Molecular mechanisms of apoptosis induced by photodynamic activation in cancer cells
Moserová, Irena ; Králová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Kuželová, Kateřina (referee) ; Kovář, Jan (referee)
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment modality for cancer. It combines selective accumulation of chemical compounds, called photosensitizers (PS), with light to irreversibly damage cancer cells via oxidative stress. The main goal of this thesis was to study photosensitizers represented by a unique group of newly synthesized porphyrin derivatives with glycol chain substitution. Glycol-functionalized porphyrins containing one to four low molecular weight glycol chains that are linked via ether bonds to the meta-phenyl positions of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin (mTPP(EG)1-4) were compared with fluorinated (pTPPF(EG)4) and nonfluorinated (TPP(EG)4) derivatives having glycol chains in para-phenyl positions. The cellular uptake and photodynamic activity was significantly dependent on terminal groups of the glycol substituent. Hydroxy glycol porphyrins, in contrast with methoxy glycol porphyrins, exhibited efficient intracellular transport and high induction of apoptosis in tumor cell lines in vitro. After initial testing effective prototype hydroxy ethylene glycol derivatives were selected and analyzed in detail. Para derivatives pTPP(EG)4 and pTPPF(EG)4 accumulated mainly in lysosomes whereas meta derivatives mTPP(EG)1-4 in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Position of ethylene glycol chain on the...

Secretory symptoms of the anogenital section in female De Brazza's monkey (\kur{Cercopithecus neglectus})
VOLÁK, Daniel
The thesis is focused on the unprecedented phenomenon namelysecretory activity in female De Brazza´s monkey (Cercopithecus neglectus). The work gives a comprehensive overview of the life of monkeys. There is also a comparison with other related species of monkeys that live in similar or even identical conditions. It analyzes the olfactory and visual communication, for which it may have color and density of the discharge in the anogenital section key role. It compares discolouring outlet discharge of individual female in the experimental part.

ACQUISITIONS & MERGERS in Strategic Management
Mackenzie, Iveta ; Vacík, Emil (advisor) ; Fotr, Jiří (referee) ; Jáč, Ivan (referee)
Acquisitions & Mergers, a tool of strategic management, that is the basis of my research. The first question that my research addresses is the acquisition activity in the European Union. The acquisition activity is shown at two levels. In the basic level the numbers of transactions in each country were compared according to freely selected criteria. In the next level, the research deals with the existence of a relationship between the acquisition activity and macroeconomic indicators. The research study presents in detail three new economic indicators for comparison of acquisition activity: M-total, M-score, M-index. The second question that my research addresses is the percentage of successful and unsuccessful deals in the Czech Republic. My research evaluating acquisitions & mergers is based on the financial results. Financial results are looked at from three aspects according to how they may benefit specific interest groups: owners, creditors, employees. The next issue is a verdict on which firms, in terms of financial results in the pre-transaction period, have potential for successful development in the post-transaction period, and which seem to have no potential. The research study presents in detail the new method for acquisitions & mergers evaluating: Acquisition Value Analysis.

Czech and European Fisheries law
Šulcová, Lenka ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Drobník, Jaroslav (referee)
115 CZECH AND EUROPEAN FISHERIES LAW SUMMARY Fishery cannot be comprenended as only in inland waters because marine fishery presents expressively overbearing part of this human activity. In this work the marine fishery is less substantial because in the Czech Republic as in mediterranean state is operated only inland fishery. Fishery means refinement, protection and fishing in fishpond management or by the performance of the fishing right. The fishery in the Czech Republic is classified into production fishery and farming on the fishing grounds. System of public law and private law is blended together in the sphere of fishery and that is why lots of legal regulations associate with fishery. We must not forget the directives and regulations of the European community. The fishing law in the Czech Republic is regulated on a large scale in the Fishery Act and in the public notice and everything is practically prescribed, including size limits, bag limits, periods of protection for individual species, number of rods, hooks, using of flies, shortly everything. In the Czech Republic, all the rivers belong to the state. If you like to manage on a fishing ground, you will have to win the selection procedure. You can obtain the authorisation for performance of fishing right which is valid for 10 years. But in...

Povrchová aktivita osmi běžných druhů chvostoskoků ve smrkových lesích a na pasekách po kůrovcové kalamitě v Národním parku Šumava, Česká republika
Brůhová, Jindřiška ; Rusek, Josef
Surface activity of eight common epigeic species of Collembola were studied in spruce forests, dead spruce forests and clearings in the Šumava National Park, South Bohemia, Czech Republic: .i.Lepidocyrtus lignorum, Leidocyrus cyaneus, Pogonognathellus longicornis, Tomocerus minutus, Tetracanthella stachi, Allacma fusca, Entomobrya nivalis, Dicyrtomina minuta./i.. Five pitfall traps were exposed at each of the 9 sites in the summer and autumn periods to study the impact of spruce forest die-off after bark beetle attack (dead forests) and on clearings. Material comprising 79435 specimens was evaluated in this study using the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test for comparing Collembola activity between the sites and seasons. Complete linkage (Euclidean distances) cluster analysis was used for comparing the collembolan activity in all nine sites.

Has UV radiation an impact on tadpoles' movement activity?
KLAPKA, Vladimír
The increasing level of the UV-B irradiation due to depleting of the ozone layer is considered to be one of the causes of global amphibian declines. The UV-B radiation causes damage to the DNA in the nuclei of the skin cells and their eventual death. In many amphibian species there was found a negative influence of the UV-B radiation on the hatching success of tadpoles and their subsequent viability. It has been assumed that tadpoles are able to actively avoid places with the higher exposure of the UV-B radiation thanks to their locomotion. In this experiment tadpoles could have chosen between a zone with the UV radiation (UV-B and UV-A) and without the UV radiation. The tadpoles have not been exposed to the UV radiation before the measurement started. The location of the tadpoles during the measurement was recorded by CCD camera. A computer program EthoVision then evaluated the time that these tadpoles spent in each of the zones and the total path length these tadpoles has swum in the zones. The measurements were performed for two groups of tadpoles differing in age to determine whether the level of development may affect the tadpoles' preference to the UV radiation. The tadpoles in both groups spent more time in the zone without the UV radiation. The tadpoles in the more advanced development phase have spent 7 times more time in average in the zone without the UV radiation than in the zone with it. The tadpoles from the second group have spent in average 2.5 times more time in the zone without the UV radiation than in the zone with the UV radiation. The total swimming path length of advanced tadpoles was almost 2.5 times longer in the zone without the UV radiation than in the zone with the UV radiation. Conversely, the total path length of younger tadpoles did not significantly differ between the zones. The total time spent in the zones with / without the UV radiation did not differ between the groups of tadpoles. Also the total path length did not differ between the groups in the zone with the UV-B radiation. However, the total path length of tadpoles had differed between groups in the zone without the UV radiation.

A comparison of selected ethological aspects of chosen tortoise species
BLAŽEK, David
In this thesis we studied individuals of 4 species of tortoises, often bred in captivity genus Testudo species T. hermanni, T. graeca, T. horsfieldi and T. marginata, in possession of the ZOO Hluboká nad Vltavou. We studied and analyzed their morphological parameters, size measurements, their weight and biometrical indexes, wheather they follow described sexual dimorphism as it was found out in non-captive populations. We also studied and analyzed their food preferences to find out differences between sexes and between keeping individual animal versus a group, by giving them a choice between 4 types of food (the red cabbage, leaves of dandelion and clover, and carrot roots). Sexual dimorphism displayed by different body proportions was most apparent in Testudo hermanni. In specimen from the ZOO of Testudo horsfieldi a T. graeca was sexual dimorphism less prominent. Measured Testudo females from the ZOO were in lowest, approximate and highest values bigger and heavier than males of the same species, which mirrors data from other studies of non-captive populations. Males are quicker to get to and quicker to start eating food than females. Males preffered red cabbage and carrot while the females clover and dandelion. The amplitude of preference change between individual and group experiment was not correlated by individual´s sex, species or size. We found out no apparent hierarchical enforcement from the side of faster or bigger specimen in the feeding process.

Separation and determination of bioactive compounds in food
Dvořáčková, Eva
Herbs are widely known for their numerous applications in the food industry; however, there is increasing interest in their pharmaceutical properties. In recent years, major research has been focused on the biologically active derivatives of medicinal plants, mainly because of their potential anti-tumor activity and protective effects with respect to the cardiovascular system. This thesis summarizes the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds mainly responsible for such positive health impacts, the methods of antioxidant capacity determination, and the protective health effects of medicinal herbs. The experimental part is dedicated to extraction methods and the determination of phenolic compounds from herbs, as well as the possibility of applying herbal infusions into raw goat whey in order to extend its shelf-life.
