Rationing in Czechoslovakia in the years 1948-1953
Petrák, Aleš ; Johnson, Zdenka (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
This thesis is focused on the rationing in Czechoslovakia in the years 1948-1953. The thesis is divided into four main parts which correspond to the basic topics of the thesis. The first part is focused on the previous development. This part concludes that rationing systems in Czechoslovakia were quite similar to each other. The existence of captive market and "free" market at the same time was specific for rationing in the years 1949-53. The second section describes the positive public reception of this specific situation. The reduction of the black market is also mentioned. However this situation was not sustainable for a long time. Significant change of the system was made in 1952. Various proposals were made to unify the two markets. Dolanský's proposal is described as an example. However this proposal wasn't implemented due to the monetary reform in 1953. The existence of a captive market demonstrated problems in distribution. Christmas extra packages and shopping spree in 1950 are the examples of these problems. The last section describes abuse of rationing by the Communist Party for general persecution of specific social groups.

Black market for tickets to sports and cultural events: an error or intention?
Šoral, Dalibor ; Šťastný, Daniel (advisor) ; Chytilová, Helena (referee)
Black market for tickets to sports and cultural events presents a widespread problem. The existence of this phenomenon leaves a question open whether this phenomenon has been deliberately generated by managers and organizers who then benefit from it or whether this phenomenon arises as a side effect of mispricing. My paper is exploring the black market in the Czech Republic for tickets to football matches, theater performances and concerts of popular music. Prices are set at levels lower than the equilibrium level, managers and organizers pursue other interest than profit maximizing from admission. The black market is not supported because of profit maximization; on the other hand there is no motivation to prevent it. Costs of avoidance could be higher than loss income.
Do czech dealers of marihuana live at theirs moms?
Hvězda, Mikuláš ; Šťastný, Daniel (advisor) ; Bartoň, Petr (referee)
This thesis is focusing on risk premium of retail dealer of marihuana. My work is based on a questionnaire research between retail dealers. Firstly I specify a hourly wage of a dealer, which is 250 CZK/h. Afterwards I compare resulting wage with a wage in the legitimate sector and the difference between the dealer`s wage and the legitimate wage is the risk premium caused by trading on black market. The results show that the risk premium makes 52 % of the dealer`s wage. Another issue I`m focusing on are causes of risk premium and their quantification. Finally I am explaining the fall of retail prices between 2007 and 2008 when the prices fell from 250 to 200 CZK/g.

The demand for kidney transplantation is constantly raising. There is an organ shortage on the market, because the supply of suitable organs for transplantation is smaller than demanded quantity. The aim of this paper is to point out solution for elimination of kidney shortage and to analyse well known objecions against the legal trade with human organs. Analytical part of this paper is based on data from Iran, where the kidney purchase is possible. After kidney trade legalization the waiting list for transplants was eliminated. Excess of demand can be removed with allowance of considerable valuation for kidney, which is shown on example of Iran.

Flegr, Jan ; Hudík, Marek (advisor) ; Bartoň, Petr (referee)
This paper examines the impact of drug prohibition on society. It analyzes starting-points and aims of prohibition and shows, how prohibition attempts to achieve its goals. Furthermore, it explores social costs of prohibition, mainly the impact on potencial health risks of drug use and property and violent crimes. Then it presents main reasons of failure to achieve its goals. Furthemore, this paper estimates probable budgetary implications of marijuana legalization. This estimate is based on quantification of direct costs of marijuana law enforcement. Finally, it estimates the tax revenue that would result from marijuana legalization. For this purpose it also estimates the impact of legalization on price and consumption of marijuana.

Nakonec uvede příklady některých legalizačních, regulačních a prohibičních opatření a evaluuje je, zda vedla či nevedla ke svým předem definovaným cílům a zda nevyplývají z ekonomických teorií efektivnější alternativní řešení.
