Assessment of physical habitat quality as a basis for restoration of the Klíšský Brook

This bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of evaluating changes in physical habitat and possible revitalization of Klíšský stream. The bachelor's thesis uses the method of hydroecological monitoring HEM (Langhammer 2014), according to which the evaluation and presentation of the results of field research was performed. The research part of the thesis briefly summarizes the current knowledge in the field of hydromorphology. Furthermore, the research part focuses on current knowledge dealing with the evaluation of the effects of revitalization measures. The current state of the Klíšský brook is described and on the basis of the obtained data, data are collected as a basis for a possible revitalization study of selected sections of the stream. The negative anthropogenic influences acting on the given locality are also summarized. The performed hydromorphological survey and further analyzes are the basis material for further preparation of individual complex revitalization measures. Assessment of anthropogenic modification of the river network using hydromorphological survey as an example of the upper Metuje River

Human modifications and related pressure on watercourses of its ecosystem became greatly discussed problematic in the latest dry years. The translated bachelor's thesis deals with these encroachments on watercourses as well as with its impact on hydromorphological quality. In recherché there are discussed basic hydromorphological knowledge and modifications of watercourses with its negative and positive effects on the watercourse along with its surrounding. For the evaluation of the hydromorphological condition was used HEM methodology (Langhammer 2014) applied on upper course of the Metuje River. Overall, based on the outcome of the HEM methodology the upper stream of the Metuje River is evaluated as a weakly modified. Less disturbed sections can be found in the area of the National Nature Reserve Adršpašsko-Teplické skály. The largest modifications can be seen in the build-up areas of Teplice nad Metují, where these modifications come particularly from the period of the First Republic. The area of the floodplain, is the most affected area. Trace of the rivercourse was overall shorted by 1 569 meters, therefore 7,5 % since mid-19th century, chiefly in the surrounding of Teplice nad Metují. Hydromorphological monitoring of small water course and possibilities of its improvement

This bachelor’s thesis deals with hydro-ecological monitoring of watercourses according to requirements of the European Water Framework Directive with using methodology type-specific evaluation of hydromorphological indicators of ecological quality of watercourses (HEM 2014). The practical part deals with the given watercourse according to the already mentioned methodology and for selected parts are made proposals to improve its overall state. Hydromorphology as a component part of ecological condition of water bodies

Today, the study of fluvial-morphological processes is focused on evaluating hydromorfological status of streams and on proposing restoration measures. A fundamental prerequisite for assessing the current hydromorphological status of streams is establishing reference conditions for each stream type that serve as a benchmark and represent the target status after restoration. The aim of this thesis is to describe type-specific hydromorphological reference conditions for rivers on the territory of the Czech Republic with the help of determining river types, developing the REFCON method for establishing reference sites and recording characteristics of reference status. The approach to establishing reference sites is based on meeting the criteria of having minimal anthropogenic impact that are first assessed using cartographic data and subsequently verified through field survey. Parameters - altitude, sinuosity, and valley floor slope - for classifying river reaches into types were determined on the basis of the results of statistical methods applied on 3197 river reaches covering the whole territory of the Czech Republic. Assessment of river restoration effects based on hydromorphology

In the field of river restorations, topics being currently discussed are assessing success and quantifying effects that river restoration measures should have. This bachelor thesis deals with an assessment of the river restoration effects based on the hydromorphology. Current knowledge in fields of hydromorphology and fluvial geomorphology are presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. Recent outcomes and methodical procedures that are used to evaluate the effects of river restoration measures are also included. A method was developed based on the theoretical part of this thesis and the method EcoRivHab in order to assess the restoration effects by selected parametres. The method was applied on the restored segment of Litovický stream in Hostivice town in the practical part. The results of the thesis showed what a significant impact the restoration had on Litovický stream (in average +33.74 %). The parameter maximum flow velocity showed the highest effect (+84.9 %). Retention capacity of flood plain and alternative flood protection in the Berounka River catchment.

This thesis deals with the retention capacity of Berounka during the hydrological extremes. Flood prevention and flood condition are main subjects of this thesis. Two selected river areas of Berounka are analysed by the passive retention volume and by the transformation of the flood wave. The first area is situated on the lower course of Berounka near the Černošice, and this area is significantly anthropogenically influenced. The second area which has nature character is located on the middle course of Berounka near Křivoklát. This thesis contains an evaluation of the hydromorphological state of flow in both areas. The results of passive retention indicate negligible influence of the flood situations. 1D hydraulic model HEC-RAS displays the transformation of the flood wave. The results of the transformation are flow velocity and depths of the river valley in 100-year-old and 20-year-old flows. The transformation of the flood wave in the first area is on the minimum level and did not reach its potential retention capability. The culmination flow in the second area is reduced because of a geomorphological shape of the river. Moreover, the near natural flood protection precautions are proposed in this thesis. Impact of habitat diversity and wood debris accumulation on macroinvertebrates

The revitalization of watercourses should be amended to restore the natural landscape water regime. Healthly waterflow should contain a morphologically rich bed with added dead wood and alternating pools and riffle. All these structures are colonized by varied fauna, that is distributed according to its dietary requirements. These problems are devoted to the research part of work. Another part is focused on the research of three tributaries in the upper basin of Blanice river near Prachatice. The location is thanks to the population of the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera), significant not only in Czech but also in european scale. Therefore, there is an important aspect of environmental protection. Given the importance of the site, there are experimental research carried out by Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology at the Faculty of Charles University in Prague. The practical part is based on the determination of macroinvertebrates revitalized Sviňovického brook and the subsequent evaluation of water quality. Samples of macroinvertebrate were collected using method PERLA and subsequently identified in families. For use BMWP score and ASPT index, the quality of water placed in the appropriate category of water quality.
Assessment of physical river habitat diversity of streams. Application in experimental catchments of upper Blanice River.

The subject of bachelor thesis was to evaluate the diversity of physical habitat, using three methods of hydromorphological survey. Methodologies with different approaches of evaluation have been applied to model basin Sviňovický stream. Detailed assessment describes the downstream changes in individual characteristics. River basin represents a contrast between the upper stream, which is completely anthropogenically influenced and lower stream which is after restoration. The thesis presents the result of a field survey of different methodologies and evaluates the diversity of habitat in different flow conditions. The results of all three approaches are confirmation of positive impact of restoration to the habitat quality and especially the requirement to modify each methodology to local conditions. Longitudinal development of selected hydromorphological parameters have been observed.
Hydromorphological survey as a basis for restoration measures. Case study of the Rakovnik Brook catchment.

This thesis deals with use of hydromorphological assessment methods and the application of the Hydroecological monitoring HEM (Langhammer, 2007, 2013) method in the model basin of lower part of Rakovnický potok stream. This thesis presents results of the terrain survey and based on this results, the parts with poor ecomorphological conditions should be identified and restoration measures should be suggested to improve the hydromorphological quality and physical habitat of Rakovnický potok stream. This stream represents both almost natural parts of the catchment in Křivoklátsko Landscape Protected Area as well as parts which are influenced by human activities, especially by the agriculture and the industry. Due to the results of applied terrain survey and literature research, it was suggested to apply complex restoration in the whole area of Rakovnický potok basin immediately.
Definition of reference conditions of mountain and submountain streams as a part of ecological survey

The present thesis deals with the definition of reference conditions of mountain and submountains streams in selected European countries and on the requirements of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC. Here is presented the Typology of watercourses of Czech Republic and the delimitation of mountain and submountains types in selected locations in the Ore Mountains and the Bohemian Forest. In the second part of the work is solved hydromorphological status of watercourses. Monitoring was conducted on streams Rolava, Černá voda, Křemelná, Slatinný p., Modravský p., Roklanský p. and Javoří p. To evaluate the degree of hydromorphological quality was used Hydroecological monitoring method. The thesis includes a brief assessment of physical-geographic characteristics mentioned flows with emphasis on the runoff regime in their basins. In conclusion, there are identified and defined reference parts of streams and their characteristics.
