Finds of Human Skeletal Remains within Settlements of Early and Late Bronze Age in Central Bohemia
Malyková, Drahomíra ; Bouzek, Jan (advisor) ; Stloukal, Milan (referee) ; Smejtek, Lubor (referee)
This dissertation aims to provide a survey of periphrastic aspectual constructions in contemporary European Portuguese. The research was initially conducted on periphrastic constructions in the two main Portuguese corpuses, the CETEMPúblico and the Corpus do Portugus, and was then followed by a semantic analysis. The main problem, according to the author, consists in the fundamentally different conceptions of aspect and the nature of verbal action in Czech and Portuguese. Given that the grammatical category of aspect has different contents in Czech and Portuguese, it is preferable to use the term aspectuality as a three-layer system of interacting categories of aspect, telicity, and the nature of verbal action. If the traditional Slavic aspect is to be expressed in Portuguese by other means at various levels of construction, Czech lacks a way to render the variety of meanings of Portuguese periphrastic constructions that represent the different categories of the nature of verbal action (Aktionsart). In the dissertation, aspectuality in Portuguese is considered a system of mutually correlated categories - aspect, the nature of verbal action, and the lexical semantics of the verb. In Portuguese, the category of the nature of verbal action employs specific means that can be separated from morphological means...

Condition dependence of secondary ornamentation and mate choice in Grey Partridges
Gabrielová, Barbora ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Sedláček, Ondřej (referee)
This study focuses on relationships between individual condition, measures of ornament expression and mate choice in the Grey Partridge (Perdix perdix). It is based on the correlative data as well as results of manipulative experiments. I found positive correlation between the size of melanin- and carotenoid-based ornaments in partridges. The size and the redness of the carotenoid skin patch, and the size of the melanin-based feather ornamentation were associated with several measures of immunity and overall body condition (complement activity, ratio of immature erythrocytes, heterophil/leucocyte ratio, response to novel antigen). Furthermore, data from natural populations indicate that the expression of carotenoid-based ornamentation is associated with sexual attractiveness (measured as the ability to obtain a social mate) in partridges. Data from captive individuals indicate that carotenoid supplementation improves the redness of carotenoid-based ornament, while the stimulation of the immune system under increasing concentrations of supplemented carotenoids has no measurable effect on condition and physiological state. This seems to contradict predictions of the 'Carotenoid maintenance hypothesis'. Overall, results better understanding the role of carotenoid and melanin-based ornamentation in signaling...

Church Music of Johann Sebastian Bach
Staňková, Eva ; Tvrdek, Petr (advisor) ; Špačková, Alena (referee)
Annotation: Málková, Eva. Church Music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Prague: Hussite Theological Faculty, Charles University, 2012. Thesis. The aim of this thesis is to introduce church music of Johann Sebastian Bach and its theological announcement. By looking up and appraising musical-theological elements at Bach's work this thesis brings near to the reader the theological, philosophical and mystic thinking of Bach. By pre-understanding and complexity of perception of Bach's church music is possible to see deep sense and aim of artist's work. In the first (theoretical) part I am engaged in systems of thinking that could Bach's church work influence. Then I am specifying the pieces that are supposed to be church music. In the second (practical) part I am looking for musical- theological elements that could Bach be influenced with. By researching of Bach's artistic style I am trying to find correlation of musical and theological contents and I am trying to point out that the message of Bach's church work is relevant.

The theoretical part is focused on qualitative content analysis of relevant specialized literature. This thesis defines history and development of aquaristics in the world, as well as in our country, and compares current and past aquarium equipment and methods. In this work are presented and described current trends in modern aquaristics. The text is complemented by contemporary drawings and layouts of historical and recent equipment and technology. The research part is focused on data obtained from quantitative content analysis of aquarium publications, where is observed frequency of mentions in the text of particular species of aquarium fish. At the same time the results are compared with the content analysis of statistical data of aquaristics portals aimed at the real preferences of breeders. From the conclusion results that in their articles the authors preferred some of the selected families in each of the examined periods. Most preferred family was Cichlidae, Characidae and Cyprinidae. However, often presented species of aquarium fish do not correlate with the real preferences of modern...

Criteria influencing the selection of leisure activities for convicts in Prison Plzeň
FOLDOVÁ, Linda
This thesis is aimed at the criteria influencing the choice of leisure activities for Plzeň Prison convicted. Is there a correlation between the selection of the type of leisure activities and the type of crime for which the accused was convicted? If so what and why? The theoretical part describes the historical development of the Czech Prison and history of Plzeň Prison and development of leisure activities. It also describes the possible psychosocial factors influencing the selection of these activities. The second practical part of this thesis contains a survey of prisoners Pilsen and its results. The survey was compiled on the basis of the theoretical part of this thesis and related information from the bachelor thesis. The themes of interviews were: social life - facilities, leisure time spent with family and friends, aspects affecting their free time and leisure activities in Plzeň Prison in certain sections. The main objective of the survey was to find out if there is the relationship (correlation) between the selection of leisure activities and crime for which they are placed in prison. In total were interviewed twenty Sentenced Prisoners in Plzeň Prison.) The results of this research are as follows. There wasn't find any correlation between the selection of leisure activity and type of crime. This means according this research we cannot say that convicted person for property crimes prefers educational/soft activities and sentenced for violent crimes sport. But in the details, we can find some specific patterns in selection of leisure activities

John Steinbeck's treatment of loneliness - a biographical and fictional experience - an analysis of loneliness in Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row and Of Mice and Men
Purkrábková, Petra ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Farrell, Mark Robert (referee)
"Every man's work, whether it be literature, or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself." (Butler) The aim of this thesis is to put forward the importance of the author behind the book and to see clearly the effect of an author's life upon his work. The theme in focus is loneliness. This theme is to be analyzed in a dual manner. Firstly as an account of Steinbeck's own experience of loneliness. Secondly as a theme of focus in the novels; Of Mice and Men, Cannery Row and Tortilla Flat. Where applicable, a correlation between the author's own experience of loneliness and the struggle of his characters is to be highlighted. This thesis is separated into five parts. The initial part is a brief definition of loneliness which serves the purpose of introducing the theme of study. It also states the terms that will be used throughout the thesis. The second part is an analysis of Steinbeck's own experience of loneliness as obtained through a compilation of his letters. These two parts conclude the theoretic background of John Steinbeck and his intimate relation to the phenomenon of loneliness. The further three parts are analyses of the three listed novels. The focus is on each applicable character and his/her portrayal of loneliness. By analysing each individual...

Color of Body by Dytiscidae: Variability and Possible Function
HOKROVÁ, Monika
The aim of this thesis was to establish a photographic database of selected species of diving beetles (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) and use image analysis to characterize the number and extent of colour spots. Altogether 52 species were analyzed. They were classified into fourgroups based on their environmental characteristics provided in the Catalogue of water beetles of Czech Republic. The results confirmedthe hypothesis that the colour of adult diving beetles is correlated to their habitat preferences.

English modal verb "shall", its meanings and Czech counterparts
Horálek, Štěpán ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Malá, Markéta (referee)
This study focuses on the English modal verb SHALL, which is nowadays on the decline especially in American English, and explores its meanings and translational counterparts in Czech. The theoretical chapter of the study will first present a brief overview of the concept of modality and English modals and then comment specifically on the uses of SHALL as a deontic modal and a future auxiliary. Likewise, an overview of its meanings as well as its formal criteria will be presented. Additionally, a remark on frequency of SHALL will be made and the situation in Czech will be outlined. In the empirical chapter of the study, 128 occurrences of SHALL provided by the corpus Intercrop will be analyzed in two stages. First, the occurrences will be studied according to the meanings of SHALL described in the theoretical part and then their Czech translational correlates will be taken into focus. The conclusion will summarize and evaluate the findings from the empirical chapter and will combine the results of the two analyses in order to present an overview of the Czech counterparts of SHALL according to its meanings.

Theoretical characterization of reaction center of photosystem
Vokáčová, Zuzana
Spectral properties of reaction center of photosystem II (RC PS II) and some chosen pigment molecules were studied by methods of quantum chemistry. Absorption spectra of six monomer unit of RC PS II were computed with semiempirical method and on the DFT level. Spectra of monomers obtained by the semiepirical ZINDO method are red shifted and spectra obtained by TDDFT are blue shifted from measured spectrum of chlorophyll a. The shift is a result of applied method. Next, electron transitions of chosen part of chlorophyll-pheophytin complex of RC PS II were obtained by semiempirical method. A goal was to describe differences, which follows from enlarging size of the reaction complex. A difference in the spectra correlates with various groups of pigments, which belong to active and inactive branches. Red shift of spectral lines was found only for the central dimer in comparison with electron transitions of chlorophyll a. Spectra of selected pigment molecules (chlorophylls, bacteriochlorophylls, carotenoids, phycobilins) were calculated on the DFT level and a good agreement with experimental data was achieved. An expected spectral-lines dependence on molecular structures was obtained. The relationship of some substituents, the length of unsaturated chains of chromofor and some modification of structure was searched.
