Political-news satire in The Daily Show

The aim of the Bachelor thesis "Political-news satire in The Daily Show" is to map evolution of political and news satire in TV in United States of America with emphasis to evolution and impact of the cult show The Daily Show, which is airing on Comedy Central channel. It tries to map structure and evolution of the show throughout the whole history of the show. After general introduction to the history of political satire in television before The Daily Show was broadcast, the thesis focuses on the most prominent personalities who worked as a staff of the show and had the biggest impact on formation of content and the message of The Daily Show. Particular attention is paid to the main era of Jon Stewart's role as a host, where the show has experienced a period of the greatest fame and has influenced the future of the political-news satire to the present. However, it also examines the main changes in recent history of the show and the changes brought by the new moderator Trevor Noah. In the last part, the work focuses on the influence that the program and its prominent personalities have had on the current wave of increased interest and popularity of political- satire not only in the United States, but all around the world and examines the most famous figures of contemporary political-news satire.

La Celestina: Comedia, Tragicomedia, Acto de Traso and aditional characters

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of newly appeared figures in later versions of the literary work Comedia de Calisto y Melibea, i.e. Tragicomedia, and in the fragment known as Acto de Traso. In the first part the features and characteristics of the historical and literary context will be defined and discussed. The second part will focus on the model typology and functions on which the figures in the work are patterned. The third part will concentrate on the different versions of the literary work, aiming to identify, describe and analyse the newly added figures in these later versions.

The role of secondary characters in Molière's comedies

This Master's diploma thesis deals with the work of French playwright Molière, to be more precise, with types of characters in his plays. The thesis is not only based on Molière's main works Don Juan, Tartuffe or The Miser but it also studies characters in comedies like The Bourgeois Gentleman, Scapin's Deceits and others. It distinguishes two categories, major and minor characters. Nevertheless the attention is particularly focused on the minor characters. The goal of the thesis is to show what importance the characters have in Molière's plays and what is their role. Alfred de Musset and his dramatic work

The purpose of this study is to define different types of love in selected theatre plays of Alfred de Musset. I also partly focused in his plays on social questions, negative characters and unconventional theatrical methods. At first I introduced the work and important moments of writer's life which were often an inspiration for his stories and characters. I also outlined the brief history of romantic theatre and finally analyzed the theatre plays. The selected analyzes include the extracts illustrating the types of loves or unique traits of characters. The contribution of this study consists in defining the original method the author used to describe the profundity of the feelings of his characters. The Comic in Henry James' Fiction

The subject of this thesis is the study and interpretation of the interlacement of the world of comedy in several works of Henry James and the reflection in these fictions of certain specified problems and challenges of modern society which assist to bring forth the social ambience therein. In the author's opinion, the comedy in the said works of James, on the fundamental level, criticises and pokes fun at the evils of modern society and the characters who pay homage to them. The thesis argues that the comedy in the analysed works of Henry James satirizes several challenging, problematic socio-cultural and economic developments of contemporary modern times through the ridicule and stigmatization of the mostly despicable characters who, under the sway of these developments, perpetrate their negative influence on the lives of other characters in the selected works. To substantiate this argument the thesis looks at the following works of James: The Wings of the Dove, The Golden Bowl, The Portrait of a Lady, The Ambassadors, "The Turn of the Screw" and "The Beast in the Jungle." Cultural Differences between the British and the American Version of the TV Series "The Office"

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse cultural differences between the British and the American society on the basis of a British sitcom called "The Office" and its American adaptation. In the first chapter of the thesis we learn the basic information about the sitcom. In chapter two there is an explanation of how could the sitcom became so popular in the US. In the second part of the same chapter we look into general differences in filming the UK and the US sitcoms. With the third chapter the analysis of the sitcom "The Office" starts. It begins with a description of its plot-line and the main characters then it moves on to analyse differences between the main characters. After this, a topic of cultural and social phenomena in the present-day UK and US society is examined. The analysis ends with the discussion on the topic of humour and its differences in the UK and the US version of the sitcom.

The Portrayal of Czech Society in Petr Schulhoff's Film Comedies of the Normalization Era

Submitted thesis The Portrayal of Czech Society in Petr Schulhoff's Film Comedies of the Normalization Era analyses the cinematography of the Czechoslovak Republic in the seventies and the eighties through the topic of social a ideological values which they present. Its primary concern is the question what are selected movies saying about Czechoslovak social reality of that time and which instruments of semiotic mediations are used for this purpose. The main assumption of the work is that also escapist entertainment described the era, setting and characters according to norms dictated by the communist government and thus help to stabilize the system.

Theme of love in Moliere's main works

This bachelor's thesis theme is an analysis of love in selected Moliere's works. Love is present as an element that shapes various characters in author's works. They most frequently dissert with love of young people whose parents are laying obstacles in the way of their love. In some cases, love has even a more important role (Misantrop). It can even be the substance of the relevant work, as is the case of Don Juan and, in a way, of Amfitryon. School for Wives and the texts related to it are a specific case, whereas not only love is in question but the matters of woman's lot itself. The goal of this thesis is to show in which aspects we can find the theme of love in Moliere's works and what importance it has in his plays.
