The variability of facial expressions in relation to age and sex: pilot study for monitoring the treatment of facial palsy.

This thesis deals with the analysis of 3D morphological changes and variability in the shape and form of facial expression during five specifically defined facial expressions (raising eyebrows, close both eyes, lips pursing, inflating both cheeks, smile). Changes in facial expression were evaluated in relation to sexual dimorphism and age category of probands using the methods of geometric morphometrics (Dense Correspondence Analysis, Paired Analysis, Principal Component Analysis, Shell-to-Shell Deviation) in program Morphome3cs and RapidForm. The analysis consisted of evaluating the surface of soft tissue changes that occur due to the contraction of facial muscles. Materials used for the analysis are 3D surface facial models of adult healthy people of the Czech nationality (63 women, 58 men) in the age interval 20-60 years. We considered methodology based on Paired Analysis to be more accurate, when we worked only with differences between the neutral expression and facial expression. By choosing a Paired Analysis, we prevented the morphological features of the face from being reflected into the results. Title of the thesis: Developing pronunciation through musical activities in French lessons Keywords: communicative approach, phonetics, phonology, pronunciation, prosody, activity, music, rhythm, rhythmisation, melody, tempo, intonation, accent, song, rap, facial expressions Abstract: This thesis deals with the teaching of French phonetics, considers the status of phonetics in communicatively oriented teaching, and comes to the fact that the teaching of phonetics and phonology is not a priority in the communicative approach. The work demonstrates the importance of such teaching, and therefore explores how the teaching of pronunciation or some of its components could be made more attractive. Based on the proven relationship of music and language, both as auditory phenomena, this thesis approaches the interwoven elements of these two areas. The aim is to explore how the musical elements, such as: rhythm, melody, tempo, phrasing, etc., could be used in the teaching of French pronunciation - especially at the suprasegmental level. The work offers a basic inventory of exercises which benefit from this characteristic and which has been verified in practice, and in the final analysis summarises their effectiveness in foreign language teaching.
Complex aspects of communication - gestics and mimics

Title of the thesis: Complex aspects of communication - gestures and facial expressions Key words: Nonverbal communication, emotions, gestures, facial expressions, interpretation Abstract: The thesis focuses on the international comphrensibility of the complex aspects of communication, especially the nonverbal components. Of these nonverbal components we have pursued the gestures and facial expressions in particular. The domains of nonverbal communication are related, therefore the thesis mentions them as well. However our primary focus rests on the gestures and facial expressions. We researched through a questionnaire. The responders identified themselves and after that they were asked to identify and interpret facial expressions and gestures that we had chosen. The research indicates situations, when a communication is expressed only by the use of nonverbal means and may fail to convey the information. Furthermore, we looked into the possible advantages of knowledge of the nonverbal communication for teachers.
Detection of facial expression

This master‘s thesis deals with the design and implementation of computer application for facial expression recognition. The first section describes the image processing, especially algorithms used in other parts of this thesis. The next section describes methods used for face detection, particularly the Viola-Jones detector. This is followed by a brief description of the basic facial expressions recognized by the application. The last two sections are dedicated to the design and implementation of the facial expression recognition algorithms and to the evaluation of the results.
Nonverbal communication and its use in the organization

This thesis deals with the use of nonverbal communication in the organization. The aim is to assess the importance of nonverbal communication in employment relations in the organization, particularly at the time of recruitment and business meetings. The methodology of obtaining empirical information was based on descriptions of nonverbal communication by various authors in publications devoted to practice nonverbal communication. In this thesis was made a comparison of descriptions of different authors and were evaluated similarities and differences between them.
