Social Worker as a Case Manager when working with Victims of Crime

The diploma thesis deals with a social worker as a case manager when working with victims of crime. The aim of the thesis was to analyze how social workers in the South Bohemian region perceive their role when working with victims of crime. Two research questions were established focusing on the motivation and limitations of case managers in their work. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the current state of the issue, the social worker, the victim of crime, and on management and case management. The empirical part includes a qualitative research strategy, where IPA analysis was conducted. A semi-structured interview technique with seventeen questions was used to gather data. Twenty-eight informants were approached in the South Bohemian region, forming a research sample of six informants. Through the analysis and interpretation of the obtained data, it was found out what roles social workers perceive as case managers, what motivates them, and what limitations they face in their work. The analysis of conducted interviews suggests that social workers are aware of the various roles in their work, but there is consensus that they adapt to the individual needs of the client. The results of this thesis can be used for the needs of social workers, social work students. The anticipated benefit for practice is awareness of the role of a social worker as a case manager and for supervision with these workers.
Provision of Social Housing and Accompanying Services for Families with Children in the South Bohemian Region

The thesis deals with the provision of social housing and accompanying services for families with children in the South Bohemian region where the main objective is to find out how the South Bohemian region implements family policy in the field of social housing for families with children and how social workers of municipalities with extended competence identify sources of support and barriers in this context. In order to achieve the objective a qualitative research strategy was implemented in the practical part of this thesis. The research sample consisted of 8 social workers with the condition of providing social housing in the area. The obtained data were evaluated using the grounded theory method. From the results it was found that social housing is provided with slight differences depending on the specific region and the available resources for solving the housing situation. Self-motivation and attituted of families with children is key in providing support as well as combating the general lack of social housing. The importance of this work also lies in understanding the personal perspective of social workers on the support provided and the sources of support and barriers identified by them in the context of social housing. The results of this thesis can inspire other social workers working in the given topic, non-governmental non-profit organizations, public institutions or the results can also be benefical and educational material for the general public.
Dilemmas of social workers working with people in material distress

The chosen topic of this thesis is "dilemmas of social workers in working with people in material need." The thesis is divided into several chapters that primarily focus on an introduction to the issues of social policy and social work; further presentation of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic and the system of assistance benefits in material need; introduction to ethical issues and presentation of basic ethical theories. Last but not least, it also focuses on the dilemmas that a social worker may encounter when working with a client in material need and the application of ethical theories to solve them. The goal of the thesis is to find out what dilemmas social workers may face when working with people in material need, how they react to them and solve them.
Dilemmas of social workers in the Department of Assistance in Material Need

The thesis deals with dilemmas in the department of material assistance. The aim was to find out what dilemmas social workers in the material need department encounter in relation to their profession and institution, in relation to the client, in relation to society and in relation to their own family. Firstly, attention is paid to material need, specifically to the Department of Assistance in Material Need and the benefits paid by this department. A possible future scenario of how the situation in this department will develop is also outlined. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on the social worker and the client in material distress. The second chapter of the thesis deals with dilemmas of social workers, points out the difference between an ethical dilemma and an ethical problem, deals with the origin of dilemmas, their distinction and approaches to dilemmas. Attention is focused on the process of resolving ethical dilemmas. The third chapter is devoted to self-reflection and supervision as they can be tremendous aids in preventing the occurrence of ethical dilemmas. The fourth chapter provides an insight into the dilemmas encountered by the social workers in the welfare department with whom a semi-structured interview was conducted. Chapter five discusses these dilemmas from the perspective of ethical theories - deontology and utilitarianism. It seeks to find different perspectives on how the dilemmas can be resolved.
Issues of confidentiality and reporting obligations in low-threshold facilities for children and youth

The thesis focuses on the conflict between the duty to report and the duty of confidentiality in a low-threshold facility for children and youth. The first part of the thesis characterizes the low-threshold facility for children and youth. This is followed by a definition of the legislative framework of the reporting obligations and the duty of confidentiality. The thesis briefly introduces the social and legal protection of children and the activities of the OSPOD. Then the possibilities of cooperation and NZDM with OSPOD and the Police of the Czech Republic and the most common reasons that prevent this cooperation. The last part of the thesis focuses on ethics and ethical dilemmas in social work with regard to professional ethics of social workers and ethical dilemmas occurring in the work in NZDM. The thesis offers possible solutions to ethical dilemmas and recommendations on how to to prevent them. The thesis combines a theoretical approach with a research part. The qualitative research is conducted through semi- structured interviews with social workers in low-threshold facility for children and youth.
The process and role of the social worker in patients in the terminal stage of illness

The thesis deals with the process and role of the social worker regarding patients in the terminal stage of illness. The first chapter of the thesis focuses on the description of palliative and hospice care, their aims, and types. The following chapter describes the terminal stage, explaining what the terminal stage is, what phases of coping with dying a person goes through at the end of life, what rights the dying person has and what his/her needs are. It also focuses on dying, death and grieving itself. The third part describes the work of the multidisciplinary team and its members. The role of the social worker is depicted in the last chapter, where it is explained what activities they perform and how they communicate with patients and team members.
Ethical dilemmas of social workers in elderly residential services

The thesis focuses on the issue of ethical dilemmas faced by social worker when working with seniors in residential social services, specifically in retirement homes. The thesis discusses aging, social work with seniors, and the social worker, addressing the dispute associated with the helping profession. Another part of the thesis deals with ethical dilemmas and specific problematic situations encountered by social workers during their practice in retirement homes. The problematic situations are described in the form of case studies. The pivotal chapter of the thesis explores ethics in social work, its significance, values, and the application of ethical theories in social work. At the end of the chapter, an ethical reflection on a selected ethical dilemma is conducted using Kantian ethics. The principles of Kantian ethics can be helpful in the practice of a social worker when making decisions in challenging situations.
Ethical dilemma in working with people with Asperger's syndrome

This diploma thesis deals with theme of Ethical dilemma of social workers when deciding whether to create a collaborative plan based on the wishes of an adolescent with Asperger syndrome or a parent. The goal was to find out how social workers decide to interview, what factors influence their decisions. The topic is discussed both in the field of developmental psychology and theoretical knowledge about Asperger's syndrome, but this work also mentions theoretical knowledge of ethics in the field of decision-making. Qualitative research was focused not only on interviews with five social workers, but also on the view of adolescents with Asperger's syndrome and their parents on the given issue. In the research results, I emphasize the importance of elaborated internal regulations, which describe the procedure of working with the client, and which can help to solve the ethical dilemma.
The social support of patients treatment at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology

Treating children with a malignant disease represents a very difficult situation for the patients and their families. The purpose of the thesis is to map social work, state help and support from non-profit organizations to families of children with cancer. Part of the work is a research investigation. The research was divided into three categories. The survey for families of children treated at the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic at the University Hospital Motol was made in the first part. The second part consists of an interview with a healthcare social worker. The third part is an analysis of the documentation of selected oncological patients. The main finding is - social work practice is sufficient. There is a variety of state social support, but it is very slow. Families are well informed about the possibilities of state social support. Families used financial support from the Good Angel Foundation and material support from other non-profit organizations. The respondents expressed interest in the information paper, the proposal of which is part of the thesis. The position of social workers at the Labor Office - Material Emergency Department

The thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical part which focuses on the Job Centre, the definition of basic concepts, services and activities of the Job Centre and its structure, material need benefits and the social workers concentrating on the material need agenda. The second part deals with the research and describes the research strategy and other relevant aspects of the research. The crucial point of the thesis is to describe the position of the social worker in the Department of Material Needs when working with clients. The main objective is to describe 'What is the experience of social workers with their position in the Department of Material Need when working with clients?'. The thesis takes into account the work of a social worker in the Department of Material Needs and what they have to deal with in the position. The thesis also focuses on how the social worker carries out the material hardship benefits agenda. As for the research method, we used qualitative research with the IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) method, a qualitative approach and Exploratory Coding. In the empirical part of the thesis, the individual sub-research questions are answered, and the main research question is also answered based on the results.
