The Polish anti-abortion movement in context of the social and political debate
Stejskalová, Michaela ; Klípa, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
Issues related to women's rights, and specifically the right to abortion, belong to the range of central topics that every modern society must deal with and that signal the degree of its liberalization. For the same reason, the given issue is thematized by global and local conservative actors, who have been disseminating the concept of so-called "genderism" in the last decade, which they have used to cover issues of abortion and other social changes considered from their perspective as negative and degrading the "natural order" of Western civilization. They have decided to take an active stand against such changes and to advocate for a political and social return to traditional values. In this context, an important example is Poland, where under the rule of the conservative populist Law and Justice party between 2015 and 2023, there was a clear trend towards this value shift, in which conservative non-governmental organizations played a significant role. A typical example of such an entity is the Ordo Iuris Foundation, which has managed to establish itself as a major actor in the fight against artificial termination of pregnancy and other related issues in a short time horizon. The aim of this thesis was to map how the agenda of Ordo Iuris fits into the goals set by the global anti-gender...
The Strategic Position of Eastern Galicia within the West Ukrainian Republic
Pastuščak, Alan ; Šír, Jan (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on a partial episode of international and diplomatic relations of one of the short-lived successor states of Austria-Hungary - the West Ukrainian Republic. When, in the fall of 1918, war broke out between Poland and the West Ukrainian Republic over which side would have a permanent claim to Eastern Galicia, France and Great Britain made repeated efforts to settle the disputes between the two states, but in the end the sovereignty of the West Ukrainian Republic was not preserved. The aim of the thesis is to determine the reasons why the West Ukrainian Republic as a geopolitical entity did not receive sufficient foreign support to ensure its existence and independence in the fight against Poland. For the research purposes of the work, a combination of several historiographical methodological procedures was used, such as direct, indirect, or progressive. The purpose of this procedure is a clear chronological description of key events, such as diplomatic missions, meetings of delegations, or the work of commissions preparing key documents. The work came to the conclusion that the West Ukrainian Republic collapsed mainly because of stubbornness on the part of its politicians, specifically in the case of the decision not to accept Barthélemy's demarcation line. After the...

In the first model, the statistically significant variables are ALMPs and PLMPs expenditures, GDP growth and EPL index, and in the second model, the statistically significant variables are minimum wage, ALMPs expenditures and GDP growth. In the empirical part, regional disparities of the unemployment rate in the labour force market in Poland are described.

Economic determinants of gender employment gap in Europe: emphasis on Visegrad countries
Frimpomah Wereko, Jennifer
ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH The presence of gender discrimination in the labou market has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. A greater in balance in the labou market does not only lead to economic loss but also has a high effect on the well being of women and quality of our society. The study investigates the economic determinants of gender employment gap with a focus on Visegrad Countries; Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, where little attention has being given to gender employment in the past years. The secondary data for the study was obtained from the world bank database. All Visegrad country's data was downloaded, combined into one dataset, and then examined using ordinary least squares estimation. The analysis revealed that a total of 8 variables out of the initial 16 variables were significant predictors of gender employment gap. Also, almost all the variability in the dependent variable is being explained by the 8 predictors in the model. This is evidenced by a 98.7% coefficient of determination value. The study recommends that since female employment to population ratio increases whiles gender employment gap decreases, more job opportunities for women should be created including engaging women in entrepreneurship. Additionally, flexible work schedules make it easier for women to balance their various obligations and create a better work-life balance. If parents have access to inexpensive childcare options and parental leave, more women will work in advanced economies. The proportion of women who leave the employment after giving birth might be decreased with the aid of improved child care facilities, lengthier leave regulations, and more flexible work environments.
The instrumentalisation and weaponisation of migrants, its impacts, and how the EU responds: the case of Belarus
Škopková, Lucie ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kazharski, Aliaksei (referee)
This diploma thesis will focus on the weaponisation of migration as a hybrid threat posed to states in an attempt to destabilise their internal systems. The case study of the Poland-Belarus border crisis will be used to examine and illustrate how the European Union can address such hybrid attacks and how this reflects on the notion of the European Union as a 'normative power'. This will be done by conducting a content analysis of relevant news articles from EURACTIV, EUobserver, and POLITICO on the case study and by holding interviews with experts and academics. The notion of the European Union as a normative power will be explored through the lens of realism and neo-realism, focusing on the role of human rights and the European Union's reliance on sanctions. This will help to explore the conclusion that the conceptualisation of the European Union should be more nuanced, making it appear as a civilian power with strong normative foundations in practice rather than a solely normative power.
