Současná britská debata o možném vystoupení z Evropské unie

This thesis deals with the current topic of the possible departure of Britain from the European Union and its position in the context of integration. Work first introduces the development of the relationship of Great Britain to the European Union since the Second World War to the present. Aim of the study is to clarify the reasons that explain the current debate about the leaving of the country from Union. Following comparative part, which are compared attitudes of contemporary British political parties with regard to their preference to remain in or leave from the European Union. The thesis also examines the process of withdrawal of a member state of the European Union enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty, and in this part of providing alternative opportunities of withdrawal of member state from European Union and their examples in specific countries in Europe. The final part discusses the potential political consequences on the Great Britain in the event of a departure from integration and mentions the possible scenarios for the European Union if Great Britain would leave it.

Media Image of Brexit in Scotland

This Bachelor thesis deals with media image of Brexit in Scottish media, particularly in three chosen newspapers The Herald, The Scotsman and Daily Record, considering specificities of the Scottish culture. The thesis focuses especially on reactions in opinion articles towards the referendum about leaving the European Union and coherent separatistic atmosphere one month before and after the historical voting (from 23rd May until 23rd July 2016). Firstly, this thesis provides theoretical facts including the historical context, a description of a political situation in the UK and Scottish culture or a definition media background in Scotland. The author assumes referring of authors of opinion articles about Brexit was crucially influenced by the perception of "Scottishness", which defines Scots from their British neighbours, most importantly Englishmen.The goal of the thesis is not to discover, how many articles were published but what were the most often mentioned topics, what Scottish authors regarded as important and how did they face the idea of Scottish independence in connection with the results of the Brexit referendum.

Differentiated integration in the EU : the British approach to EMU fiscal rules

The thesis focuses on the British approach to EMU fiscal rules. Theoretical and conceptual framework is based on the theory of differentiated integration dealing with a various forms of closer cooperation among EU Member States. The research is built on the theoretical approach as described by Frank Schimmelfennig, Dirk Leuffen and Berthold Rittberger. Authors provide an analysis of conditions of differentiated integration within the EU. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question of why the United Kingdom decided not to participate in the fiscal compact and, consequently, did not allow further differentiated integration within the treaties (which led to an arrangement outside the EU legal framework) while accepting the initial fiscal rules agreed in the 1990s as well as other crisis reforms of EU fiscal governance. The first part describes Maastricht and SGP fiscal rules and analyses both the UK's position within EMU and the SGP provisions applied to the UK. The next chapter examines the British approach towards both the SGP revisions and the Euro Plus Pact. The third part analyses the new fiscal compact and explains why the UK decided to use the veto. In conclusion, the thesis provides an answer to the research question as set down in the introduction.

Interpretations of a negative result of the British parliament vote on military intervention in Syria

On August 21 2013 a massive chemical attack took place in Syria. On the basis of the attack the British Prime Minister convened parliament and asked the House of Commons for the approval of a military intervention in Syria. The government motion was however disapproved by 285:272 votes and therefore the possible military intervention and the further voting on this issue was blocked. Right after the vote a series of possible causes and consequences occurred. This bachelor thesis "Interpretations of a negative result of the British parliament vote on military intervention in Syria" tries to systematically analyze possible causes and identify the main factors, which contributed to the negative result. Then it tries to justify why Britain as a country with long history of humanitarian intervention refused to intervene in a country where one of the greatest humanitarian crisis of the 21st century takes place. Moreover when a military intervention in Libya took place under the current government. At the same time the bachelor thesis puts an emphasis on the character of the Syrian conflict, British political discourse in the context of a military intervention and experience with foreign-political interventions. British Commercial Diplomacy: Is Cameron’s strategy competitive

The thesis is focusing on commercial diplomacy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain during the coalition government of David Cameron between 2010 - 2015. In globalized world, where the commercial diplomacy is done by not only state actors but also private ones, management of commercial diplomacy as well as priorities and strategies play crucial role. The Thesis analyses structure of the system and includes case study of British commercial diplomacy in the Czech Republic. Based on theoretical acknowledgments we can evaluate the of British Commercial Diplomacy in the reporting period which was affected by economic crisis.

Use of Political Marketing in Reinventing the British Conservative Party

The subject of this thesis is The Conservative Party and its use of political marketing. The text analyzes how the Party responded to three subsequent election defeats in 1997, 2001 and 2005 and to what extent are the Conservatives utilizing political marketing methods and techniques in reaction to the pressure from their more market oriented competitor, the Labour Party. Since the rebranding of the Labour Party under Tony Blair, the Conservatives were struggling to adapt to the new reality. Instead of utilizing political marketing and being more responsive to the wishes of the electorate they diverged their polities more to the right. However, their incumbent leader, David Cameron, is transforming the Party and making it more market oriented. These efforts are critically analyzed.
