Living in Intensive Urban Structures
Zadražilová, Miroslava ; Urbášková, Hana (referee) ; Šimeček, Pavel (referee) ; Vitková, Lubica (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor)
As a result of changes in the society, such as the increasing mobility, increasing spatial demandindgness of inhabitants and the onset of digital technologies, the architects and urbanists have been searching for new ways of urban housing developments. One of these ways is densification, i.e. an intensive use of the urban space. An intensive urban structure uses up the potential of a place to its maximum, solves several issues simultaneously and is a functional hybrid, the home of potential suburbanizers and a place of social contacts. It comes from the efforts to solve the particular issue of an over-populated, collapsing city. The aim of the thesis is to show contemporary approaches to the issue of intensive urban structures and to map out both the built and unbuilt projects. The thesis creates a system of their categorization and taxonomy. There is always a mixture of functions in play from the functional perspective. One can distinguish five categories according to the spacial conception. These categories are as follows: multiplicity, porousness, hybridity, connectivity and verticality. The public and semi-public spaces thus move to the higher levels of the city, into the city level, urban balcony or the hybrid landscape. The built projects usually tend to be impulses, in relation to the original city, to develop and revitalize the devastated city areas, brownfields, even urban sprawls. Based on the findings of this thesis, diploma and pre-diploma project assignments have been created at the architecture department at FAST VUT in Brno and the approaches to the issue have been tested in the pedagogical process. The survey in the second part of the thesis looks for the answer to the question of whether the potential inhabitants of an intensive urban structure exist, and who these people might be.

Advanced HDR image viewer
Wirth, Michal ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Wilkie, Alexander (referee)
04.01.17 abstract.txt 1 file:///home/misa/Desktop/dp/abstract.txt The primary purpose of this thesis is to determine criteria for a high- dynamic range (HDR) image viewer accented by computer graphics artists and other users who work with HDR images produced by physically-based renderers on a daily basis. Also an overview of already existing solutions is present. Based on both of them, a new HDR viewer is designed and implemented giving an emphasis on its memory and performance efficiency. For these purposes two alternative image data layouts, Array-of-Structures (AoS) and Structure-of-Arrays (SoA), are discussed and their impact is measured on the speed of an algorithm for changing image saturation which has been selected as a representative part of whole tone mapping process of the viewer. It has turned out that the latter type of layout allows the algorithm to run about 3 times faster or more under the conditions of a defined testing environment. The thesis has two main contributions. First it gives the above users a tool which could help them when working with HDR images. Second it indicates that there may be a potential of significant speed-up of implementations of tone mapping algorithms.

CZECH NATURALISTIC RURAL DRAMA IN POSTMODERN PRODUCTIONS
Pokorný, Vít ; VEDRAL, Jan (advisor) ; FRANZ, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis analyses several plays of postmodern Czech naturalistic rural drama. By using comprehensive analysis and numerous examples, the work deals with the key question why traditional realistic dramas based on the mimetic principles are so attractive for the nonconformist and provocative authors, generally known as postmodernists. The work introduces the term postmodernism as a new philosophical way of seeing Euro-American civilization but also as an artistic style, which gives these thoughts an aesthetical basis in the context of Czech and also world history and culture. To get the essential knowledge of the topic, the main principles of realistic and naturalistic poetics are introduced. The work is trying to find an answer to the question ask above by analysing seven plays of postmodern Czech naturalistic rural drama. The analysis is based on experience of spectators and readers and also numerous examples from postmodern literature, film, fine art and music. The key factor of this analysis is the conflict of archetypal human essence and today often discussed absence of transpersonal order, which affects humans even against their will. The interpreted texts work with the topics of human struggle with love, faith, responsibility and compassion, which seem to be very attractive for the postmodern artists. These kinds of texts can give us an evidence of the epoch we live in. Whether the personal freedom ruined human faith in some greater sense or the sexual revolution actually buried the metaphysical essence of love. As an author, I came to the conclusion, that discussed plays demonstrates a postmodern human as a schizophrenic being, denying under the influence of general moral status existence of universally valid order, in spite of seeking this order in its soul desperately. Introducing my own concept of “the great second”, I try to defend my conviction, that in this exhausting struggle, the art can be for human desired, purifying and fulfilling power

Management of gray water and rain water
Kocourková, Michaela ; Synáčková, Marcela (advisor) ; Renata, Renata (referee)
Evolution and advancements of human activity is unstoppable, still we should not forget about basic natural processes which proceed no matter how man can influence them. Water is one of the main constructors of life and is necessary for function of everything live on the planet Earth. It often is categorized among the inexhaustible resources, still there lacks enough drinkable water. It is consumption grows in recent years with fast development of cities. It is the most important part of life on Earth and with urbanization and anthropogenic interference water is negatively affected and thus it is processes in nature. Interfering with water cycle makes for higher occurrences of droughts and floods, the quality of water streams suffers. Urban areas lack the surface where water could soak into the subsoil and underground water resources shrink. Through all these influences with which we affect natural water cycles the need for water and its consumption grows in our societies. For effective use of water comes up the idea of using not only the drinkable water but waste water and other types as well. Sources can be various, rain water, reused water. The focal point of this thesis is to be the impetus of discussion concerning the use of rain water and directly cleaning and reusing the water which comes straight from our homes. Rain water fills up underground water resources and also could be used in place of potable water. Substituting the potable water in activities and industries where such a high quality water is not needed and could be easily replaced with grey water. Grey water, being the waste water that comes from our bathrooms, is easily cleaned and can be used for various necessities. Current state where the potable water is used in absolute majority of human life appears to be extremely wasteful and unecological. Use of grey water and rain water is a possibility of ecological and thrifty water management which could prevent environmental damages and save water resources for the next generations.

Petrová, Michaela ; Synáčková, Marcela (advisor) ; Renata, Renata (referee)
The thesis deals with the project phase of utility services within newly built family homes. Special attention is paid to the construction of sanitary sewers, water mains and rain water management in urban areas in context of the current legislation. The paper is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first part focuses on the means and facilities of utility services and on legislation regarding their proposed design and subsequent implementation. The second part concentrates on the construction of particularly selected networks in a specific project. It involves the emerge of new locations within undeveloped areas that closely adjoin the existing community. In this area we find not only a proposed sewerage treatment for wastewater but also water lines for the newly formed 14 building plots. Special attention is paid to the management of rainwater coming from public roads and sidewalks. The construction of the proposed utilities is economically evaluated in the budget costs calculated for building construction. The conclusion of this paper concentrates on the newly formed building plots that have been pre-engineered for connection to the relevant utilities.
