Ayahuasca neo-shamanic habitus in Czech Republic or what one has to do for becoming an ayahuasca neo-shaman

This diploma thesis deals with what one must do in order to become an ayahuasca neo-shaman, or what specific ayahuasca neo-shaman habitus one must acquire in order to be considered a neo-shaman and to be able to perform ayahuasca rituals. For this the author used methods of carnal ethnography and autoetnography. Ayahuasca rituals are embedded in a broader anthropological theory of rites of passage and are examined in the framework of carnal ethnography by the method of observed participation, while semi-structured interviews with neo-shamans are used also. As part of the autoetnography, the author experienced a neo-shaman habitus on himself, which allowed him to easily look into the otherwise non-transferable structure of the neo-shaman habitus. This research has shown that there are three key parts for the ayahuasca neo-shaman habitus, ie the "ecstatic", "didactic" and "material", but their forms are different for each neo-shaman, due to their specific life trajectories. The resulting ritual is then the product of the specific bricolage of each neo-shaman and mixes elements and techniques of different traditions and cultures. Liminality in modern society: Erasmus as a Rite de Passage

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of liminality in modern rites of passage which are represented here by the Erasmus+ programme. It looks at how some of its aspects differ from the liminal phase of ritual as described by Victor Turner. The work is based on research that took place during five-months studies at KTU (Kaunas University of Technology) in Lithuania within the frame of Erasmus study programme. The data was obtained through participant observation and also nine semi-structured interviews with other program participants. The research discovered that a change in liminal characteristics in modern rites of passage occurs through the globalization process. The thesis deals in detail with individual phenomena connected with the process of globalization. One of them is, for example, the development of modern technologies, which results in loosening of isolation of liminal persons and it also allows them to maintain contact with their home and the original structure. Another point is the reduction of space-time distances and the simplification of mobility, which also increases the sense of detachment from the structure of the society in which these liminal persons are located. Birth as an extreme life situations and rituals associated with it

The thesis deals with rituals connected to the period of birth as a vital life situation, comperison of the rituals in archaic and traditional societies. Second line of the thesis follows new parental role adaptation and its further development. First chapter deals with ritual, its mening, its division and rites of passage. Second chapter describes vital life situation. In the third, fourth and fifth chapter period of pregnancy, givingbirth, birth and childbed are separately described. Separate phases are described in details and compered in context of archaic and traditional societies to examples of rituals typical for the particular phase.

Rites of passage as a theme in the history textbooks

The intention of the Diploma thesis Rites of passage as a theme in the history textbooks is analyze the history textbooks of upper primary school in terms of rites of passage. This practical part is preceded by general introduction to the issue of rituals and rites of passage. The following is a discussion of selected rites of passage, which are weddings and funerals. Selected rites of passage determine the direction which is going analysis itself textbooks. In general I am interested in themes of weddings, funerals and all other facts that are associated with the issue in analyzing textbooks. Then I find out, how and what extent selected rites of passage are presented to pupils. So that pupils gain the most information from the particular way in view of the rites of passage, I deal also possibilities to enrich a certain representation of ritual. The conclusion summarizes the main reasons for the changes of rites of passage that appear in the history books for upper primary school. Change and continuity in a Japanese rite of passage: the case of Shichigosan

Keywords: ritual, rite of passage, social change, consumer culture, media This thesis deals with a ritual observed today in a panorama of extremely dense consumer culture in the highly industrialized society of Japan. The ritual in exam is known under the name of Shichigosan (translated into English as Seven-Five-Three) and it is observed by children of three, five and seven years of age. The ritual has its predecessors in various rural ritual observances that were associated to certain ages seen as threshold in the child's life. The consolidation of the urban pattern of the ritual went along with the transformation and urbanization during the Tokugawa shogunate from the 17th century onwards. The thesis describes the historical development of Shichigosan during which it has proved capable of adaptation to changing social and economic conditions without losing those elements that render it recognizable as a ritual mode of expression. The ritual in exam unfolds as a shared platform of meaning where basic social values, views on children and family life, and also individual perceptions emerge, are expressed and shaped at the same time.
