirical material of this work using this method. It consists from life stories and personal testimonies of former political prisoners who have been organised in the Confederation of Political Prisoners after 1989 in the Czech Republic. Apart from methodological collection, analysis and interpretation of their life stories I point at further processing and introduction of such a research to the wide and expert public. I believe in the premise that personal testimonies of narrators represent a contribution to understanding "small history and its human aspect - here dealing with the Czechoslovak political persecution in 1950s. I also describe the evolution of my research project which I managed to enlarge and link to other academic work of my PhD. colleagues. Like this I hope to give birth to a (hopefully) unique multidisciplinary project which...

Soil contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from local heating
Šustáček, Jan ; Mikulová, Vlastimila (advisor) ; Jiří, Jiří (referee)
Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are the pollutants of the environment. These dangerous chemical compounds are produced by man and its activities. The source of these pollutants are mainly burning of fossil fuels and biomass, as well as transportation and industrial production. From the literature they were obtained evidence regarding PAHs, their properties and group trends. For the main PAHs was found their relative genetic toxicity and was described mechanism of their effect on DNA. Based on the literature was compiled ranking of fuels with respect to the production of PAHs. The monitoring of untouched area by industry and transportation. The sampling was done in the surroundings Bušanovice village located in Prachatice district. The samples were taken from surface soil horizon. Samples were taken in 2015 to various remote locations from the center of the village. These samples were analyzed by HPLC technique. It was found that the largest source of contamination are local furnaces burning solid fuels such as wood and coal. The concentrations of PAHs in the samples was in the range of 0.24 to 19.21 mg / kg dm. These values are considerably higher than was expected and in the European scale concentrations correspond to large cities with heavy traffic or industrial areas.
