The End of the CSFR and the role of political elits in this process
Vimmr, Martin Kryšpín ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
This paper focuses on the dissolution of Czech and Slovak Federal Republic in the context of Arend Lijphart's theory of consociational democracy. It is a comparative case study in which is compared the case of Czechoslovak federation with consociational democracy as a normative type. The paper consists of theoretical and empirical part. The consociational theory itself and its relation to the federalism are described in the first one. In the empirical part are sought all major consociational principles (grand coalition, mutual veto, proportionality, segmental autonomy and political discretion) in the Czechoslovak political system in the time around elections in 1992. The main reason why should be Czechoslovakia placed in the context of consociationalism is fact that the Arend Lijphart (author of the theory) himself identifies Czechoslovakia as a book example of consociational democracy. The existence of strongly divided segments in Czechoslovakia is proven in this paper by the same method as Lijphart uses in Netherlands. The election results of both ethnics - Czechs and Slovaks - were strictly divided in the years 1990 and 1992. This means that there were no political parties that were successful in both republics at the same time. Most of the consociational principles were found in the Czechoslovak...

The thesis is grounded on the synthesis of many sources with emphasis on consistent citing sources of the original authors. The thesis is composed of three chapters, which are divided into subchapters. These subchapters contain parts. In introduction I set the aim of thesis to describe the aspects of termination Czechoslovakia. For better context is in thesis genesis and development of the federation. KLESTIL, Jakub
In my bachelor work I deal with breakup of Czechoslovakia in year 1992. I submit description of events which led to this dismemberment of the republic. I try to explain terms like federation, national coexistence and relation between Czech and Slovak. I concentrate on events, whose influence is not evident at first look, but they are important. I also work on evaluation of development after several years. My work is based on works of Czech and Slovak authors, Jan Rychlik mainly. The goal is to give a picture of post-revolutionary development in ČSFR and to find out the reasons of breakup of the republic.

Kloboučníková, Kristýna ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Matějka, Zdeněk (referee)
Language and economic conflict in the Kingdom of Belgium is worth observing because of one reason. It is a conflict splitting society of a founding state of the European Union. Disputes concerning identity have been running directly in the middle of today's Europe, where, by contrast, a tendency of deeper integration has prevailed. This bachelor thesis deals with the conflict between the Flemings and the Walloons in order to define barriers that unite Belgian society and prevent the break-up of the state. The cleavage theory, applied to the conflict in Belgium in following chapters, is explained in the first part of the thesis. The second and the third part are focused on the conflict evolution and its current state. The fourth part occupies with the barriers that make it possible for the Belgian state to maintain its existence.
