Regional analysis of cause-specific mortality in European countries
Šebík, Jan ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Pachlová, Tereza (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis was to identify regional inequalities of cause-specific mortality in NUTS 2 regions (28 European Union countries, Iceland, Norway, Macedonia, Switzerland) and analyse their development from 1999 to 2010. The analysis was carried out individually for each sex because of different mortality intensity between sexes. The mortality intensity was analysed through age- standardized mortality rates and life expectancy at birth. These indicators enabled international comparison of NUTS 2 regions. More detailed analysis was created for five main groups of causes of death: diseases of the circulatory system, neoplasms, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the digestive system and external causes of mortality. Generally, the age-standardized cause-specific mortality decreased in Europe but in some regions it increased. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Trajer, Jiří ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Analysis of the regional development of mortality in NUTS 3 regions in Czechia and Sweden during 1997-2011 Abstract The aim of this thesis is to analyze and describe the development of regional mortality in Czechia and Sweden from 1997 to 2011. Besides of total mortality of both countries and their regions we will focus on the development of regional mortality and regional differentiation of mortality from five most common causes of death for both sexes. These five groups include diseases of circulatory, respiratory and digestive system and neoplasms with external causes of morbidity and mortality. As a basic indicator from selected causes of death is used age-standardized mortality rate and in case of total mortality is also used life expectancy. In both countries the raise of life expectancy and decline of standardized mortality rates were observed during the monitored period. The decline of standardized mortality rates were observed in both countries for almost all causes of death with one exception. The exception was rise of the mortality from respiratory system diseases in Czechia. Keywords: mortality, regional analysis, causes of death, Czechia, Sweden, regional inequalities
Housing Prices in the Czech Republic and Slovakia: Regional Comparison
Cempírek, Petr ; Hlaváček, Michal (advisor) ; Žigraiová, Diana (referee)
The objective of the present Bachelor's thesis is to compare the behavior of housing prices in the Czech Republic and Slovakia using econometric analysis. First, the author presents the historical context and basic housing indicators. After verifying that variables in dataset are cointegrated, a panel DOLS es- timator for modelling housing prices is employed. The author uses quarterly regional data in order to analyze the response of basic housing price fundamen- tals in the two countries that formed one federation until 1992. By forming a short run equation with an error-correction term the author checks for the existence of long run housing price equilibrium and for the speed of price rever- sion to equilibrium in case it is misaligned. The author then focuses on housing price misalignments as well as their dynamics in the individual regions.
Regional analysis of circulatory disease mortality in the Czech Republic, Italy and Sweden from the 1980's to the present
Pánek, Jan ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Diseases of the circulatory system have long been the most frequent cause of death in the developed world. The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the evolution of mortality from selected diseases of the circulatory system in the Czech Republic, Italy and Sweden from the 1980th to the present with the emphasis on the regional aspects. Its main part consists of analysis of regional differentiation, including international comparisons. Mortality from ischemic heart disease, cerebral vascular disease and atherosclerosis decreased during the reporting period, while mortality from hypertensive diseases increased. Despite the gradual convergence, mortality rates remain distinctly different in selected countries.

Hynek, Tomáš ; Strejček, Ivo (advisor) ; Lukášová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis analyzes the unemployment rate in the districts of Benešov, Příbram, Brno-venkov and Znojmo between 2005-2015 in the context of the dynamics of economic structure and division into the core and periphery areas. The aim of this paper is to analyze unemployment, focus on the specific characteristics of each region and the status of residents of peripheral areas on the labor market. The main task is to confirm or disprove the hypothesis which says: residents of peripheral areas are disadvantaged in the labor market due to economic changes between 2005-2015. The analysis is based on the comparison of the proportion of unemployed people aged 15-64 which provides data up to the district level. Other supporting indicators are public spending on active and passive employment policy, the educational structure of job seekers, the number of large companies in the region, the road intensity and quality of transport infrastructure. The analysis finds out that unemployment in selected regions is influenced by many factors but the number of large companies, the education of job seekers and the transport infrastructure plays the most important role.

What economic indicators are the most appropriate measures of quality of life in Czech regions in 2013?
Holanová, Tereza ; Kotýnková, Magdalena (advisor) ; Sunega, Petr (referee)
The master thesis introduces comparison of economic situation and overall quality of life in regions of the Czech Republic in 2013. Based on hierarchical Quality-of-life Index (QLI), the thesis confirms stated hypothesis, which assumes that ordered lists of regions by GDP per capita and alternative, more complex QLI will differ. Aforementioned index is composed of 24 cross-section indicators, which are sorted into three particular categories. Inputs can be considered both consistent and comparable, since the analysis is based on data published by Czech statistical office, individual ministries and official specialized institutions. As the following synthesis proves, Prague region is the best ranked - especially thanks to its favorable economic and demographic conditions. The thesis therefore denies another hypothesis, which expects Prague to perform worse due to its high rate of crime and lower quality of environment than in other regions. Regression analysis implies that total GDP per capita contribution to QLI corresponds to 70 percent.
