Jeffrey Hatcher: Possibilities of Dramatization and Adaptation
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
Despite the fame Ohio native Jeffrey Hatcher has gained on the American continent, he is fairly unknown to the Czech audience. Out of his extensive work only three texts found their way to the Czech domestic stages. Including: A Picasso, Compleat Female Stage Beauty and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. It can be noted that all the works mentioned above are adaptations in a certain sense of the word. However, it is necessary to admit that the dramas A Picasso and Compleat Female Stage Beauty are only loosely inspired by historical events that served the author's own artistic purposes. Nevertheless, Hatcher's Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde can be considered a real adaptation. The fact that this text is connected to the work of another author, in this case a novella by Robert Louis Stevenson, is not unusual within the work of the discussed playwright. Adaptations (or dramatizations) play a fundamental role in it. For this reason, in my diploma thesis I intend to reflect on the way in which the playwright approaches the text of the original and how he transforms it. I plan to focus more closely on the following texts: A Confederacy of Dunces (based on a novel of a same name by John Kennedy Toole), Compleat Female Stage Beauty (the author's own text which he adapted for a movie screen), Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (based on the...

Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Rakušanová, Marie (advisor) ; Štefková, Zuzana (referee)
1 ABSTRACT (EN) This bachelor thesis focuses on the part of Jakub Schikaneder's œuvre presenting female solitude. Schikaneder depicted solitary women across his artistic creations, both as a painter of social topics and as a painter of symbolist pictures. The goal of this thesis is to place the subject in an art-historical context, describe the artistic means by which Schikaneder expresses the psychological states of the depicted. Special attention is paid to the framing of the depicted in different types of spaces and covering this part of Schikaneder's work from a position of feminist criticism. KEY WORDS Jakub Schikaneder, turn of the twentieth century, woman, solitude, feminist criticism, gender interpretation of image space
Physical-geographical aspects of vegetation succession and soil development with focus on abandoned mining sites
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor) ; Zádorová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis focuses on the background research of pedogenesis and vegetation succession within a primary succession. An attention is paid to abandoned mining sites. The role of a rock sub-soil is emphasized. The found facts was examined on samples, where the dependency of pH and amount of organic carbon in soil on substrate and type of vegetation was examined. Statistically significant differences in soil and vegetation development on different substrates were not found, however there was observed the influence of carbonate substrate from neighborhood. This substrate allowed in a sililic quarry a formation of nutrient rich vegetation similar to that described in limestone quarries. Humidity of the soil and groundwater table depth were suggested as more determining in vegetation succesion, especially in life forms domination. Primary successsion was influenced by neighborhood of the area in many aspects.
Soil characteristics in relation to relief and land use around Sfinta Elena village in Banat, Romania
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šefrna, Luděk (referee)
The thesis characterizes soils of the karst platform around Sf. Elena village established by Czech colonists in Romanian Banat. The emphasis is given to the relationships among soil chemical properties and different land use and relief. In the area, occurrence and distribution of soil types was mapped. The relief was found out to be the dominant factor determining soil chemical properties. It affects also the vegetation and land use. Among the different land use types the statistically significant difference was found mainly in organic carbon content, which is the main determinant of sorption capacity. Less favourable properties were found on arable land, where the low nutrient content was observed, too. It gives evidence of a depletion of the soil by farming.
Elisabeth: a comparison of two stagings of one musical
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Fridrichovský, Patrik (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses primarily on the Viennese musical Elisabeth, which the creative duo Michael Kunze & Sylvester Levay based on the life story of the Austrian Empress Sisi. The text itself deals with the recording of a renewed production from The Theater an der Wien (premiered in October 2003, recording made in October 2005) which is compared to the Czech premiere in The J. K. Tyl Theatre (premiered in November 2019). The Austrian staging, which was directed by Harry Kupfer, is considered a conventional adaptation of the piece and is put in contrast with the Czech production done by Lumir Olšovký which was created under free licence and its creative team chose its own innovative path. The text of the thesis searches for and names fundamental changes which arose between the two productions premiered 16 years apart. The following aspects are elaborated on in detail: the creative teams of the theaters, directing, costumes, scenography, choreography, actors and main characters. These aspects of the Austrian and Czech production are then compared to each other. In the case of the Czech production, the comparison is partly based on the opinions of domestic cultural reviewers. In the following chapter, three specific scenes, which (in the opinion of the author) have undergone the most notable...
