The Study of Transient Species and Precursors of Biomolecules using Spectroscopic Techniques
Ferus, Martin ; Civiš, Svatopluk (advisor) ; Šponerová, Judit E. (referee) ; Wild, Jan (referee)
The presented thesis is focused on a spectroscopic study of unstable radicals, ions and molecules in a positive column glow discharge and laser plasma. The research of these fragments is supplemented by a study of biomolecules formation from these species and influence of catalysts. Molecular dynamics of radicals, ions and unstable molecules has been studied using a time resolved Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Time resolved spectra of CH4, HCONH2, BrCN, CH3CN, CF3Br, (CF3)2CHBr positive column glow discharges have been measured and simulated using a kinetic model including molecular dynamics, collisions and chemical and radiation transfer processes. The model has been compared with our experimental results and time resolved spectra were described in details. Fit to a complex reaction mechanism has been used to estimate a rate constant of a HCN conversion to HNC by a collision with H radical. The study of precursors of biomolecules was focused on chemical consequences of a laser induced dielectric breakdown in formamide vapor and gaseous carbon monooxide with 18 O labeled water. Dissociation products have been detected using the Fourier transform absorption spectroscopy. The experimental results have been explained by a help of a chemical laser spark dynamics model. Additionally, our the...

Gold market analysis and the influence of commodities on portfolio diversification
Kováč, Jakub ; Musílek, Petr (advisor) ; Vorek, Marián (referee)
The objective of the Diploma Thesis entitled Gold market analysis and the influence of commodities on portfolio diversification is to provide an insight to commodities as an investment asset class. This goal is tackled by the first and the second chapter. The first chapter provides theoretical support for commodities as a distinct asset, whereas the second chapter is focused on investors opportunities to obtain economic exposure to commodity assets on current financial markets. When introducing the commodity products, main focus is set on the gold market. The second objective of the Diploma Thesis is to analyze the gold market and gold added value for the investors. The structure of both supply and demand for gold is analyzed. Demand and supply are identified as the main gold price drivers. The thesis confirms that the main added value of gold as an asset lies in its addition to a portfolio of capital assets. Gold significantly improves diversification of the portfolio, protects the portfolio from inflation as well as from the economic event risk. On the contrary, in comparison to capital assets gold is not an perspective stand alone investment. The last objective of the thesis is to analyze the diversification potential of commodity indexes within a portfolio context. The last chapter is devoted to this objective. The chapter introduces commodity indexes as an investible product and analyses the influence of a selected commodity index being added to a portfolio of capital assets on the efficient investment frontier. It is shown that not only is the commodity index not a good diversification tool but the investors would be better off by selling it short.

Aggregated Indicators in Ecological Economics
Syrovátka, Miroslav ; Brůha, Jan (advisor) ; Šauer, Petr (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze three aggregated indicators and put them into the context of Ecological Economics. The second chapter points out that different sustainability perspectives imply distinct sustainability policies. Ecological Economics is outlined in contrast to Environmental Economics. Following three chapters analyze selected aggregated indicators. Aggregated indicators can provide quick insight into complex problems; however, their virtue depends to a large extent on the method of aggregation. Therefore, the interpretation of aggregated indicators should always be conditioned by their specific methodology. The Ecological Footprint is called technologically skeptical indicator of sustainability, applicable rather on a global than a national scale. Even on a lower scale the Ecological Footprint can illustrate demands of a given population for renewable natural resources. A major shortcoming of the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare is the integration of welfare and sustainability into one indicator since it does not allow for a simple interpretation of its results. High correlation between the Human Development Index and the indicators of economic activity limits the usefulness of the former. Yet, it can serve as a basis for further evolution of the concept and measurement of human...

Mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase: cyanide inhibition and role of assembly factor Surf1 defect
Nůsková, Hana ; Kalous, Martin (referee) ; Drahota, Zdeněk (advisor)
The activity of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase (COX) can be affected by either exogenous or endogenous factors. The most efficient and in the environment abundant compound that inhibits COX is cyanide. The very frequent cause of COX deficiency in humans is represented by a defect in the SURF1 gene. The mechanism of cyanide inhibitory effect on COX as well as the conditions for its recovery are not yet fully explained. Three parameters of COX function, namely the transport of electrons (oxygen consumption), the transport of protons (mitochondrial membrane potential, m) and the enzyme affinity to oxygen (p50 value), were studied with regard to the inhibition by KCN and its reversal by pyruvate. The function of COX was analysed in intact isolated rat liver mitochondria, both within the respiratory chain and as a sole enzyme, using succinate or an artificial electron donor ascorbate + TMPD as a substrate. 250 M KCN completely inhibited both electron- and proton-transporting function of COX, and this inhibition was reversible as proved with washing of mitochondria. The addition of 60 mM pyruvate induced the maximal recovery of both parameters to 60 - 80 % of original values. Using KCN in the low concentration range up to 5 M, a profound, 30-fold decrease of COX affinity to oxygen was observed....

Problems of School Bufettes in the Elementary School in the District of Písek from the Assortment Offered in Terms of Suitability
PRŮCHOVÁ, Štěpánka
This thesis deals with the issue of school meals, especially with the assortment offered in school cafeterias. The theoretical part gives a definition of health and related terms such as determinants of health, prevention or health promotion, it describes the principles of healthy eating in children, including a food guide pyramid, ten commandments for healthy eating, daily food layout, drinking regime and individual nutritional food components. It also discusses the issue of school meals, which includes school canteens, school cafeterias and it also briefly describes the projects called Milk to Schools and Fruit to Schools, the purpose of which is to increase the consumption of foodstuffs important for children's diets. In the practical part two research methods were used. In the qualitative research, operators of school cafeterias were interviewed in order to survey the offered assortment. Answers to the questions were organized into a classification scale, and for each cafeteria, based on the calculated evaluation index, the average suitability value of the offered assortment was stated in individual surveyed facilities. The other, quantitative research, was conducted through interviews using questionnaires with 14 questions, which were distributed among pupils of the second grade of primary schools to determine children's eating habits in the surveyed school. The results have shown that the offer of food in school cafeterias is not optimal for healthy nutrition for children. In the offered assortment, foodstuffs rich in simple sugars and salt content prevail, which contributes to the rise of civilization diseases. The results of the qualitative research have also proved that with the increasing age children´s eating habits worsen and also the frequency of shopping in the school cafeteria rises.

Financial analysis of LDM, Ltd.
Čečotka, Miroslav ; Boukal, Petr (advisor) ; Eisler, Jan (referee)
Dissertation is divided into two major parts -- the former is dedicated to theoretic approches to financial analysis, the latter to application of previously gained knowledge in a company. The introduction of work is dedicated to the purpose, usage and approaches to financial analysis with respect to various users of the analysis output. Moreover the document in a very detailed way deals with sources of data for financial analysis processing including weak points and their reflection in ability of calculated indicators of the financial analysis (FA) to give evidence. The most attention is of cource paid to individual steps in thorough financial analysis -- ie. vertical and horizontal analysis of statements and calculations of proportionate indicators including indicator examples from separate spheres of the analysis. Systems of indicators -- parallel but mainly pyramidal, concretely Du-pont's model is used. Dissertation thereinafter is devoted to another indicators that are useful for appreciation of the financial company health, concretely Altman's model, Kralicek's quicktest, Index IN and economic value added (EVA indicator). Comparision with branch of activity that is the company work in is a part of dissertation too. In the second part of the work, a specific company is being analysed -- in successive steps meant in the previous part. After statement analysis and calculations of proportionate indicators, I evaluate to what degree the company is successful. Simultaneously the results can indicate that outputs from the well elaborated financial analysis are of a very useful source of information for company management.
