Czech - Slovakia: development of each country after the split of Czechoslovakia
Pelikánová, Radka ; Löster, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bílková, Diana (referee)
International comparison is very popular area of statistics, which is used to examine differences in many fields of science. This thesis seeks to apply the concepts of International comparison to the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. Though it has been 20 years since Czech and Slovak Republic separated from each other yet, rivalry exists between the two countries. Particularly, the socio-economic factors contributing to this rivalry have been of interest to economists. To further explore this rivalry, this master thesis aims to describe the difference in evolution of demographic, economic and social indicators that characterize development of countries and standard of living of its population. This paper consists of four main chapters. The first chapter outlines the introduction to time series and describes methods used in the following chapters for analysis of indicators. The second chapter briefly defines monitored indicators in terms of their objectivity, methodology and comparability in both countries. The third chapter analyzes the evolution in time and directly compares the values of indicators. The fourth chapter analyzes the average and median wages in greater detail. These indicators were chosen for analysis as they largely affect the standards of living in both countries. From the perspective of comparison method it is not straightforward to determine that one country has better results in all indicators than the other. Yet, here are two main broad conclusions. First, the notional "scores" are similar for demographic indicators. Second, Czech Republic has better social and economic indicators results then Slovak Republic. The analysis of trend models of average and median wage found that the social gap is widening in both countries. However, after converting to the same exchange rate, it is clear that the wage level is better in Czech Republic then in Slovak Republic.

Malkrabová, Marie ; Hnát, Pavel (advisor) ; Machytka, Daniel (referee)
This thesis describes which Arab countries export oil and how the oil industry influences their economies. The first part deals with the definition of the concept of Arab states in a historical aspect. It defines the states geographically, culturally and religiously. Based on the study of literature, it focuses on the important historical events in this region. The thesis also mentions their tendency to create economic and political alliances. It examines the distribution of oil resources and its production. The second part concentrates on the important economic indicators such as GDP, unemployment, foreign direct investment and current account surplus in the balance of payments. The current account surplus is crucial for this thesis. It is characteristic for the economies of Arab oil-exporting countries and highlights the minimal diversification of these economies.
Comparison of specific demographic and economic indicators in the Czech Republic and Sweden
Veselý, Václav ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Löster, Tomáš (referee)
Bachelor thesis describes differences and similarities in the demographic development between the Czech Republic and Sweden. The first part is focused on the systems of family policy in both countries. In the Czech Republic the main tool is the financial support for families with children. In Sweden the main aim is to provide mothers opportunities for both child care and their profession. In the next part it is written down the development of demographical indicators in the last 20 years. In the Czech Republic there is obvious the aging of population, while in Sweden the aging is not so strong. In the last 20 years the value of total fertility rate dropped at first, but later it rose again. In both countries women postpone childbearing into their higher ages. After standardization it's obvious that mortality in Sweden is much lower than in the Czech Republic. Life expectancy is rising in both countries. Both countries belong to the top of the world according to infant and neonatal mortality. Due to the decline in number of marriages after the year 1990 in the Czech Republic nowadays the marriage rate is at the similar level as in Sweden. Migration increase is quite variable, but both countries show permanently positive values. Both countries are compared according to the proportion of social protection expenditures on GDP or according to the total tax rate. In both indicators Sweden belongs to the countries with the highest level in Europe. At the end of the thesis the relationship between social policy and development of demographic indicators (especially birth rate) is shown. For the Czech Republic it's recommended to increase the number of nursery schools and to support part-time job.
