Dietary supplements with adaptogenic effects

The aim of this thesis was to design a recipe for the dietary supplements with adaptogenic effects, production, and subsequent analysis (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates), which led to the determination of the energetic value of preparation. Adaptogenic effects are the domain of plants and fungi, known as adaptogens. Adaptogens act non-specifically to the human body - improve the overall condition of the body, accelerate healing and regenerative processes, slow degenerative processes in the body and thus the aging process. As biogenic active stimulators, they affect not only in the physical but also in mental area. Dietary supplements have been designed in three different forms - capsules, syrup, drops. The analysis was also performed in tablets of Vietnamese origin supplied by supervizor, of which entry to our market is being considered. Protein content was determined by Kjeldahl method, lipids by Soxhlet extraction, saccharides by gravimetric method. Dietary supplements were analyzed for heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg), and in herbal drops ethanol content was determined.
In vitro study of antioxidant activity of food supplements

Bachelor thesis deals with the determination of antioxidant activity of food supplements in vitro. The theoretical part focuses on legislative requirements of food supplements, their characteristic and classification. Further, the attention is also devoted to antioxidants, their properties, effects, importance and utilization. Separate chapter describes herbs, which are an essential component of researched supplements, their effects and properties. For experimental part several food supplements in various forms (capsule, tea, juice, dried fruits) were chosen and total content of polyphenols was determined using the UV-VIS spectroscopy. Further, the total antioxidant activity is characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance involving DPPH method.
Probiotic lactic acid bacteria in food products

In food industry molecular genetic methods based on DNA analysis are used for identification of probiotic microorganisms. An example of these methods is the polymerase chain reaction, in which specific fragments of DNA are amplified using short oligonucleotide primers. The teoretical part of this bachelor thesis follows probiotic bacteria, their features, beneficial health effects and use in food and clinical applications. The experimental part of the thesis focuses on an analysis of two probiotic dietary supplements. DNA was isolated from these products by method of phenol extraction. The use of PCR confirmed the presence of DNA of probiotic bacteria of genera Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.

The diploma thesis explores consumer behaviour in the dietary supplements market with the aim of identifying factors influencing consumer behaviour in this market. A sub-objective is to investigate whether a framing effect influences consumers' decisions and purchases of dietary supplements. The theoretical part delves into fundamental concepts related to the researched topic, while the analytical part includes the analysis of both secondary and primary data. Based on the results obtained from these analyses, recommendations are proposed for business entities operating in the dietary supplement market.

The diploma thesis forms an overview of the most commonly used dietary supplements in the MMA sports industry. The effects and metabolism of BCAA supplements and creatine monohydrate are discussed in detail in this thesis. These two mentioned supplements are also included in the practical part of the work, in which I examined their influence on the body composition of the probands. There is also a questionnaire survey that concerns strength during training and the subjective feelings of athletes during exercise while using selected food supplements. Measurement and evaluation of InBody outputs revealed changes in body composition during BCAA and creatine monohydrate use. I also managed to confirm an increase in strength during train-ing when supplementing with creatine monohydrate.
Vitamins and dietary supplements in the nutrition of patients with hematopoietic disorders

This bachelor's thesis deals with the possible beneficial effects of vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements that could positively influence the course of treatment of blood cancers. In addition to vitamins and minerals, dietary supplements for the purposes of this thesis include various food supplements that can be purchased in pharmacies, as well as foods or spices, herbs and mushrooms that can be purchased in regular grocery stores. The main objective of the study was to find out whether patients take any of these selected supplements during treatment. The secondary aim of this work was to get an idea about the patients' awareness, their choice of food supplements that they purchase and how they themselves evaluate the effect of these supplements on their health status. The theoretical part deals with the brief characteristics of the most common haemato- oncological diseases of patients visiting the specialist departments of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague (VFN). In the theoretical part, this thesis also deals with a total of 57 different supplements (9 vitamins, 6 minerals, 15 food supplements and 27 different foods, spices, herbs and mushrooms) that could have positive effects in the treatment of these serious diseases, as reported in the scientific literature and also in the popular...
Awareness of women with endometriosis about influence of nutrition factors on this disease

Endometriosis is chronical, inflammatory and very painful disease which contains with estrogen. This disease affect about 10 % of female population in childbearing age. Etiology and pathogenesis of this illness is largely unkown. 20-40 % of women who suffer from endometriosis have concurrent problems with sterility and 50 % of women suffer from various forms of sexual dysfunction, the most common of which is pain. It is assumed that, that symptoms of endometriosis might be affected by diet interventions. Objectives of this thesis: 1. Determine awerness of women in fertile age with endometriosis about influence of nutritional factors on this disease. 2. Determine, if women with endometriosis were instructed by their doctor (gynecologist) about influence of nutritional factors on this disease. 3. Determine, if women with endometriosis changed their eating habits. Part of the research were 212 women with diagnosed endometriosis, which were addresed with using of questionnaire in Nemocnice České Budějovice and electronical questionnaires. The bachelor thesis is focused on the evaluation of the performance of a company engaged in the custom manufacturing of dietary supplements. The thesis is divided into theoretical, computational and evaluation parts. To evaluate the performance, selected indicators of financial analysis, their systems, economic value added, and finally strategic SWOT analysis are used. In the last part, the development of each indicator is evaluated using graphs, compared with industry averages, recommended values and among themselves.

The issue of vitamin D in elite sport

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that can be synthesized in the skin after exposure to sunlight or obtained through food or supplements. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 14 days of sun exposure in an area with higher levels of UV radiation (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) on vitamin D concentrations in a selected group of water slalom athletes and to further evaluate the changes in concentrations after a further 14 and 30 days after return. Data for the study were obtained by using four blood draws and comparing the average vitamin D concentration between the blood draws. Eleven elite athletes aged 18-35 years who were not taking vitamin D supplements participated in the study. The results showed that before the intervention, the athletes had average vitamin D levels lower (69.4 nmol/l) than the lower reference limit set at 75 nmol/l. Exposure to sunlight for 14 days resulted in a significant increase in vitamin D concentration, with an average increase of 10.8 nmol/l in the study group. Upon return to the Czech Republic, the vitamin D level increased slightly by an average of 0.7 nmol/l for 14 days, but this increase was not statistically significant compared to the previous sampling.
