Study on relaxation properties of hydrogels using rheological techniques
Lorenc, Pavel ; Klučáková, Martina (referee) ; Smilek, Jiří (advisor)
Submitted bachelor’s thesis deals with the study of relaxation and time stress of viscoelastic substances (hydrogels) using selected rheological techniques, especially with regard to oscillation tests. Hydrogels with different types of crosslinking were prepared and their properties were compared during the measurement. Agarose hydrogels (physically), alginate hydrogels (physicochemically), polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels (chemically) and hyaluronic acid hydrogels (ionically). In this bachelor's thesis, methods for measuring the relaxation properties of these hydrogels using a rheometer were designed and subsequently applied. We examined the relaxation properties of hydrogels using time-dependent tests that examined changes in amplitude over time. We performed a test that had 3 intervals, in which we monitored the response of hydrogels to the changes by changing the amplitudes of deformation with time. The relaxation properties of these hydrogels were studied, which showed significant differences in the behavior of hydrogels in measurements.By these methods, it was found that the structure of hydrogels and concentrations have an influence on relaxation. From the measured results, it was shown that the best relaxing properties have chemically crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel, the lowest ability to relax was shown by physico-chemically crosslinked alginate hydrogel. The results from the measured data were finally compared, assessed and commented on the differences between the individual hydrogels.

Almásyová, Zuzana ; Pospíšil, Ladislav (referee) ; Jančář, Josef (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with preparation and testing of biodegradable materials for use in the packaging indrustry. The task of this work is to prepare set of laboratory made films based on wheat starch, glycerol, polyvinyl alcohol with the addition of a suitable additive, which has been selected as citric acid. A suitable composition meeting the requirements of the packaging foils has been found. Quaternary blends from all components achieve the best results. It has been found that citric acid can influence the chemical structure and thus affect the mechanical and thermal properities and also the degree of solubility. The films were characterized in terms of mechanical properities by tensile testing and thermal stability by means of thermogravimetric analysis with respect to the phase structure. The structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The biodegradability of the film was tested by its solubility in aqueous medium.
Plasma modification of functionalized PVA nanofibers for the enhancement of mesenchymal stem cell adhesion, viability and proliferation.
Bezděková, Dagmar ; Amler, Evžen (advisor) ; Gášková, Dana (referee)
Electrospinning is widely used technique to produce nanoscale constructs for tissue engineering. This technique can be used to spin wide range of polymers. One of them is polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which has very good properties for use in this field. PVA is nontoxic, has good mechanical strength and it's degradable and biocompatible. Electrospun PVA nanofibers have limitations because of their -OH side groups. These groups cause solubility of PVA in water. The solubility can be adjusted with crosslinking techniques, but PVA still remains very hydrophilic, which is causing low adhesion of cells. In recent research we decided to reduce the hydrophilicity of PVA using plasma modification. Polymer modification with cold plasma is an economic and quite simple process to change the surface chemistry without side effects that come with conventional chemical treatment. With radical, formed by discharge, we have deposited hydrocarbons on the PVA surface and we rapidly increased hydrophobicity of the polymer surface. The change of surface chemistry has only a little effect on the fiber morphology. The increase of hydrophobicity allowed better adhesion of mesenchymal stem cells on plasma modified PVA as compared to non-modified PVA and a huge change in cell morphology was observed. These changes suggest that we...

Divínová, Nikol ; Voráč,, Zbyněk (referee) ; Chamradová, Ivana (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with preparation and characterization of aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol suitable for electrospinning. In the theoretical part method of electrospinning is described, including parameters which influence this process. Literary research also includes a chapter about rheology, which deals with the rheological properties of polymers, specifically PVA. The experimental part describes the preparation and rheological study of of aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol, which were then spun. The morphology of prepared nanofibers was studied by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of molecular weight, the solvent, concentration of solution, rheological properties, electrical conductivity and surface tension on the spinability, diameter and morphology of nanofibers is discussed.

Másilko, Jiří ; Palou, Martin (referee) ; Drábik, Milan (referee) ; Havlica, Jaromír (advisor)
The subject of the doctoral thesis is the study of moisture resistance of macro-defect-free (MDF) composites based on calcium-aluminate cement and polyvinylalcohol used as polymer. MDF cements are perspective materials providing unique properties relative to traditional cement pastes with great potential to incoming constructional utilization. But it is known that MDF cements exhibit sensitivity to water, with swelling and reduction of strength. Therefore the work is aimed in monitoring of an organic polymer effect on the moisture resistance of MDF materials and phase changes. The effects of three different organotitanate cross-linking agents on the properties were investigated. The organotitanate-modified MDF cement samples exhibited improved moisture resistance as compared to the standard samples when exposed to 100 % relative humidity or water at laboratory conditions. The influence of composition at different curing on the properties of model MDF cement samples was observed. The characterization of MDF samples was based especially on test of flexural strength, XRD, DTA/TGA and EGA, EDS and scanning electron microscopy analyses.

Repka, Martin ; Brandštetr, Jiří (referee) ; Šoukal, František (advisor)
Polymerem impregnované cementové materiály představují zajímavou a perspektivní alternativu klasických portlandských cementových past.
