LORD IS A KING. Old Testament metaphor from the perspective of cognitive linguistics: Cognitive-linguistic and translatological interpretation.
Procházková, Ivana ; Prudký, Martin (advisor) ; Sláma, Petr (referee) ; Karlík, Petr (referee)
This disertation uses methods of culturally-oriented and cognitive linguistics to describe the meaning of the Old Testament metaphor "God-King". The disertation follows up on the work of G. Lakoff, J. Johnson, M. Turner, G. Fauconnier, as well as the work of Czech cognitive linguistics (in particular, I. Vaňková). The author applies the theory of conceptual metaphor, the theory of mental spaces, the theory of conceptual integration, and some theories of cognitive semantics (for example, the theory of stereotype/prototype), to Old Testament texts. The author describes the meaning of the metaphors God, the shepherd, God, the warior, God, the lion, and God, the eagle in the Psalms as being partial expositions of the King metaphor. The metaphorical meaning is described by means of generic narrative structures abbreviated by the letters GPS in Czech) These are abstract narrative structures, which the author has isolated in the texts. They are source domains (shepherding, war, lion and eagle), and they repeatedly participate in the structuralization or metaphorical formulations. The methods of culturally-oriented and cognitive linguistics are also used to analyze and interpret Psalm 44, Psalm 76 and Lamentations 3:1-24. In the last section of the disertation, functionally conceived translations follow up...
Concept building process in the environment of Grid paper
Procházková, Ivana ; Jirotková, Darina (advisor) ; Hejný, Milan (referee)
My diploma work focuses on geometrical environments geoboard, dotted paper, grid paper and triangular paper together. At first, I try to apply this experiment on myself, thus I discover the Pick's formula for a triangular paper. Consequently I apply different levels of a cognitive process on my procedure. By doing this I am trying to go through the same process the children experience during the experiments. My next part deals with a problem of how such aspects could be used in order to get the expected outputs from "RVP" and how these aspects are understood in textbooks. The last part contains the actual experiments with children in the geometrical backgrounds described above.

The thesis deals with the global phenomenon of free education as a radical alternative to the present mainstream educational system. The author's goal is to describe phenomenon of free education and to find out to what extent this Sudbury educational model is viable, realizable and requested in other environment (incl. CR) and what results it brings, on the base of a content analysis of domestic, but particularly foreign sources and by means of an analysis of media reports and questioning from the background of the American Sudbury Valley School. The thesis is opened by an explanation of the necessity to change the educational paradigm to make it reflect the reality of the 21st century, and by mutual specification of the terms traditional and free education. Further chapters introduce the concept of free education; a substantial part of the thesis then provides a detailed insight into the operation and normal life of the Sudbury Valley School, including the results of its graduates in further education and in practical life. In the last chapter the author summarizes the research results and concludes that free education in democratic schools is, despite criticism and scepticism of a part of the public, an interesting, feasible and viable (not in the CR yet because of legislation barriers) alternative to the...
