Noncast television : downloaded TV series and their viewers
Chudoba, David ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Dominik, Šimon (referee)
Television viewers have no material control over the broadcast program. They cannot choose the time, when they will watch selected program that is under the command of the broadcasters. Television serial is the most asymmetric form. Every episode of the given serial promotes the next one and provides audience in advance. It is very interesting to find out, how people, who download serials, treat them. They can watch the serials, how they want. Presented work, through the qualitative analysis of the interviews with people, who watch downloaded shows, inquires whether the material control over the program sequence is the main and only motive for downloading, and also how these persons use the serials and how they communicate about them. The results and conclusions are compared with an inquiry about the respondents' way of (present or previous) watching TV (and especially serials).

Construction of a gag in the works of Monty Python
Sláma, Matěj ; DUFEK, Jiří (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
The goal of this thesis is analysis of Monty Python’s comic. I do analyse the functionality from the dramaturgical point of view on the one hand and the formal structure on the other hand, that is slightly different in the film production and in the TV production. I am focusing on the gag structure, following the tradition of the mute slapstick comedy, where you can also see their specific point of view of this film genre. Gag is the smallest part of this genre. In the first part of my thesis, there is an analysis of the gag principle in general, in the second part I compare how is this British humour group working with gag and I illustrate it on the examples from the TV serial and from the movie. From the analysis, I realized that it’s not the absence of the point, but the distancing effect, what makes Monty Python’s gag so original.

Sedláčková, Dagmar ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; TOMEK, Ivan (referee)
Marketing research in audiovisual production: pretesting of television pilots" aims to describe processes behind the creative portion of quality TV program creation. TV stations often use so-called pre-testing in order to find out, based on a small number of viewers, whether the show will meet the station's demands and gain commercial success. The thesis analyzes whether pretesting might be a powerful tool to positively influence future success of a TV show. In individual chapters of the paper, the hypothesis is being proven or disproven, depending on factual examples and partial analyses.
Actor's character at theatre and film/TV - tools and creative process
Josefíková, Eva ; SALZMANNOVÁ, Eva (advisor) ; MRKVIČKA, Ladislav (referee)
The goal of the thesis set by a student is to summarize her studies at DAMU as well as to reflect her later experience of hosting in professional theatres and short engagement in Kladno theatre. Appearance in front of the camera is addressed as well. The thesis describes the school dramatic seminars, stage or film and television projects, which helped to change her reasoning about the work as an actor. These projects taught her new processes and allowed her to professionally evolve. Based on this experience, she tries to find and define mainly the common ground for both disciplines, what resources do they require and in which way they can influence each other. Considering the fact that acting in front of the camera is not being taught at DAMU, she describes her search by trial and error, or rather by collecting and improving her experience from one project to the next. Her findings are supported by citations from foreign literature on film acting, so far not published in Czech Republic. Quotes are therefore her own translation.
