Kapuscinská, Kristína ; Zoulík, František (advisor) ; Smolík, Petr (referee)
Univerzita Karlova v Praze Právnická fakulta Kristína Kapuscinská ŽALOBA A ROZSUDEK (VZÁJEMNÝ VZTAH) Diplomová práce Abstrakt v anglickém jazyce Action and Judgment (mutual relation) Action and judgment are the key instruments of procedural law. The central topic of my thesis is the mutual relation between them; nevertheless we can not define the mutual relation without the basic definitions and a brief description of the action and judgment as process instruments, especially concentrating on its requirements, so that it should be possible to formulate the essence of its procedural consistency. I tried to express its mutual relation and complex context in my thesis. The mutual relation is evident when interpreting the law action theories, which tried in more or less successful way to resolve the relation between substantive and procedural law. Finally, the whole development of the action is illustrated by the comparison with the system of actions in Roman law which were understood as pure substantive institutes. The mutual relation is reflected in the components of the action and judgment. It is clearly evident in the case of the petit and the body of judgment which follows. The mutual relation is also evident in the case of the dispositive acts, the applicant may within his procedural rights dispose of the...

Realist theories and the causes of the US invasion to Iraq
Klincová, Lucia ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Rychnovská, Dagmar (referee)
The bachelor thesis called "The realist theories and the causes of the US invasion in Iraq" discusses the motivations that led the representatives of the United States of America to the decision to invade Iraq. These causes are analyzed based on the theoretical approaches of the offensive and defensive realism. We focus directly on the theories by which we create hypotheses suggestive of the possible causes which could have led the United States to this decision. Every hypothesis then takes into account the public debate of the presented causes. This thesis mainly focuses on the effort to gain the access to the Iraqi oil resources, the strengthening of the U.S. currency, the weakening of the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein and the tendency to eliminate the potential threats caused by the weapons of mass destruction. After defining the theories, taking into account the public debate and formulating the hypotheses, we are trying to confirm or refute them and thus highlight the real causes of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, which is the essential purpose of this bachelor thesis.

Analysis of Biblical Texts Using the Grid-Group Method and Its Application to the First Epistle to the Corinthians
Oudová Holcátová, Barbara ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Halík, Tomáš (referee)
In her book Natural Symbols (1970), the British anthropologist Mary Douglas discussed the question of why and how are certain trans-cultural religious phenomena combined into different systems of understanding the world. She sought the answer in various types of social situations in which the systems of ideas are formulated, and tried to analyze them using two variables, "group" (the amount in which certain group's borders are defined in contrast with the rest of the society) and "grid" (the amount in which the role of an individual in society is determined and in which the individual's system of classification is shared by others or determined by them). These two variables enable us to sort different religious cosmologies depending on what ideals they paint in these respects and what demands they make of an individual. Mary Douglas compares this theoretical concept with existing cultures, assesses how similar their cosmologies are in respect of these two points of view, and examines whether there are matching social arrangements, norms of action and the like. On one hand, she enables us to put otherwise isolated cultural phenomena in an overall frame of meaning, on the other hand the application of this approach to religious ideas opens many possibilities of finding connections between religions in the...

Political Mobilization in the Czech Republic after 1998: Role of the Protest Movements and Initiatives in the Society
Staňková, Monika ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Šušlíková, Lada (referee)
The mass character of political mobilization is not the only measure for the strength of civil society. It turns out that, in post-communist countries including the Czech Republic, transaction capacity became the characteristic of protest movements and initiatives. It referrs to the ability to cooperate, take advantage of inter-organizational network and share resources and know how. These transactions, to a certain extent, compensate for poor mobilization capacity, which is typical for new transactional activism and civic self-organizations. The contrast between "old" social movements, episodic mass mobilisations, new transactional activism, along with civil self-organization, illustrated that even without mass mobilization a mature structure of civil society and advocacy organizations can emerge and operate. The year 1998 brought the beginning of favorable conditions for political activism. It turns out that the activity of the "old" activism decreases with the number of members of trade unions, which is typical for this mode. At the same time, people prefer forms of direct action and direct public protest. Using five selected case studies we described the nature of episodic mass mobilization, civil ad hoc and informal self-organization and new transactional activism, whose repertoire is besides petitions...
