Lost in Translation - Comparison of Czech translations of The Da Vinci Code

Bachelor thesis describes the problems of translation experience which are then specified and analyzed in text translation of the novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. It focuses mainly on proper names, anagrams, puzzles, riddles and puns, substitutions, terms, idioms, neologisms, supplemented by information beyond the original, omissions from original text, units conversions, cultural differences, formality and informality and last but not least, the mistakes in translation.

Declension of masculine nouns ending with "ambiguous" consonants in contemporary Czech

The thesis attemps to map the current situation of the variance process in masculines ended with epicene consonants -s and -z. Based on the description of the situation presented in language guides approximately since 1950s and with the help of Retrográdní slovník současné češtiny, the authoress compiled a list of masculines with this type of ending and afterwards she verified each noun via corpus databáze ČNK syn2010. To komplete the corpus results the authoress used the questionary survey on selected nouns. From acquired data there was set together a summary which should describe the current situation of this variance in these nouns.

Missale Posoniense I. - diplomatic edition

Mgr. et Mgr. Adam SÝKORA: Missale Posoniense I. - diplomatic edition (rigorous thesis), Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Catholic Theology, 2011. In the present thesis the author provides a diplomatic edition of one of the oldest collegial missals of Bratislava Chapter House: Missale Posoniense I. It is a central source of European significance, which is pattern normative and representative in relation to the similar landmarks (eg Missale Posoniense A, B, C, II., III., IV.), and which was used in the Bratislava Chapter House before 1341st. The text of this Missal was previously published only in facsimile form, which bears the technical limitations of the period of its creation. Since that time, other foils have been discovered that have not been published at all. Professional public now has the text, with which can work effectively, moreover, it paves the way for a critical edition of the full text of the preserved parts, which the author intends to publish as dissertation. This work is concerned with common questions of linguistic discipline of onomatology. It is divided into three sections. The theoretical division is concerned with onomastica as a branch of science, its history and personages, fundamental dividing. In the second section it applies to female and male names, which have the most bearers. Illumination of their origin and meaning. The third section compares the new-born names in decennium 2002 - 2012. Illumination of their origin and meaning too. It uses data resources obtained by Czech Statistical Office.
