Lomnička yesterday and today : Transformations of social structure in the village and their reflection in the lived world of Roma children
Schurdaková, Petra ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee)
The master thesis "Lomnička now and then: Changes of social structure in a village and its reflection in life-worlds of Gypsy children" reconstructs a life in Lomnička together with capturing a change of social structure of inhabitants by creating a past and present picture of the village. A result of the reconstruction is an environment that shows signs of a culture of poverty. This environment sets a base of living space for children in village. In short, it describes problems of the space as well as character of Gypsy family (beliefs, habits, social organization, and relationship to nature) and childhood itself. The aim is to find out how children in Lomnička reflect contemporary environment in their life-worlds. With a help of mental maps, this thesis describes life-world of children in which environment created by family and environment created by church is interconnected. Such a fact is reflected, in children's life-worlds, in positive presentation of their environment and mainly in change of their habits.
Gypsy's child structure of the day - declaration and reality
Maierová, Martina ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Levínská, Markéta (referee)
The purpose of my thesis is to present the structuring of time of eight Gypsy children aged 11 to 17, living or spending free time at prague's suburb Velká Ohrada. The central goal of this thesis is to identify the Gypsy's child structure of the day and to find out which points of a child's day are defined as crucial by child and by parents and to which event of a day these points refer to. The text is divided into theoretical and empirical part. Theoretical part focuses on pointing out the main aspects of the topic of time. First part also tackles the issue of conceptualization of time as a category itself and as a category, which structures the reality. Question of time is analysed in the context of sociology and psychology. The literature related to the structuring of time of Gypsies is also reflected in the theoretical part of the thesis. The discourse is conducted from a historical perspective and notes that the perception of time was affected by several significant milestones. Empirical part, in addition to the description of objectives, methods, research sample and environment pays particular attention to analysis of its own data of quality- oriented research - the view of Gypsy childern and their parents on how they spend different types of days (e.g. weekday, weekend day, holiday day)....
The attitude of inhabitants in the location of České Budějovice to accepting gypsy children to a substitute family care
KŘISTKOVÁ, Lucie
In spite of a fact that parentage is taken as a natural part of life, unluckily the number of families without children is growing up. How to resolve this situation, if the pair is wishing for the baby and they can not have it? One of the feasible solution is substitute family care. Both sides - a pair wishing for the baby and children growing up in institution - will be happy with this method of solution. This bachelor thesis is divided into two parts the theoretical part and the research. The point of the theoretical part of my bachelor thesis was to explain what the substitute family care is and to describe forms of substitute family care. Next point was to describe how life of gypsy minority in the Czech Republic looks like, to describe stereotypes of majority to this minority and describe problems of a gypsy child in substitute family care. The point of the practical part was to find out an opinion of community in the South Bohemian region on taking gypsy children to substitute family care, to find out their prejudices against gypsy people and if this prejudices influence the choice of accepting gypsy children to substitute family care. I did quantitative research which contained my own answer sheet, which consisted of 14 questions and with this answer sheet I was trying to achieve the best stated goals. Questions were divided into questions finding out the opinions of the respondents and identification questions. In sum 205 answer sheets was hand-out and 197 was returned to me, so rate of return was 96%. I set two hypoteses: Hypotesis 1 is: "Gypsy children are accepted more into foster care than into adpotion." Hypotesis 2 is: "The number of probability of acceptance of gypsy child is less with more prejudice of people." The more prejudice people have, the smaller number of probability of acceptance of gypsy child is. The research shows that in community the prejudices are very extent and because of that people are not willing to accept gypsy child to substitute family care. The next confirmed fact was that people would rather accept gypsy child into foster care than adopt him forever. This bachelor thesis woud be helpful to employees of OSPOD in deparment of substitute family care to recieve a real image of intolerantion to gypsy minority, next would be helpful to claiments applying for a substitute family care to recieve helpful information and as well for the students as a study material.

Roma Children and their School Successfulness
DRMOTOVÁ, Adéla
Romanies in the Czech Republic are considered the most numerous national minority. At present time we can percieve especially the gradual diappearance of traditional values of this ethnic and its place on the edge of society. One of the ways out of this situation is considered education of Roma children. The school successfulness is closely related to education. Therefore, the topic of my thesis is called {\clqq}Roma children and their school successfulness.`` The thesis was conceived as qualitative research, the aim of which was to chart school successfulness of Roma children at the begining of school attendance (first and second grades) from the view of Roma children and their parents. In theoretical part I devoted to historical fates of Romany people, their culture and their contemporary position in society. This part contains information on Romanies´ education and describes school successfulness of Roma children. The technique of field data collecting was half-guided dialogue completed with observation and analysis of the documents. The target research group were Roma children from ``Erko``- low-threshold facility for children and youth at District Charity in Jihlava, and for their parents. The research results were processed by form of case study and consequently compared with scientific literature. Following hypotheses resulted from the research: ,,Education of Roma children is important for Roma patente.``,,It is important to be educated for Roma children as well.`` From the results it is evident that ,,Roma parents are interested in school results of their children.`` The research showed: ,,if a child attends pre-school institution, the risk of repetition in the first grade decreases.`` ,,Main reason of first grade repetition is failure in Czech Language.`` ,,Czech Language represents the biggest problem for Roma children at the beginning of school attendance, therefore it turns in the least favourite subjekt.`` {\clqq}Mothers dominate in the sphere of school duties of their own Roma children.`` The research also realised that {\clqq}Roma children don´t know Roma language.`` {\clqq}Parents don´t tell Roma fairy-tales or stories to their children.`` This work gives basic survey on Roma ethnic. The research material can serve as a base for further study or according to offered hypotheses it can become an inspiration for quantitative research.

Next the work concerns with singular opitons for substitutional family care of Roma children (as is for example:foster care, adoption, international adoption). In the practical part I´ve carried out an anlysis of my interview with a family fostering four Roma children. Many facts that had been described in the theoretical part of the thesis were later confirmed during the interview. That´s why I´ve analysed the singular information a acquired from the interview in the research part of the bachelor thesis.
