Bachelor Thesis under the title: "Neo-Ottomanism and Its Effects in the Western Balkans: The Comparison of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina" analyses the attitude of Turkish foreign policy towards Western Balkan states. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the Turkish expansionary foreign policy not only from a military but from an economic point of view. The thesis is divided into three parts. A "Special Relationship"? the Anglo-American Relationship in the Age of Barack Obama and David Cameron
Nováková, Michaela ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
The term "special relationship" was for the first time in public used by the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in his Fulton speech in 1946. His belief was based on the assumption that both countries were culturally similar and had cooperated in the Second World War. The cultural similarity and common purpose have been the presumption of mutual cooperation right from the beginning of the Cold War. Personal ties and Anglo-Saxon roots played also played a key role in defining the relationship as undoubtedly special. Such examples are JFK and Harold MacMillan, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, and the subservient policy of Tony Blair towards G. W. Bush. The last mentioned is also used for partial comparisons throughout the thesis. The thesis called A "Special Relationship?" the Anglo- American Relationship in the Age of Barack Obama and David Cameron deals with the question whether the so-called special relationship is still special. By setting Obama-Cameron relationship into historical context, it offers a comparison between peaks, troughs, and average- level Anglo-American relationships. This leads to a conclusion providing specific factors of the Anglo-American special relationship. Those factors stem from the historical perspective and are then used in the main-body analysis of five...

The bachelor's thesis "Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Great Britain" deals with the French- British bilateral relations during the period 1974-1981 when VGE held the post of the French President. At that time the cooperation between Paris and London gained the new dimension because of the admission of the United Kingdom to the European Economic Community in 1973. In the context of the French-British bilateral cooperation the paper focuses on the personality of VGE and answers the question if VGE's family environment and traditions were positive about the Anglo-Saxon states or not and if his family background could have influenced his attitude to the UK during his septennat. Consequently, the study applies the biography method. The first part of the bachelor's thesis analyses the French-British bilateral relations in 1958-1981 putting emphasis on personal preferences of French Presidents. The second chapter deals with VGE's family background and examines its influence on his attitude to Great Britain. The third part studies relations between VGE and British Prime Ministers and analyses if this personal level intensified the good stance...

Manas Air Base and U.S.-Kyrgyz Relations
Nováková, Sabina ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
The following thesis is a case study of the U.S. Manas air base in Kyrgyzstan. It addresses the significance of the base in the context of mutual U.S.-Kyrgyz relations after 2001. It aims to analyze the bilateral negotiations between the U.S. and the Kyrgyz on establishing the air base, its functioning, and eventually its closure in 2014. Among the research questions, it seeks to explain the respective positions of both parties, the motives behind their actions, and factors that influenced this negotiation process. The analysis shows that the extensive U.S. efforts to get and maintain access to the facility were driven by the necessity to secure transportation corridors to and from Afghanistan. Kyrgyzstan, on the other hand, was primarily interested in financial benefits stemming from having an American base on its territory. The U.S. let local elites enrich themselves in connection with the air base revenues. Kyrgyzstan's internal instability also had a major impact on its stance towards foreign policy matters and the issue of the Manas air base in particular. The U.S. was a stronger player in this asymmetric relationship, but Washington often got into situations where it was being pulled by Kyrgyzstan's domestic developments, which effectively determined mutual relations. The analysis concludes that...

Čapková, Zuzana ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
The diploma thesis "The French-Czech relations after the French EU Presidency (2009- 2013)" examines the relations between France and the Czech Republic during five years after the French presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2008, which was replaced by the Czech Presidency in the first half of 2009. The aim of this work is to find out whether we can observe a similar process in the opposite direction, that is, whether bilateral cooperation between France and the Czech Republic contributes to the Europeanisation of relations in the fields of foreign policy, defense and security, justice and home affairs, transport, environment, trade and economic relations, culture, science and education. The work is divided into two main parts. After a theoretical and methodological introduction, the first one treats the evolution of the French-Czech relations in the 20th and 21st century, the largest part of the work is the analysis of key areas derived from the text of Strategic Partnership established in 2008. In the final chapter, the author tries to generalize the Europeanisation of bilateral relations between these two EU Member States with regard to the importance of bilateral and...

Handlíř, Jakub ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
This master thesis is dealing with the German-Austrian relations between 1998 and 2005 with an emphasis on a period of sanctions against Austria in 2000 in which Germany participated. The analysis was done by using the concept of civilian power to analyze the German foreign policy and by using the theory of asymmetrical dyads to analyze the German-Austrian relations. Outside the above mentioned topic and period of time this thesis concerns itself also briefly with the history of the German-Austrian relations before 1998 and the Austrian political party FPÖ. Due to the thematic limitations this thesis doesn't cover the domestic policy of both countries during that era or the German-Austrian Relations outside the designed period of time.

Nowadays, Federal Republic of Germany is Chile's major trade partner within EU. Although German immigration in Chile was relatively small in numbers, Chilean Germans subsequently managed to establish respected position and notably contributed to building-up this South American country in various fields. A positive reception of Chilean Germans' and/or Germany's influence was also reflected in this country's approach towards Germany during turbulent 20th century. The paper offers a qualitative historical overview of the official bilateral relations of Germany to one of its closest partners in the region. The relation is studied from several various perspectives (German-Chilean community, Chilean state authorities and government, foreign policy of FRG and GDR). In order to provide a more complex understanding of general context the issues are explained within wider frame of Chilean, German and Latin American modern history. Furthermore, a character of bilateral relations between Chile in democratic transition and unified Germany after 1990 is...
