Author: Sandra Newaldová Tutor: PharmDr. Martin Doseděl, Ph.D. Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Introduction: Medication errors are one of the causes of adverse events in healthcare facilities, leading to patient endangerment or harm. A study looking at this issue reports that the most common errors occur when a nurse administers medicines in a healthcare facility. Aim: The aim of the thesis is to monitor medication errors of nurses during the preparation and administration of medication to patients and to analyse the prevalence of medication errors, determine their type, their relationship to other influencing factors, and their severity with respect to the patient's condition. Methods: Prospective observational study with direct observation method, conducted in a specialized medical rehabilitation facility. The study included two pre- and post- intervention phases in which nurses' medication and procedural errors were monitored, analysed and evaluated. Observations were conducted in each phase over three days each time during morning, midday and evening administration. The results were analysed in programs Microsoft Excel and Wolfram Mathematica. Medication errors and the resulting adverse events can have adverse consequences for the patient and, consequently, for the entire healthcare system. The aim of this study was to analyse the whole process of drug administration by nurses in inpatient wards in a South Bohemian hospital. Methods: This thesis is part of an ongoing research project involving the Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University. The first data collection took place in 2021, followed by interventions towards nurses, doctors and hospital management. The data collection for this work was similarly conducted using the direct observation method for three consecutive days from 2 to 5 May 2022. Using a trained multidisciplinary team consisting of a pharmacist and a nurse, the internal medicine, surgery and aftercare departments were observed. Analysis of drug administration by nurses in health facility XI Author: Tereza Altmannová Tutor: PharmDr. Martin Doseděl, Ph.D. Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Introduction and aim: Medication errors are intrinsically linked to the practice of the medical profession. They can occur at several levels - prescription, drug preparation, dispensation, administration, and subsequent use of the drug by the patient. Nurses play an important role in the process of the drug administration in a hospital setting. Because of the occurrenceof medication errors and the consequent inability to achieve desired health outcomes, efforts are nowadays made to detect and minimize them. The aim of this study was to detect and analyze medication errors occurring during drug administration by nurses in a healthcare facility in South Bohemia. Methodology: The study is a part of a multi-year project involving the Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University. The methodology is based on an observational study. The data collection took place in April 2022. Three hospital wards were assigned for the observation, where morning, midday and evening drug administration was monitored for three consecutive days. Data were recorded on a pre- generated form based on the...

6 ABSTRACT Charles university, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Study program: Pharmacy Author: Veronika Záveská Supervisor: RNDr. Klára Konečná, Ph.D. Title of thesis: Study of in vivo toxicity of selected compounds with the implementation of the invertebrate model Galleria mellonella Background: The aim of this diploma thesis was to monitor the influence of the weight of the larvae, or rather its developmental stage, on the results after the administration of selected doses of DMSO. In the experimental work, the toxic impact of DMSO on larvae was evaluated not only from the point of view of mortality. Much attention was also paid to the characteristic features that are commonly observed during tests on Galleria mellonella larvae, such as the degree of melanization, the impact on activity and cocoon formation. Methods: For individual experiments, three test groups of six individuals each were created based on weight, one group of larvae weighing 250 ± 10 mg, the second group weighing 350 ± 15 mg and the third group weighing 450 ± 15 mg. Using a Hamilton syringe, a volume of 10 µl of the test solution with the appropriate concentration of DMSO was administered to each larva directly into the haemocoel through the last left proleg. The administered doses...
