Anděl, Jiří ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mlsna, Petr (referee)
ANDĚL, Jiří: Podíl CDU/CSU na vzniku německé Energiewende. Praha 2015. 32 s. Bakalářská práce (Bc.). Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut mezinárodních studií. Katedra německých a rakouských studií. Vedoucí práce PhDr. Tomáš Nigrin, Ph.D. Abstract A wide range of changes in the German energy sector, known under the name Energiewende, is associated primarily with the government of the Red-Green Coalition ruling in the period 1998 - 2005. Although the then government of the Social Democrats and the Greens introduced the whole concept, the centre-right government of Helmut Kohl, the predecessor of the Red-Green Coalition and the government of Angela Merkel in the years 2009 - 2013, helped significantly to implement Energiewende. The thesis is focused mainly on 3 factors with which the government of H. Kohl and A. Merkel contributed to the implementation of Energiewende. It is the introduction of the Act on the promotion of renewable energy sources from 1991, the climate policy of H. Kohl and the nuclear phase out of A. Merkel from 2011. The thesis also examines the relevance of the aforementioned steps in relation to the whole energy concept. The next part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of possible motives that could have influenced the individual steps. As far as the importance is...
The Political Rise of Angela Merkel on the Backround of the CDU Donations Scandal in 1999
Rubriciusová, Alžběta ; Picka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Angela Merkel, the current German chancellor, is one of the most important politicians of today. She has been involved in politics for 23 years and has held the post of the leader of CDU since 2000. Merkel' political start in the early 1990s was fast and had its climax in the CDU donations scandal which shook the foundations of the political party at the turn of the millennium. This bachelor thesis examines to what extent was this period of time crucial for Merkel's future political career and her steps. The donations scandal led to the party's financial crisis and fundamental staff changes. It damaged the party's image. This thesis will also deal with Helmut Kohl and his retirement from politics which was to a large extent provoked by the scandal and Merkel's role in it. This paradox, stemming from the fact that Kohl was Merkel's mentor since she entered politics, will be investigated. Merkel's political style will be analysed on the basis of her conduct in 1999. The role of German media was crucial in regards to the financial scandal and therefore will be analysed as well. The reflection of Czech media from that time will exemplify the importance of the CDU donations scandal for Merkel's career.
European policy of the Angela Merkel's administration 2005-2010. Comparison of the european policies of the "big coalition" 2005-09 and the conservative-liberal coalition 2009-10
Říšová, Zuzana ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the European politics of the Federal Republic of Germany during the government of the Angela Merkel's cabinets. The thesis is focusing on the time period from 2005 to winter 2010/2011. This period can be split into two parts: 1) the government of the big coalition of the "Union" parties (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democrats (SPD) and 2) the current conservative-liberal coalition of CDU/CSU and the Liberals (FDP). The aim of the thesis is to compare both the cabinets concerning on their priorities in chosen areas of the European politics, as well as the particular steps taken. Several case studies show that the European politics of the Angela Merkel's big coalition can be evaluated as considerably pro-integration and cooperative. The Chancellor improved the Germany's relationship to the middle- and eastern European countries and significantly contributed to the discussion of the new European reform treaty. This resulted into a stronger position of Germany in Europe. The government period of the conservative-liberal coalition is connected with the ending world economic and financial crisis and the economic problems of several member states of the Euro zone. The analysis of this period confirms the hypothesis that facing this situation, the European politics of the...
Securitization of Immigration and Multiculturalism: The Case Study of Germany
Nguyen, Van Anh ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the process of securitization of immigration and multiculturalism within the framework of migration, immigration and integration policies focusing on the case of Germany. Using the migration-security nexus as a primary theoretical foundation, I argue that within the policies and legislations related to immigration, German governments ultimately perceive immigration as a threat at the level of state security as well as Germany's national identity. The first government I have selected for my analysis is the cabinet led by Gerhard Schröder (1998 - 2005) who challenged the romanticized perception of the German nation as a "nation of descent" by saying that "Germany is a country of immigration." Secondly, I focus on the chancellorship of Angela Merkel whose approach toward the Syrian asylum seekers in the context of the current migration crisis (9/2015 - 11/2016) has been called "Wilkommenskutlur" (or "Welcome culture"). Nonetheless, by studying the policies related to immigration as well as governments' discourses, I argue that in both cases, immigration and multiculturalism are indeed linked to security issues. Hence, immigrants are perceived as a threat to Germany's national security and its identity.
