Comparison of selected catechetical aids in connection with the sacrament of Confirmation

This thesis "Comparison of selected catechist tools in connection with the sacrament of Confirmation" compares selected catechist books regarding the criteria related to theological, anthropological and catechist themes. The first part presents theological themes - it includes the form and quality of informing about the Holy Spirit and its demonstration in the Old and New Testament, as well as liturgical demonstration of the Church in connection with the Holy Spirit and the dimension of symbols. Further it covers the relation of the Holy Trinity to the sacraments and the close relation of the initiation sacraments with its effect on the receiver. It also deals with the position of catechism in relation to evangelisation and the fact how its structure reflects the catechumen's faith. The second part describes anthropological themes - it focuses on the natural behaviour of the humans, their relation to rituals, on the process of maturing and the importance of a community in the life of a human being from the point of view of faith and religious experience. In the third part we compare the contents and the tasks of the catechisms in the selected catechist tools. The Strong and the Weak in Romans 14-15

The present diploma thesis is an exegetical attempt to interpret Paul's parenesis in his Letter to the Romans 14,1-15,13. It tries to find answers to the following questions: Who are the "strong in faith" (15:1)? Who are the "weak in faith" (14:1)? What "day" is meant in chapter 14:5? What kind of dietary restrictions are in the background of 14:2? What is the solution that Paul suggests? The analysis has led to the following conclusions: Paul is trying to resolve a particular dispute between two groups of believers in Rome. The "weak" probably had a problem with the "strong" eating the meat and drinking the wine defiled with idolatry (14:21) and not keeping fasting days, or certain Jewish feast days (14:3). So, the "weak" may be identified as the Jewish Christians and the "strong" with the Christians of gentile origins. Paul tries to move both groups away from judging each other (14:3) to respect the opinion of the other group (14:4) and leads them above all to mutually build loving relationships to each other (14:19). Eschatology in the case of eminent personalities in the Bohemian Reformatory movement

The work offers a comprehensive preview of opinion streams on the theme of eschatology, final things or also the end of time , in various stages of the development of human society, whether Jewish or Christian, with an emphasis on the medieval period in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. Iťs based on the biblical texts of the Old and New Testaments, particularly on the New T estament text of the Book of Revelations. It deals with religious situation in the Middle Ages and simultaneously also with political, cultural and social factors. It reveals certain sources of heretical teachings, especially the Vaudois Church, from which eminent theologists' opinions crystallized and mentions the status of heretics in medieval society. It also covers the teachings of John Wycliffe. The work is divided into six parts, in which eschatological moods and vision that reigned i n contemporary societies are substantiated. It analyses them, and literary woeks document the main ideas and opinions of eminent reformátory scholars, such as for example Milíč of Kroměříž, Matěj of Janov, Master Jan Hus and Petr Chelčický. The Doctrine of Antichrist and the Coming of Christ at the Beginning of the Unity of Brethren and its Roots in the Czech Reformation

This thesis provides a balanced overview of the active ideological currents in the late Middle Ages in the Czech lands concerning the doctrine of the Antichrist and the second coming of Christ. It not only deals with the religious situation during that period, but also emphasises the political, cultural and social circumstances. The text is divided into seven parts that discuss the apocalyptic sentiment and the eschatological visions prevalent in society in that period. Presented in it are the principal ideas of such prominent reformist scholars and thinkers as Jan Milíč of Kroměříž, Master Jan Hus, Jan Rokycan and Petr Chelčický. The text charts the teachings of these men, as they followed one another, concerning the issues of the concept of the Antichrist and the coming of Christ up to the period of the Hussite revolutionary movement and even later, during the early days of the Unity of Brethren. Special attention is also given to the spiritual circumstances involved in the founding of the Unity of Brethren; there the roots of its founding and its beginnings and its distinctive features are documented in the thesis. Comenius' Consolatory Writings

The submitted work deals with Comenius' consolatory writings. The writings included in the third volume of The Works of Jan Amos Komenský served, in particular, for acquaintance with the consolatory writings. The work examines the subject matter in four parts. At first it explains the historical and personal basis of Comenius' consolatory writings. It shows the brethren priest as a faithful shepherd of the church who in his writings consoles and encourages his sorrowful companions during an exceptionally tempestuous period. It also offers a general overview of Comenius' consolatory literature and a basic description of the individual works, including complementary information. In a special part it focusses on consolatory works as a separate literary genre, their historical development and linkage of Comenius' consolatory works, with emphasis on their theological foundation and practical aim. In the work there is also a literary and theological analysis of a selected consolatory work called Letters to Heaven, in which the author deals with the age-old question of theodicy from the aspect of Christian faith against the background of property inequality. Christ's prototypes in Isaac and Joseph Egyptian

Bachelor thesis "Christ's prototypes in Isaac and Joseph Egyptian" shows through hermeneutical principle of spiritual interpretation of the Scripture how two significant patriarch figures of Israel nation - Isaac and Joseph - herald the New Testament image of human Jesus Christ in particular in the context of his redemption of Easter. After a short reflection of the relation between the Old and New Testament the study passes to the analysis of the particular key texts: oblation of Isaac in Gn 22 and the longer and coherent narration about Joseph in Gn 37; 39 - 45, in context with Gn 37 - 50. As to the firs patriarch Isaac, the sacrifice of the son strikes very deeply his father Abraham, but he obeys the word of God. We can see the same obedience also in the sacrifice of the son of God and in the desire of the Heavenly Father that people have faith based on recognition of the truth of God's love. As regards the second patriarch Joseph, the rejected son becomes a promise and hope for the life of many people from different nations and even a reason for a conversion of brothers. The analogy witha Christian soteriology is obvious and intentional.

Iconographic motifs in František Bílek's work

Kamila Matějková: Ikonografické motivy v díle Františka Bílka Abstract The bachelor thesis "Iconographic motifs in the František Bílek's work" is dealing with František Bílek's work, from the iconographical point of view in particular. It divides Bílek's work into thematic groups according to the basic iconographic motifs and attempts to determine from what the author is based. First, the situation of Czech art at the end of 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century and the place of František Bílek's work in that environment is outlined. After that, the attention is focused on Bílek's relationship to art and his individual spiritual conception. Further Bílek's artistic means are explored. The main part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of particular iconographic themes which are present in František Bílek's work. The motif of Christ, the motif of the Virgin Mary, Old Testament motifs, human motive, tree motive and national themes (Hussites, the Unity of the Brethren) are gradually followed. At the end of this work the attention is paid to motifs which are influenced by Otokar Březina's literary work.

Diploma work "The exclusivity of God's revelation according to the Bible and the relationship to other world religions namely Islam and Buddhism" is about comparison between the Biblical revelation and the basic faith statements of others religions particularly Islam and Buddhism. The work also tries to answer the question if the Bible expresses the exclusivity by itself and in which area the exclusivity is the most significant for the life of believers. The aim of this work is also to look for spiritual principles that could be common with other religions as well as the principles that lead to disconnection between these religions. In the end, the work is concerning the possible ways of inter religion discussion in the context of world religion systems.

The picture of Jan Palach in czech culture

This thesis deals with cultural image of Jan Palach. It focuses especially on symbols and myths contributing to construction of this image. The main emphasis is given on the concept of sacrifice - the study analyzes comparisons of Jan Palach to archetypes of Jesus Christ and young martyrs. In the second part author analyzes national dimension of Palach's cultural image. She deals with comparison of Palach to Jan Hus and analyzes Palach's funeral as a part of tradition of Czech public funerals - quiet national demonstrations. The methodology of the study is discourse analysis, which is applied not only on texts (fiction and nonfiction), but also on photographic and film footage.
