Continuity of Aging
Ach-Hübner, Klarisa ; Valouch, Štěpán (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
The thesis deals with alternative solutions to the current form of health and social care for the elderly. It addresses the problem of over-specialisation of care, which results in the deteriorating condition of the client requiring more frequent changes of care settings. The thesis builds on a pre-diploma project that explored the differences between different types of care. Where meaningful, it proposes to combine the different types of care into a coherent whole - a stable home. This offers continuity of care, stability of relationships between clients and also to staff, and constancy of environment. The stable home is presented in the form of a more generally applicable typology and then tested on a specific design for a home on náměstí Míru in Brno.
Care of a patient with mental disorder from the perspective of a health worker in a social care facility
HRÁDKOVÁ, Denisa
The bachelor thesis is titled "Care for patient with mental disabilities from the perspective of healthcare worker in a social care facility". The first aim was to map the application of healthcare workers' competencies within social facilities. The second aim was to identify the needs of patients with mental disabilities in a selected social facility. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, the definition, etiology, symptoms, diagnosis, and degrees of mental disability are described. This part also includes the bio-psycho-social-spiritual needs of patients and addresses the provision of healthcare, the duties of healthcare personnel, and the social facility itself. The empirical part was processed through qualitative research using semi-structured interviews. The research sample consisted of nine nurses working in selected social facilities. To achieve the set objectives, seven research questions were created. In the qualitative research investigation of this bachelor thesis, it was found that nurses in social facilities do not have the competence to perform intravenous therapy. Their competencies are applied in administering oral medications and wound care. Furthermore, from the conducted interviews with the nurses, it was revealed that all of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual needs of patients are adequately met in social facilities. The output of the study is an informational material intended for the general public, nurses working with mentally disabled individuals, student education, and family members of persons with disabilities. Additionally, the thesis will serve as a basis for further possible quantitative research that would verify the data obtained or as a source of information in the reconstruction of health and social facility standards.

The first chapters of this thesis are dedicated to community care and utilization of community nursing care, including the history and development of community care in the Czech Republic as well as outside its territory. The thesis further provides a summary of institutions, health and social services within community care, including the possibility of home care. It also deals with the role of community nurses and their involvement in the process of community planning. Another important part of this thesis is the issue of emergencies where the term "emergency" is defined, and divisions of emergencies and the cooperation of integrated response system are described. The thesis furthermore concentrates on the procedures of the ambulance service during emergencies including emergencies with polytrauma and the subsequent treatment in health-care facilities. One of the goals of this thesis is to describe the role of medics during emergencies and the role they play in caring for patients coming from different communities. Further chapters deal with specific community health care: elderly people, children, people with disabilities, groups of different cultures - ethnic and national minorities. It also deals with the specifics of providing health care from the point of view of religion. The practical part is dedicated to quantitative survey of knowledge of medics in issues of community health care across different levels of education and different ranks. A research question was determined: What is the understanding and professional level of medics in the community care setting during and after an emergency? The respondent data was obtained in the form of a questionnaire and results are shown in diagrams. The questionnaires aimed to find out whether the respondents had ever heard the term "community care" and to find out their theoretical knowledge on this issue. However, the main point was to evaluate how vast is their practical experience.

The importance of health services for caring families
PRACHAŘOVÁ, Eva
This thesis deals with the topic of informal care linked with health care services. Many people are not aware of the variety of fields that can be classified as health care services and where to find these services outside of hospitals and surgeries. Often people have to look for information in the moment when they need to start caring for someone else which is usually difficult for them. One part of the thesis focuses on informal care, who carries it out, what it involves. The main goal of the practical part of the thesis is to identify the significance of health care services for caring families. To discover this goal two research questions were set: 1. Why does a member of a family become an informal carer? 2. Why do caring families utilize health care services for a non self-sufficient member of a family? In order to accomplish the goal, qualitative strategy was used, in particular the method of questioning. During the interviews, the semi-structured form was used. The acquired data were then processed using the method of creating clusters. On the basis of the acquired results I believe that the goal of the thesis has been fulfilled. Caring families seek out and utilize health care services when they need to add professional acts to their care. The example of such situation would be if a non self-sufficient person would have to be moved into a hospital or a housing facility (such as a retirement home) where formal care is carried out on a common basis. Families also seek out health care services if they need to stabilize or improve the health condition of the person they care for.

ŘÍHOVÁ, Eva
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the Canadian and American health care systems against the background of the two countries' cultures, starting with the description of their common and divergent histories. I would like to define the term culture in all its different forms and meanings, and then concentrate on health care developments and authentic case studies. The main topics I deal with in my thesis are "free" and paid healthcare systems, the issue of waiting times in Canada, the issue of maternity leave in the United States and I am also focusing on health care expenditures in both countries. This bachelor thesis also contains qualitative research regarding to the experience and opinions of Americans and Canadians followed by an analysis.
