A neuroprotective effect of the 3α5β-pregnanolon glutamate in the animal model of ischemic brain injury
Kletečková, Lenka ; Valeš, Karel (advisor) ; Zach, Petr (referee)
The neuroactive steroid 3α5β-pregnanolon glutamate (3α5βP-Glu) is the synthetic analogue of a naturally-occurring 3α5β-pregnanolon sulfate. Both agents inhibit preferentially tonically activated NMDA receptors by a use-dependent mechanism. The aplication of 3α5βP-Glu could reduce the excitotoxic injury of the brain during ischemic conditions, in which plays role the excessive activation of NMDA receptors. The objectives of this study are to determine the effect of systemic aplication of 3α5βP-Glu on an oxygen saturation and a regional cerebral blood flow in the brain of laboratory rat. Subsequently to establish and critically evaluate the animal model of a global ischemic brain injury. Finally to test the neuroprotective potential of 3α5βP-Glu on cognitive funtions in this model. The oxygen saturation and regional cerebral blood flow were measured in the area of dorsal hippocampus. Both observed parametres were significantly increased after the application of3α5βP-Glu. These findings confirm the assumption that 3α5βP-Glu has a neuroprotective effect. The bilateral occlusions of arteriae carotis communis following placement of the rat into a hypoxic box has been utilized as a model of global ischemic brain injury. The aplication of 3α5βP-Glu increased significantly the rats survival. However,...

This Rigorous Thesis concerns the problems with the natural opium abuse in the region of Central Moravia. It is based on the questionnaire analyses, which were held in The Contact Centre Plus in Kroměříž and in The Contact Centre Kappa in Přerov in the period from June to August 2007. Further the results of Diploma Thesis The Questionnaire Analysis of Natural Opium Abuse in Olomouc and Prostějov Region, from the year 2007, are used in this work. The results of the Diploma Thesis come from the questionnaire analysis, which was held in The Contact Centre Walhalla in Olomouc and in The Contact Centre Želva in Prostějov in the period from May to July 2006. 71 clients from all mentioned contact centres took part in this resarch (22 from Kroměříž, 17 from Přerov, 20 from Olomouc and 12 from Prostějov). ). All the results from the Contact Centres Walhalla and Želva are written in the above mentioned Diploma Thesis. Only those clients with the experience of opium abuse were added to the group of respondents. After having analysed the results from all the four centres, we found that the average age of Kroměříž (KM) users is 26,4 years, of Přerov (PŘ) users it is 28,8 years, of Olomouc (OL) users 25,6 years and of Prostějov (PV) users it is 24,4 years. More than a half of all the clients from the centres are...

The settlements and agriculture of the margins in the later middle age and early new age
Klír, Tomáš ; Klápště, Jan (advisor) ; Petráň, Josef (referee) ; Smetánka, Zdeněk (referee)
This doctoral thesis presents the study of the rural milieu in the Later Middle Ages and the Early New Ages, especially with regard to its economic and settlement aspects. As a useful source of specific information we chose enclaves of margins since they are connected with contrasting settlement situation. This contrast served us well as a starting point for a discussion of more general features. The dissertation is divided into four parts. The first part deals with general problems of intensive agricultural exploitation of margins. In the second part, we bring forward a concrete example and discuss agricultural systems, which were employed on the enclave from the Early New Ages, namely, on the aeolian sands near Sadská (Central Bohemia). The third part is devoted to the beginnings of the medieval settlements in this particular region. This part of our research we based on written sources. The subject of the fourth part is the analysis of all relief remains represented by the deserted medieval village Kří (near Sadská) situated on the aeolian sands. It was this deserted village, together with the interest in relief remains of medieval settlements hitherto preserved in the landscape, that gave incentive to write this dissertation. The broader temporal range of the topic was determined by two facts. Firstly,...

Eating habits of patients with metabolic syndrome
NOVÁČKOVÁ, Anna
Metabolic syndrome (syndrome X, Reaven's syndrome) is frequently occurring disease in Czech Republic. The diagnosis often detected only separated parts of metabolic syndrome which are usually not connected with complex of MS. Medical conditions co-occurred within this syndrome are following: elevated fasting plasma glucose (insulinoresistance), abdominal (central) obesity (women waistline > 88 cm, men waistline > 102 cm), elevated blood pressure, high serum triglycerides (> 1,7 mmol/l), and low high-density cholesterol (HDL) levels (women 1,25 mmol/l, men 1,0 mmol/l). The incidence of MS can be divided into the prevalence of MS itself (this correspond with 30%) and the prevalence of each individual part of MS which correspond with 80% population. The most frequently reasons of MS are so called environmental impacts as e.g. central obesity, insulinoresustance syndrome, fatty liver, systemic inflammation, intestinal alterations, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, foetal malnutrition, low basal energetic outcome, sleep apnoea syndrome, changes of gut flora, hyperglycaemia and cumulation of visceral fat. This bachelor´s work is concerned with eating habits, life style and other factors which could be reason of described metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study is evaluation of eating habits and life style of patients suffered from MS before syndrome outbreak, as well as participation of obesity in MS outbreak assessment. Two explorative questions were formulated on the basis of described goals: First research question: Did the MS patients follow principles of healthy eating before syndrome outbreak? Second research question: Does obesity have a significant effect on MS outbreak? Definition and characterization of MS in relation to diet is described in theoretical part of my work as well as explanation for reasons of MS outbreak, descriptions of each separated diseases of MS complex and their treatment. Metabolic syndrome in connection with obesity and its classification into each level is defined inthis part. Obesity treatment together with prevention and treatment of MS are suggested in terminal part of this section. In practical part of work, the results of own research are presented. This section is focused on: 5. evaluation of eating habits before MS outbreak; 6. obesity incidence in MS patients; 7. patient´s life style; 8. the presence of individual diseases participate in MS. Research part of my bachelor´s work is prepared with using of quantitative assessment, which was done by questionnaire investigation in southbohemian and westbohemian region. Research population consists of thirty gender-nonspecific and age various patients diagnosed as having MS. The research questions were focused on mapping of respondent´s eating habits, life style (smoking, movement activity, daily eating portions and breakfast regularity), previous and current illnesses as well as diseases of respondent´s relations. The aim of described investigation was evaluation of obesity, life style and diet participations in MS outbreak. The results did not prove observance of healthy eating principles in MS patients before and after syndrome outbreak, while most of respondents were overweight or obesity. It can be assumed that genetic predispositions play role in MS outbreak. Additionally, very interesting is detected occurrence of MS in many individuals younger then forty years old. The present work extended the knowledge about risk factors of MS outbreak together with eating habits, obesity and MS outbreak connections. When reasons of MS seem to be more clear, it is easier to establish new more effective prevention. On the basis of the results, it can be arranged diet suggestions useable as effective prevention of MS outbreak.

The Precautionary Principle and Risk-Management in Environmental Decision-Making
Flegler, Anna ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; Přikryl, Pavel (referee)
Alaska, more than any other state in the US, has a history of natural resource dependency that is unequalled in any other state. This dependency on raw natural resources as the main driver for the economy has persisted to current times. In addition to the economic importance of natural resources, usage of the ecosystem and the benefits it provides are an important part of the survival, culture and economic well-being of the rural population. Bristol Bay has a special role in Alaska based on its abundance of salmon, which bring tourists and industry to the region and provide its main source of income. Recently, the mining industry has taken an interest in the region and its numerous natural resources. Concern has been expressed by both the existing fishing and tourism industries as well as the general population of the region as to the effects that mining activities would have on the region's ecosystem and fish and wildlife populations on which they are dependant. The current permitting system has been criticized for being too lenient and biased in favor of the mining companies. This has been attributed to changes in the competences assigned to different agencies from 2002-2005. The large mine permit team has the job of analyzing the data funded by the Pebble Partnership associated with the various state...

EU energy policy towards a region of the Caspian Sea
Aulická, Michala ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Buryan, Šimon (referee)
The main factor of prosperity of energy resources is to find reliable access. The always increasing demand for energy resources and population increase make big uncertainty in energy and economic security. Europe Union does not have much of their own energy resources and therefore is forced to import these. At the moment Russia is the main key partner in providing oil and gas, with this dependency on Russia we can see security risks leading to energy instability. Europe Union is actively trying to eliminate this dependency and trying to diverse and find new suppliers and new transit routes. The region around Caspian Sea might be alternative for securing supplies of oil and gas. The fundamental part of this bachelor thesis is to analyse economic utility and energy potential in Caspian Sea region and also is going to evaluate the activity of EU towards this region with purpose to establish new transit routes and by doing this to eliminate EU dependency on Russia and its associated risks.
