Relationship of inhabitants to their home place in Eastern and Western Ore Mountains (Krušné hory)
Tichá, Kateřina ; Mikšíček, Petr (advisor) ; Braun Kohlová, Markéta (referee)
Diplomová práce Vztah obyvatel k místu 5 Abstract This thesis entitled "Relationship of inhabitants to their home place in Eastern and Western Ore Mountains (Krušné hory)" focuses on the issue of a relationship the current inhabitants have to the area they live in. This relationship is defined on the basis of several distinct theoretical areas. The first portion of the thesis covers the basic terminology key for understanding the relationship of inhabitants to their home place. It deals with the definition of the term "home place", its character and ways in which it may be perceived. It also contemplates the term "settlement" and focuses on "identity" which is further defined as biographical and regional identity. Identity may be studied in the context of a relationship to the countryside, local community and historical awareness. The paper also characterises the Sudetenland region and provides the historical context necessary for a comprehensive outlook at the area researched without marginalizing the issue of nationalism. The practical portion employs qualitative methodology to process eighteen semi-structured interviews with representatives of elites (mayors, businessmen and members of associations) of the selected are of the Eastern and Western Ore Mountains. Subsequent analyses point to identical and...
An anthropogenic transformation of the natural sphere of Africa
Píšová, Šárka ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Kliment, Zdeněk (referee)
Africa is a heterogeneous environment that is affected by natural and anthropogenic processes. This thesis uses a review method to characterize the natural environment of the continent, present possible classifications of natural conditions and to describe the transformation of this environment. The main methodological aim of the thesis was to determine areas threatened by biodiversity loss due to anthropogenic pressures based on a new classification of the natural environment on a continental level. This was executed by methods of environmental stratification and subsequent environmental classification. Thus, this thesis presents a classification of the natural environment on the basis of homogenous units determined by bioclimatic variables and terrain, which are subsequently related to the biodiversity of birds, amphibians and mammals and to an anthropogenic influence represented by anthropogenic biomes. Finally, the share of protected areas is executed in relation to this anthropogenic transformation of the natural environment. Therefore, the thesis is quite a unique approach, as it takes into account a combination of both physical and socio-economic factors at a continental level. The final output consists of a map of the anthropogenic transformation of Africa's natural environment in the...

UNIVERZITA KARLOVA FAKULTA HUMANITNÍCH STUDIÍ Katedra sociální a kulturní ekologie Ing. Jitka Preusslerová Alternativní a doplňkové ekonomické systémy v praxi Abstract of diploma thesis Vedoucí práce: Mgr. et Mgr. Arnošt Novák, Ph.D. Praha 2019 Abstract: This thesis is based on the premise of long-term unsustainability of the current economic system and its aim is to explore possible alternatives, or supplements, which could contribute to its transformation into more viable form. The first part consists of a literature research that contains the widest possible range of related concepts, thought and does not neglect the historical continuity of alternative economic thinking. In the practical part the research focuses on two concrete implementations, which are very different from each other. The intention is to explore functionality, their drawbacks and bright sides to which the method of participating observation and interviews with system members or their founders will be used. In the final part there is a discussion about whether this reformation path is the right solution to the problems and shortcomings that the current economic world is facing, or rather a patch for the soul for individuals who are aware of these threats. The natural environment of the planet Venus
Dergunova, Alexandra ; Kalvoda, Jan (advisor) ; Šobr, Miroslav (referee)
In the paper the current state of knowledge about the natural environment of planet Venus is described. The present state of affairs was determined by studies and evaluation of available data in specialized publications. The aims of presented bachelor thesis are in description of the planet as a whole, its atmosphere, landforms and internal structure. Special attention is attended to morphography of the Venus surface with an intention to characterize the main morphostructural landforms and related types of relief- forming processes. The physical and chemical processes operated in partial spheres of the planet substantially determinate the evolution of its landforms. Morphographical arrangement of landforms on the Venus is documented by a global topographic map and by groups of selected remote sensing images of the planetary surface. The current state of knowledge of the Venus topography can already be used to systematical investigation of the origin and intensity of landform changes, namely during the long-term development of its lithospherical crust by endogenous processes. Documentation of these morphogenetic processes and phenomena in up to the present published results of space missions was a stimulus for the proposal of morphostructural interpretation of main types of the Venus landforms....
Development and structure of early medieval settlement in northwest Bohemia
KRAUS, Miroslav
The thesis summarizes and subsequently describes and evaluates contemporary knowledge, development and structure of early medieval settlement in the northwestern part of the Czech Republic. Emphasis is placed on the spatial relation of settlements and burial grounds to local selected features of the natural environment, which is evaluated on the basis of graphical representation and statistical processing in individual periods of czech early Middle Ages. The spatial context and the distribution of the settlement in the landscape are also evaluated. Spatial settlement properties are processed into catalogs and are handled in GIS and statistical tools. The resulting model is rather of a general nature because it is the first comprehensive treatment of the early medieval settlement in this part of Bohemia and is thus discussed from a methodological point of view.
Changes of the natural environment in southern Africa
Píšová, Šárka ; Kliment, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
The diverse region of southern Africa is affected by several changes of the natural environment. This thesis characterizes the region of southern Africa and evaluates the state and development of these natural conditions and environmental problems in four main categories of physical geography - climate, vegetation, soils and water. A literature review is compiled and processed focusing on studies by field experts, which describe the main issues in these categories. Particular problems which the region encounters are described on a global, regional and local scale. The main problems are: changes in temperature and precipitation, land cover change, deforestation, desertification, threats to biodiversity, soil erosion and water availability. Overall, changes of the natural environment in southern Africa are caused by climate change and anthropogenic activity. However, human activities cause a greater impact as a result of their "indirect influence" on climate conditions and "direct influence" on vegetation conditions. Key words: Africa, southern Africa, natural environment, climate, vegetation, soils, water

Social care in conjunction with home care as public interest and basic pillar of elderly care in Czech Republic
Dušková, Kateřina ; Válková, Monika (advisor) ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (referee)
This thesis deals with the security system care services and other related services, including informal care for seniors in the Czech Republic. The aim of the work is to evaluate, describe and offer a closer understanding of nursing as a basic social care service in connection with the principle of shared care in a natural home environment for seniors as the ideal form of care for the elderly at present and due to the demographic development in the future. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part covers three main topics: day care service system in the Czech Republic, seniors as a target group of caring and sharing and municipalities and their role in caring for the elderly. The practical part is devoted to the research, which focuses on the relationship of care services and communities from the perspective of potential service users, ie. the elderly. A combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods is used in the research and interprets the results of the survey conducted among the elderly in three senior clubs in Prague 17. The research complements the findings mentioned in the theoretical part.
Business going green: critical discourse analysis of corporate green responsibility
Tušková, Kateřina ; Švantner, Martin (advisor) ; Kobes, Tomáš (referee)
The present thesis introduces an analysis of a part of public corporate communication through which large international companies present a positive image of their brands, technologies, operations and, above all, their values vis-à-vis the issue of environmental protection. It would likely not provoke much dispute, shall it be stated that environmental protection has over the several past decades climbed to the top of the list of the world's priority agenda. Yet whether an ecological crisis is or is not a real threat, or whether the parties involved really do or do not take the proclaimed steps necessary for the improvement of the state of the natural environment, is not a matter of importance here. The important thing is that people (companies) are talking about the environment. In the context of a global ecological threat companies are on one hand pressured into accepting green responsibilities, on the other hand in building their green image they actively adopt certain aspects of green discourse and articulate their own environmental diagnoses and propose possible remedies. Using critical discourse analysis this thesis tries to uncover the ways of construction of corporate green responsibility discourse aiming to answer questions regarding the selection of discourse strategies and use of language,...
