Two faces of ZOO Perception of zoos from the view of their supporters and opponents The main topic of this thesis is a role of zoological gardens in the modern society, especially their importance to conservation of biodiversity as well as to progress in public education. I was interested not only in the opinions and the attitudes of the supporters of zoological gardens, but also in views of their opponents as the opposite side. In the case of the opponents I wanted to reveal if their criticism of zoos is based on negative emotions (bad feeling from breeding animals in captivity and thinking about their rights to freedom) or rise from real inadequacies (for example bad living conditions of animals). So in the theoretical part of the thesis I was concerned about contributions of zoological gardens in many ways as well as about their limitations, mostly mentioned by their opponents. To be more precise in drawing conclusions I made my own empirical research which was based on questionnaires and interviews with directors of certain zoos in the Czech Republic. The main aim of my research was not only a usual opinion poll, but also a detection of differences in opinions and personal characteristics between supporters and opponents of zoos. The first part of the bachelor thesis is dedicated to the biography, public life and literary work of Sofie Podlipská. The second part introduces an analysis of the work Horymír Neumětelský. The main focus of the first part is Podlipská?s life, her activities in women's organizations and the role she played in the education of women. The thesis also presents the literary lifework that consists of not only short stories, novels, novellas, but also lectures, puppet plays and translations. A chapter devoted to the realism, realistic novel and the development of the cultural life in the ?60s is also included as well as a chapter about the influence of Podlipská on other authors. In the second part the short story Horymír Neumětelský, which elaborates the motive known from Ancient Bohemian Legends (Staré pověsti české), is analysed.

Modely financování školství a jejich vliv na výsledky studentů

This thesis focuses on the influence of private enrolment in OECD countries on education performance exhibited by students. In my work I analyse panel data portraying annual status of economy and education system in 34 OECD countries from 2000 till 2014. In the first part, I present the historical evolution of the approach to education in terms of public and private goods, in the second part, I provide an overview of related literature that provides a cornerstone for my practical part. In my practical part, I investigate the influence of economic background of OECD countries, educational system and rate of private enrolment on students´ performance. The conclusion of my models did not confirm my hypothesis of beneficial influence of private enrolment on performance. Private enrolment is insignificant in majority of models. Reasoning for this phenomenon may be different approach of students to private education. In some countries, private institutions are perceived as complement and in some as a substitute to good cognitive abilities.
