Methodology of development and deployment of Business Intelligence solutions in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises
Rydzi, Daniel ; Jandoš, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vlček, Radim (referee) ; Slánský, David (referee)
Dissertation thesis deals with development and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) in the Czech Republic. This thesis represents climax of author's up to now effort that has been put into completing a methodological model for development of this kind of applications for SMEs using self-owned skills and minimum of external resources and costs. This thesis can be divided into five major parts. First part that describes used technologies is divided into two chapters. First chapter describes contemporary state of Business Intelligence concept and it also contains original taxonomy of Business Intelligence solutions. Second chapter describes two Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) techniques that were used for building those BI solutions that are introduced in case studies. Second part describes the area of Czech SMEs, which is an environment where the thesis was written and which it is meant to contribute to. This environment is represented by one chapter that defines the differences of SMEs against large corporations. Furthermore, there are author's reasons why he is personally focusing on this area explained. Third major part introduces the results of survey that was conducted among Czech SMEs with support of Department of Information Technologies of Faculty of Informatics and Statistics of University of Economics in Prague. This survey had three objectives. First one was to map the readiness of Czech SMEs for BI solutions development and deployment. Second was to determine major problems and consequent decisions of Czech SMEs that could be supported by BI solutions and the third objective was to determine top factors preventing SMEs from developing and deploying BI solutions. Fourth part of the thesis is also the core one. In two chapters there is the original Methodology for development and deployment of BI solutions by SMEs described as well as other methodologies that were studied. Original methodology is partly based on famous CRISP-DM methodology. Finally, last part describes particular company that has become a testing ground for author's theories and that supports his research. In further chapters it introduces case-studies of development and deployment of those BI solutions in this company, that were build using contemporary BI and KDD techniques with respect to original methodology. In that sense, these case-studies verified theoretical methodology in real use.
Use of MS EXCEL for analyzing data from OLAP databases

The goal is to set the basic definition of the relationship between ERP and Business Intelligence systems, further defining the possibilities of MS Dynamics AX in BI in the terms of their practical use and also to describe the fundamental technological aspects. The aim of the work is evaluation and definition particular steps during implementation based on methodology MS Sure Step 2010 together with description of deployment process. As a reflection of insufficient coverage of some of the areas is mentioned solution of the company Circon Circle Consulting. Also is realized proposal for BI for AX cost accounting module, including designing data mart, ETL and report with respect to specifics, such as the parent-child hierarchies and many-to-many relationship between fact tables and dimensions. The contribution of this work is mainly evident for the consultants of the system, to who is provided insight into the important and for users attractive functionality and also is offered possible implementation process. Technically oriented readers may appreciate the solutions for Cost Accounting and potential approaches to the concept of data mart or other areas where they meet the above-mentioned aspects.

Implementace BI ve firmě Haguess a.s.
Bendák, Martin ; Novotný, Ota (advisor) ; Bláha, Jiří (referee)
The subject of this thesis is a pilot project of the implementation of the BI (Business Intelligence) solution in the company Haguess, a. s. The project is concerned with the analyses of data stored in a database -- DataBase Management System (DBMS) -- which is used as a data source by the web application Customer Support Center (CSC). Haguess primarily uses CSC as a helpdesk for its clients and partners, but also uses it for internal purposes. The main use of the CSC application is to support information systems delivered by Haguess. There were two motives for the choice of this subject: BI software tools had not previously been used by Haguess, and the company management was keen to get data analyses from the CSC application. That's why I decided to do these analyses. My goal was to create a practically useful solution which would be an incentive for Haguess to use BI software tools for other purposes. This thesis has two main goals. The first one is the realisation of the pilot BI solution, which would outline the possibilities for analysis of data from the CSC application using BI software tools. This involved the following activities: multidimensional analysis and BI solution design -- i.e. design of data pipelines, OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing) cube/cubes, and user tools in MS Excel calculator. The second goal was to select the proper software tools for a future complex realisation and running of the BI solution. The first objective was achieved by doing the following: proper analysis of the CSC application data model, definition of user requests for output analysis and its comparison with the data model analysis. Based on this comparison, the basic subjects of output analyses were determined. These basic subjects were the starting point for the implementation of the BI solution. The second objective was achieved as follows: on the basis of the implementation results, basic demands (criteria) for BI software tools features were determined, bearing in mind the possible future complex realisation and running of a BI solution. Research determined which BI software tools were available on the market. The most suitable BI software tool was selected following a comparison of available options, and the criteria mentioned above. The primary outcome of this thesis is the creation of a practically usable BI solution.
