Origin, inheritance and ecological sygnificance of apomixis in the genus Hieracium s.str.: the role of genetic and epigenetic mechanims
Pinc, Jan ; Mráz, Patrik (advisor) ; Hojsgaard, Diego (referee) ; Mandák, Bohumil (referee)
Apomixis (asexual reproduction by seeds) has the considerable potential in agriculture and crop breeding due to its ability to produce genetically identical progenies in a form of persistent propagules, i.e. seeds. However, the processes laying behind the origin of apomixis and connected molecular mechanisms are still unknown. Despite the fact, that apomicts are considered to be an evolutionary dead-ends, they are often more widely distributed than their sexual relatives (this phenomenon is commonly referred to as geographical parthenogenesis (GP). Although this phenomenon is studied for decades, its causes are still not fully understood. Importantly, several recent studies pointed out that apomicts with limited genetic variability can at some extent react to changing environment through changes in gene transcription by epigenetic modifications. It is generally assumed, that hybridisation and polyploidization played a crucial role in the emergence of apomixis. For this reason, presented studies test the putative origin of selected polyploid apomicts and if the interspecific hybridisation between diploid sexuals triggers polyploidization using predominantly polyploid and apomictic genus Hieracium s. str. Surprisingly, the presented study demonstrates the hybrid origin of almost all investigated...

Historický vývoj a možnosti pěstování fíkovníku smokvoně (Ficus carica L.) v podmínkách ČR.
Malárová, Michaela
This bachelor thesis is focused on the history of growing common fig Ficus carica L. in our country, characterizes fig tree greenhouses with the best known examples, deals with the issue of fig tree adaptability in relation to growth physiology, the course of dormancy and frost resistence. The thesis defines the sum of chilling hours and compares them with other fruit species. After evaluating the available information, it can be stated that due to its ability to adapt to climatic conditions, the fig tree can be grown in outdoor cultures all year round in the warmest regions of the Czech Republic.
Generic Decentralized Self-Adaptive Context-Aware Architecture Model

The physiological and proteomic characterisation of winter oilseed rape upon abiotic stress
Urban, Milan ; Vítámvás, Pavel (advisor) ; Hnilička, František (referee) ; Valentová, Olga (referee)
- Ph.D. thesis - Milan Urban, 2017 In some years, the agricultural production of oilseed rape, an important crop in the Czech Republic, is - besides biotic stress - facing the problem of damage caused by frost or drought. Together with special attention paid to proteins revealing responses between crop genotypes with differential abiotic stress tolerance levels we reviewed possible applications of proteomic results in crop breeding programs aimed at an improvement of crop stress tolerance (paper 1). For first original result, cold temperature was imposed upon non-vernalized plants in the stage of leaf rosette. The article (paper 2) shows a significant correlation between frost tolerance (FT), dehydrin (DHN) accumulation, and photosynthetic acclimation in five cultivars (cvs). Newly, the specific DHN D97 was shown to accumulate and other DHNs were shown to have qualitative differences in accumulation. These results imply that proper FT assessment is based on rapid photosynthetic acclimation together with higher accumulation of protective compounds. Drought stress (paper 3) was imposed in the water- demanding stem prolongation phase before flowering, because late-spring drought before and during flowering decreases the yield and seed quality significantly. This paper newly describes two water-uptake...
The Adaptation Process of the Senior in the Home for Elderly Pohoda
BABŮRKOVÁ, Veronika
The present Bachelor thesis analyses the adaptation process of seniors in the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. Even in the last stage of their life, everyone has a right to retain dignity in their life, accompanied with happiness and contentment. If an old-aged person depends on assistance provided by an institutional care, entering a home for seniors brings with it a significant change of his or her life. For an old-aged person, this period is interconnected with risk factors and should be directed at a hassle-free integration of the old-aged person in a new environment and a smooth adaptation to conditions of a home for seniors. The theoretical part of the thesis is engaged in the processes of old age and aging, importance of the family and values of a human life. In addition, the theoretical part provides characteristics of a home for seniors, introducing briefly the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. A separate chapter is concerned with the adaptation process, delineation of a social worker, including communication as an important component of the work with seniors. The objective of the Bachelor thesis is to map the factors decisively influencing the adaptation process after coming to the Home for elderly Pohoda in Netolice. The empirical part relies on the method of qualitative research, the basic technique of semi-structured interview and the clustering technique. Respondents were chosen by the intentional quota sampling method. The main research question was postulated for this thesis as follows: What factors have the decisive influence on the adaptation process after joining a home for seniors? Results of our research have revealed that it is important to be given an opportunity to prepare for coming to a home for seniors. The switch-over to the life in the home for seniors was much easier for those who were given a certain period of time to enable them to put up with joining a home for seniors. For seniors, the main symbol in their life is the family, which brings a feeling of security and contributes significantly to the process of overcoming a difficult period in the life of an old-aged person. The research proved the importance of activation activities, which motivate an old-aged person for his or her independence and self-sufficiency. Results of the present thesis may serve, in particular, to employees of the specific home for seniors, and should improve the life of seniors when joining the home for seniors. Last but not least, the results should contribute to awareness of importance of the adaptation process, when a sensitive and emphatic approach of the staff and family members is the constituent element in the process of adaptation to a new environment and new life of seniors.
