The thesis is based on the statistical data and information which were offered to the author by the representatives of the Czech book market. The introductory part which marks the year 1989 as the start of the contemporary book history is followed by the characteristics of the book market structure during the years 2001 - 2010. The impact of the decisive factors, in particular the V.A.T. increase, and the new modes of reading such as electronic books ,are analysed. The thesis was complemented by the face to face interviews with two contemporary Czech authors who at this occasion presented their opinions on the latest developments of the Czech book market.

A prose Ill-used by life in the context of naturalism - a supplement of diploma thesis Juhani Aho and the analysis of his work Alone
Kimatraiová, Marika ; Lindroosová, Hilkka (referee) ; Velkoborský, Jan Petr (referee)
This ngorous thesis represents a complement of my diploma thesis, where I particularly concentrate on Finnish naturalism both at the close of the 19th century and at present. Contemporary Finnish researcher Riikka Rossi has created a model to describe late 19th-century literature in Finland. It consists of three modes of decay: dynamic, tragic and static entropy. My thesis has dealt with all these forms of naturalism. To demonstrate naturalist features in Finnish literature I ha ve choosen Aho 's pro se Maailman murjoma (Ill-used by Lije, 1894 ), which was formerly classified as a realist work. Juhani Aho was with the realists' endeavors clo sely connected: he wished to describe the reality he saw and felt faithfully and without embellishment, and he was alert to notice the changes brought by the new times - but there is also doubt whether the new is always better after all. In his work Rautatie the disappointment of the old couple leaves a melancholy aftertaste and in Maailman murjoma the railroad and the train destroy the life of a simple countryman. According to Riikka Rossi Maailman murjoma is a prototypical example of tragic entropy. Her model of entropies demonstrates that many literary works previously classified as realist can be nowadays interpreted as naturalist - Aho 's pro se Maailman murjoma...

Czech Politicians and Conflicts: 1998-2009
Šulc, František ; Drulák, Petr (advisor) ; Vieria, Sabina (referee)
This thesis applies the metaphor analysis to research how do the Czech politicians perceive foreign missions. Three conflicts are observed - the bombing of Yugoslavia and stabilization operation in Kosovo, the invasion to Afghanistan and ISAF and Enduring Freedom missions and the attack on Iraq and following reconstruction mission - and complemented by the analysis of the discussion on "war on terrorism". The analysis of the cases show which metaphors do the Czech politicians use in order to defend or reject the missions. The results of the analysis of metaphors reveals, for example, which party emphasizes close relations with NATO or, which prefers the UN etc. Additionally, while analyzing the debates within the period of 10 years, the research offers some insights regarding the changes of the main Czech parties's perceptions of each conflict and mission. The transcripts of speeches of the members of the lower chamber of parliament serve as the sources of the data. The research primarily builds on two metaphorical schemas originally brought into the field of security by Paul Chilton - LINK and CONTAINER.

Causes and Consequences of Crises on Capital Markets
Ešner, Jan ; Dvořák, Pavel (advisor) ; Votava, Libor (referee)
I decided to dedicate my thesis to current crisis and to scrutinize reasons of the current crisis initiation. There is a theoretic point of view to the current crisis, in the first paragraph. Next paragraph has been dedicated to a scrutiny one of the previous crisis -- especially economic depression of the thirties. Following part is dedicated to the comprehensive September 2008 research and to the situation graduated afterwards. Last but not least has been described the position of International Monetary Fund. Main world market indexes have been scrutinized at the very end of the thesis, data have been compared and the results have been stipulated. There has been a complement in the thesis about the possibility for future development of the situation in real economy, as well as on the financial markets.

Somatomotor and somatosensory modulation of pain in the EEG and fMR image
Vrána, Jiří ; Stančák, Andrej (advisor) ; Vymazal, Josef (referee) ; Jech, Robert (referee) ; Hájek, Milan (referee)
Pain processing is modulated at different levels of the central nervous system by concurrent sensory and motor processes. From previous studies with innocuous somatosensory evoked potentials we know of the phenomenon of gating by movement. The classical explanation [Melzack R, Wall PD. Pain mechanisms: a new theory. Science 1965;150(699):971-979.] of the mechanism of gating in the posterior horn of spinal cord is complemented by other, lesser understood data, suggesting supraspinal mechanisms. A similar lack of understanding of the cortical mechanisms is seen in pain modulating methods using concurrent electrical nerve stimulation. This work is intended to further our understanding of the cortical mechanisms of pain modulation in the specific cases of (a) isometric muscle contraction of the right or left hand during painful electrical intraepidermal stimulation of the right index finger and (b) during observation of the acute effects of concurrent innocuous median nerve stimulation on painful tonic thermal stimulation of the thenar eminence.
