Problems with the administrative language from the perspective of inquirers of language consulting center

The diploma thesis is devoted to the analysis of inquiries sent to the language consulting centre of the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in which inquirers formulate the problems that arise during creation of administrative style texts. The primary source is the internal database of the language consulting centre from which the inquiries sent via e-mail in 2010 were chosen. Analysis seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the given issue and it is concentrated into three main points, namely classification of inquiries by language levels, classification of inquiries by function of the text and analysis of attitudes of inquirers. The aim of the thesis is to find out what the most frequent problems of the administrative style texts solved by interviewers are, what the nature of these problems is and whether attitudes of inquirers show any trends.

This thesis concerns the phenomenon of matcha in Japan over time. It deals with its history, traditionally closely connected to the tea ceremony, and then focuses on the new role of matcha in contemporary Japan, in contrast to the tradition. The thesis outlines the changing view of this tea, depending on the time and trends in Japan.
Computer Processing of Language Data: New Challenges in Language Cultivation

This article deals with computer processing of language data at the Prague language consulting centre. In the period from 1998 to 2010 there were 71,500 queries sent by electronic mail to the language consulting centre of the Institute of the Czech Language. These queries have become the basis for the Internet Language Reference Book. Between 2009 and 2010, the reference book website registered 10 million visits from 500 thousand unique visitors. This large volume of requests for information regarding the Czech language – asked via e-mail, web interface or telephone – demonstrates a lively public interest in the Czech language, and it has become an important source of data regarding the current usage of the language. What are the next steps in and aims of language consulting? What is the status of internet sources vis-a-vis linguistic codification of Czech? Can these tools contribute to bridging the gap between the norm and codification?
