The attitude of nursing branch students at South Bohemia University - Health Care and Social Studies Faculty to paliative care.
MAŠKOVÁ, Vlasta
Thesis title: Approach to palliative care among nursing care students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the South Bohemian University. This bachelor thesis is dedicated to students undergoing their practical training in St. Jan Nepomuk Neumann Hospice in Prachatice. I decided to choose this topic for several reasons. Hospices are often discussed nowadays, they are massively publicized and numerous charity events are held for hospices. Nevertheless people do not have confidence in hospices, they are afraid of them. This might be the first reason. The other one is my own experience with students coming to the hospice for their practical training. I work in the hospice as a ward sister and am in everyday contact with the students. Unfortunately most of the students are persuaded at the beginning of their training that death comes every day to this ?house?. They have fear and cannot imagine how to cope with this situation during a fortnight stay?! The aim of our research was to find out whether the present studies influence the attitudes to the incurably ill among the students. Whether their attitudes change after the theoretical and practical training. We set two basic questions to reach the goal. 1: How does theoretical schooling of palliative care influence the attitudes of students to the care for the incurably ill in the hospice? 2: How does practical training of palliative care influence the attitudes of students to the care for the incurably ill in the hospice? The research was implemented in two phases: before the start of theoretical schooling of palliative care and after the practical training in the hospice. We used the experiment method; a deep interview with student was the questioning technique. The research sample consisted of 5 full-time students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the South Bohemian University, specialization of general nurse. After processing the responses we found out that the attitude to the care for the dying had not changed a lot after theoretical schooling. The students feel lack of theoretical information that would help them eliminate the fear of unknown situation, fear of pain, fear of everyday confrontation with death and dying people. They also do not feel prepared for communication with the close relatives of the dying people. They are convinced that there is not enough time for such a complicated topic like care for incurably ill people in the schooling. Practical training in the hospice changes the attitudes of the students to the incurably ill. They were provided more information on the palliative-hospice care. They assess their own attitudes to the care of the terminally ill more positively and they no longer talk about fear and uncertainty. They would like to have more personal experience with communication with the patients and their families. The goal of the research was met. The present studies do influence students? attitudes to palliative care of the incurably ill in a hospice. However the fear of this not really new field still prevails. Changes only occur after practical training. The research results may be used for grasping the students? feelings, for possible modification of the didactics and methodology of theoretical and practical training in palliative care. The elaborated informational brochure might also help students choose practical placement and make the start of the practical training in an inpatient hospice easier.
The attitude of university students to future family and parenting
VALVODOVÁ, Jana
In the 90s of the last century there was a great transformation in family behaviour in the Czech Republic. Values and value orientation changed and so did the attitude towards the traditional division of roles in the family. Young people have a lot of possibilities related to their career and lifestyle (singles), which do not always correspond with a traditional form of life together (marriage). The aim of the Bachelor´s thesis was to find out the attitude of students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice towards the institute of marriage and parenting. A partial aim was to discover whether the students prefer marriage or alternative forms of life together and their view of family and professional life, division of roles of a man and woman in a family and their attitudes towards parenting. The theoretical part includes the description of problems of a family, marriage and parenting. I also deal with the roles of a man-father, woman-mother, university education, employment of women and dual-career marriages. I got this information through a content analysis of secondary data. The research part was carried out in the form of quantitative examination. The data were acquired through the method of questioning, the technique of questionnaire. The research results suggest that the institutes of family and marriage are still very important for the university students. The vast majority of the university students want to live in a marriage. However, most of them prefer to get married after a certain period of life together. Having finished their bachelor´s degree, the students largely give priority to go on to study for a master´s degree before they establish a family. Most of the students plan to be married with two children, with the first child being born after they finish their studies or even longer. The research results bring information on future family behaviour of university students and their attitudes towards further studies. The results may serve as a basis for next research related to behaviour of present university students after they finish studying.
Awareness and attitudes of Mydlovary residents resulting from risks of radioactivity leak from the former uranium ore processing plant MAPE Mydlovary
HUSOVÁ, Iva
In South Bohemia, near the Czech town of České Budějovice, in close vicinity of municipalities of Mydlovary, Nákří, Olešník, Zahájí and Dívčice, there are 286 ha of uranium tailings impoundments, along with the former uranium ore processing plant known as MAPE Mydlovary. Althought this company terminated its operation in 1991, significant tailings impoundments contaminants, such as dust, radon emissions and gamma radiation are being found here. Nevertheless, radon emissions still represent a risk to the population in the neighborhood and airborne radon poses a risk also to other areas. Therefore, residents in a wide neighbourhood have long been loaded with increased doses of radiation. The thesis deals with negative consequences of the former uranium ore processing plant MAPE Mydlovary on human health and also describes the process of clearing works in progress in the locality. In this thesis, the level of awareness of Mydlovary residents, their opinions and attitudes to the damaged area are also mentioned. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused first on a brief description and history of the former uranium ore plant, the consequences of the MAPE Mydlovary activities and associated risks (e.g. higher doses of radon), which put inhabitants of nearby villages under threat. The next section provides information on the residents´ attitudes to decontamination works performed at the site and associated problems. The practical part of this thesis is devoted to the research, the aim was to determine if and to what extent Mydlovary residents are aware of the potential damage to land, water, air, and a possible negative impact on their health. The research also provides information on the residents´ attitudes to decontamination works at the site and about the preferred usage of the damaged area after decontamination is completed. The research was conducted by addressing 73 residents of Mydlovary in the period from January to March 2010. The results prove a relatively high awareness of Mydlovary residents about negative effects of radioactive substances and hazardous contaminants on their health, and also point to a lack of the respondents´ awareness about decontamination works and outline the current worries of Mydlovary residents.
Positions and prejudices of publicity to criminality commiting by extremists
NOVÝ, Vít
The major subject of this graduation thesis is political extremism in its basic forms. In the theoretical part the author focuses in particular on division of political extremism and description of individual extremists groups. He also addresses criminal activities committed by extremists. Large attention is paid mainly to racially motivated criminality. The main objective of this graduation thesis is to ascertain the opinions of two different target groups on the extremist movements and the forms of criminal activities committed by them. The first group of informants consists of people who were brought up in the time of totalitarian regime. The second group of informants is made up of people who were brought up after the revolution in 1989. The output should be the comparison of the opinions, positions and prejudices of these two groups of informants in respect of extremists and their activities. In the practical part the qualitative research method is used. In order to collect the information, the author used the method of phenomenological interviews that were structured and prepared beforehand. The informants were people living in České Budějovice or its close surroundings. Their number and selection was purposeful to secure equal representation of men and women so that the data contain the opinions of both these groups.
An attitude of single young women to an institution of the marriage and the parenthood
CIPÍNOVÁ, Dagmar
The issue of marriage and partnership seems to be a rather hot topic considering the number of trial marriages, incomplete families or postponed parenthoods. My baccalaureate work deals with a research in the views and attitudes of nowaday´s young single women to the issues of marriage and parenthood. The information for my baccalaureate work has been acquired using content analysis of secondary data. Quantitative research has been selected for the monitoring of attitudes related to the work´s objectives as well as for the purposes of hypotheses testing. The data collection has been based on the method of interview and the questionnaire technique, the questionnaires containing 26 questions each. In total, one-hundred and forty questionnaires (100 %) have been distributed, one-hundred and five of them (75 %) being fully completed and usable for the research purposes. The questionnaire research was carried out in February and March 2009. The questionnaires were anonymous, pre-tested on a sample of respondents within a preliminary research. The questionnaire technique was designed in order to obtain primary data on the target population selected by random choice among young single women living in the District of České Budějovice, the only precondition being that the research was focussed exclusively on single and childless women. Two of the three determined hypotheses could not be confirmed. The research results have shown that the majority of young women wish to live and obviously will live in a marriage, even if after the lapse of a certain period of trial marriage. Concluding an official marriage or entering into the trial marriage relationship are not predominantly dependent of the level of the education achieved, whereas the length of studies or professional training may play a certain role. As far as starting a family is concerned, marriage does not pose an essential pre-condition of triggering the wish in a young woman to have a baby. The research has further confirmed the current trend of postponing marriages into a higher age as well as the rising age of women giving birth to their first baby. The results of the presented work reflect the current situation in the attitudes of young single women to the institutions of marriage and parenthood. They present a valuable source of information related to family planning and reproductive behaviour. They may also serve for the purposes of further studies in this field or may be applied as study material within programmes focussed on the given issue.
