Direct combustion of the Hydrogen in the combustion engine
Veger, Lukáš ; Poulíček, Matěj (referee) ; Böhm, Michael (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the comparison of hydrogen as a fuel for an internal combustion engine against conventional fuels used in vehicles. The quantities compared are density, energy required for ignition, stoichiometric ratio, calorific value, octane number and flame propagation speed. The second part is devoted to the analysis of the implementation of hydrogen as a fuel for an internal combustion engine, both compression ignition and spark ignition. Important elements of prevention against hydrogen leakage or prevention of its concentration outside the combustion space were also described here. A well-to-wheels comparison of hydrogen production using the SMR method, and the solar electrolysis method was conducted, where the energy consumption and the production of harmful emissions were compared. Furthermore, the parameters of individual drive systems were compared, which included a conventional petrol engine, an electric drive, a hybrid drive, a biofuel burning engine, a hydrogen combustion engine, and a hydrogen fuel cell. The monitored parameters were the production of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions, energy efficiency and range. Finally, the simulation compared a hydrogen spark ignition engine with a gasoline spark ignition engine. Gt-suite program was used. The monitored parameters were performance parameters, production of nitrogen oxide emissions, specific fuel consumption and the dependence of the course of pressure in the combustion chamber on the rotation of the crankshaft.
Design of hydrogen management for internal combustion engine test facility
Berger, Kryštof ; Poulíček, Matěj (referee) ; Štětina, Josef (advisor)
This diploma thesis primarily addresses the issues related to hydrogen, hydrogen infrastructure technologies and hydrogen safety. Due to the increasing demand for testing and implementing hydrogen as a green element in overall human mobility, the requirements of hydrogen infrastructure are also growing. The literature review section of this thesis deals with hydrogen storage, which remains problematic even nowadays, as well as the national and international legislation related to hydrogen economies or hydrogen itself, which cannot be ignored. Lastly, it examines various types of hydrogen refuelling stations and analyse their main concepts. In the experimental section, the diploma thesis focuses on designing a hydrogen economy for the combustion engine testbed at Brno University of Technology, incorporated into a shipping ISO container modified to meet safety and technological requirements. All technological devices are selected to meet expectations, and detection sensors are designed to ensure the safety. Finally, the operation and conditions of the hydrogen economy are simulated using GT -Suite program.
Preparation of a laboratory exercise focusing on hydrogen energy storage
Mistrová, Jana ; Vanýsek, Petr (referee) ; Bača, Petr (advisor)
This diploma thesis describes the preparation of a laboratory experiment focused on hydrogen storage capacity. The experiment deals with hydrogen production, fuel cells, the evaluation its efficiency and hydrogen consumption within a fuel cell. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the energy storage systems, particularly chemical energy storage and hydrogen production. The next part explores fuel cell technologies. Following this, the thesis describes the experiment's preparation, equipment, and fuel cell activation. The final part focuses on the laboratory materials and the report.
Simulational model of utilization of process heat in the system with advanced small modular reactors
Doležal, Václav ; SÚJB, Jan Varmuža, (referee) ; Katovský, Karel (advisor)
This thesis explores the history and current utilization of heat from nuclear power plants, particularly small modular reactors (SMRs). The work initially analyzes the historical development and surveys past projects in this area. Furthermore, it provides an overview of possible applications of heat from nuclear power plants. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on advanced projects of small modular reactors with an emphasis on the industrial use of heat. In the practical part, a system model is constructed that integrates process heat from SMRs in systems of selected potential consumers with the possibility of concurrent hydrogen production.
Design of indirect sensing of gas valve throttle position
Burian, Jaroslav ; Jankovský, Jaroslav (referee) ; Otáhal, Alexandr (advisor)
This thesis deals with the design of a circuit for measuring the throttle position of the PX52 valve from Resideo. The theoretical part discusses the methods whose principle can be used to determine the position of the throttle valve controlled by a stepper motor. Subsequently, the communication protocols that can be chosen between in the design are described. Methods for measuring the mutual properties of the coils were also described. In the practical part, a PCB was created to verify both methods. Furthermore, a program for testing both methods is described in the paper. These methods are compared with each other for different coil variants. Finally, the method is selected and the program is modified for the measurements.

Perspective trends in hydrogen production methods
Leitkep, Jan ; Juřena, Tomáš (referee) ; Brummer, Vladimír (advisor)
Bachelor’s thesis is focused on perspective methods of hydrogen production. First chapters are focused on research of hydrogen resources, methods of hydrogen production and spectrum of its worldwide utilization in present. In this part of the bachelor’s thesis percentage representations of hydrogen resources are stated. Methods of hydrogen production from these resources are described and processes utilizing hydrogen are introduced. Subsequently, the properties of hydrogen fuel are summarized. Following chapters are focused on perspective methods of hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, perspectives of its future usage as a fuel, price of hydrogen produced by these methods and environmental impact of these methods.
New types of membranes for electrolyzer hydrogen - oxygen
Hýbl, Jiří ; Sedlaříková, Marie (referee) ; Kunovjánek, Miroslav (advisor)
This work deals with the production of hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis. Aims of this thesis are to measure different types of membranes and choose the best for use in elektrolyzer for hydrogen and oxygen production. Properties of membranes were tested in the laboratory electrolyzer in the short and long operation. The emerging gases from elektrolyzer were also tested on a gas chromatograph to determine the purity of produced hydrogen. At the same time are also tested different concentrations of KOH elektrolyte and the effect of concentrations on efficiency of electrolyzer.
Storage systems for renewable energy
Švácha, Filip ; Kracík, Petr (referee) ; Poláčik, Ján (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to describe the current possibilities of storing electricity from renewable sources focusing on hydrogen technologies. In the first three parts, the question of energy sto-rage from renewable sources, the current energy storage options and the actual energy storage in hydrogen are discussed in the form of research. The last part is practical and its aim is to compare the current possibilities in designing a system that stores energy in hydrogen. Subsequently, the most favorable option is chosen and compared to other energy storage methods.
