New forms of sculpture in contemporary art
Macháčková, Anežka ; Pfeiffer, Jan (advisor) ; Daniel, Ladislav (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with new forms of sculpture in contemporary art. The theoretical part describes the development of sculpture and its changes in the course of time with a special emphasis on current Czech authors and their work. It also comments on materials and themes which most frequently occur and are used in sculpture. Last but not least, his part also deals with a public space and placing sculptures in here. The practical part presents a series of author's sculptural works which focus on various materials possibly usable in Art classes at the first school. Properties, availability and durability of the materials are examined and evaluated. In the didactic part, the author presents work of 5th year pupils who were inspired by creations of Anna Hulačová, a Czech sculptor. In the end, sculpture exhibitions visited by the author are presented. KEYWORDS Anna Hulačová, material, sculpture, theme, public space
A contrastive study of hyperbole in Czech and English. A corpus-based study
Macháčková, Anežka ; Klégr, Aleš (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
The aim of this study is to compare and contrast the use of hyperbole or exaggeration in spoken Czech and English language. The research is based on comparative approach to two samples accounting for 100 hyperbolic instances in Czech and 100 instances of hyperbole in English. The Czech sample has been randomly excerpted from the oral part of the Czech National Corpus ORAL2008, whereas the English sample has been randomly excerpted from the "spoken context-govern" and "spoken demographic" sections of The British National Corpus. The two samples are subject to analysis. Firstly, the formal realization of hyperbole is examined. Secondly, the occurrences are classified semantically (quantitative versus qualitative hyperbole) and, thirdly, the lexico-semantics is examined (hyperbolic source domains). By this, the present study tests the hypothesis of universal hyperbolic source domains by examining the situation in Czech and English. Finally, the occurrence of conventionalized instances of hyperbole as opposed to creative instances of hyperbolic nonce-usages is examined. Last but not least, it is the aim of this study to provide the overall frequency figures of hyperbole in both languages.
English translation equivalents of "určitě" and "jistě": a contrastive study
Macháčková, Anežka ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee) ; Dušková, Libuše (advisor)
English adverbs as translation counterparts of the Czech adverbs určitě and jistě are of lower freguency. Jistě is translated as an adverb in 77.5% of all cases and určitě in 51% of all cases. It must be noted, with respect to this figure, that the percentage is gained only from the translated English counterparts, which decreases the number of the analyzed examples from 60 to 57 in the case of jistě and from 48 to 41 in the case of určitě. Consequently, 5% of all examples of jistě and 15% of určitě are not translated at all. However, there is a phenomenon to compensate for this left-out translation in the case of určitě by means completely different from what was the focus of this analysis. This compensation could be observed in 43% of not translated examples of určitě. The second most frequent means of translating určitě and jistě is the category Verb involved. This category, however, is strongly conditioned by the grammatical function of the English translation counterpart. Only the grammatical function of disjunct can be realized by the category Verb involved. This can be observed in 12% of all translated examples of jistě and in 37% of určitě. However, this does not mean that all disjuncts must be translated by the category Verb involved. The most frequent means of translation within the disjunct...
